Went to Dr for blood work/ high cholesterol. Along with high cholesterol he said my test level was low (I'm 55). He gave a prescription- not covered by insurance- price was $1200.00 per month! He also said hgh was available but expensive.
I spoke to a few people who said both are available online much cheaper but it looks like a real crapshoot. How do you know what your getting if it's legit. I was told if it's pill form it's no good, has go be injected.
Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this? Or is it all a scam

That's a complete rip-off. I receive medically supervised Testosterone @ 200mg per week and I pay on average about $300.00 per month, which includes my DHEA, estrogen blockers and some other goodies. The most expensive thing is the annual physical and blood panel, which is a vital component and billed separately. You can buy the stuff online for way cheaper than what I pay, and I've considered doing that, but I need the medical supervision, which I'm not willing to trade off.

See about finding an "aging" clinic. This is what these docs specialize in.

Look into Clomid. It may be that you just need something to jump start your body's own T production.

What did the doctor give you a script for?
Inhectable? Topical solutions like Axiron or Androgel are available as well.

Don't fall for the online ads for various pills. They will not work.

As TreyA said, off label uses of a drug like Clomid could help too. Menotropins as well. Feel free to ask any questions

Did you go to an endocrinologist ?

Script was for injectable. I heard anything other than injectable is fake. Saw mostly pill form online as well as gels and sprays for hgh.

There are definitely prescription products, non-injectable, that are far from fake. Not saying not to go the injectable route, but you have a few options.

Axiron is an Eli Lilly product which you simply use similar to an under arm deodorant after showering in the AM.

AndroGel is made by AbbVie and is also a topical solution, but you apply it more to your shoulders & upper arms. So you have to be careful not to transfer that to wife or kids.

Injectables work well too of course.

I guess it just depends what your insurance might work with, what you are comfortable with, what your doc might actually prescribe and what the cost factors are.

What does Testosterone do for you? What's the outcome of treatment? Just curious...

About 4 years ago my primary physician put me on Androgel . Took it for a year and my endocrinologist for thyroid told me to get off of it because of studies that showed related heart problems with those who took it.

High sugar levels convert the testosterone precursor to estrogen..just to be aware if your fasting blood sugar is over 95 or A1C is over 5.6

My insurance (BCBS) said no to Androgel but yes to the generic made by Perrigo. 50 mgs per day applied to shoulders, arms and abdomen. $10.00 per month. I understand that among other things having a normal testosterone level helps the body process protein. Saw no changes in energy levels.

Way too much, I dont know about the other meds, but test is cheap. I know guys that were using while bodybuilding and now have no production and get it legally from an MD, with syringes and all, $1200 for 6 months.

Stay away from synthetic testosterone. The short term gains will not outweigh long term effects. My cousin went down this road because he had issues with impotence. Initially he raved about the effects of testosterone but in time he noticed that he needed more and more and the effects were shorter and shorter. Perhaps it's easy for me to criticize since I have no issues in this area. Just be careful and make sure to do your homework.

Are you guys turning into women or something? I don't understand why you need testosterone shots just because your body is a little low.

About 5 years back, after a checkup w/various lab tests, the doctor told me I had low testosterone (about the level of a 90 year old) and prescribed some variant of a supplement to restore my T levels. Given that I was still basically a walking hard-on that thought about sex at least 100 times a day, plus I'd read up on the side-effects and potential negatives, and I was skeptical to say the least. So I didn't bother to fill the prescription.

Went back for a follow-up exam three months later, told the doc I didn't do the T treatments. The doc did more lab-work and wound up telling me my T levels were perfectly normal.

Moral of the story is get a second opinion before turning your testes into olive pits.

Exercise if you can - Vitamin D, Zinc - eat nuts Almonds. Stay away from table salt - has glass in it scars your arteries - go with Sea Salt or Himalayian Pink Salt.

Start working your ass off at the gym every day and your T levels will likely rise naturally and most of those issues will go away anyway. There are men that ligitimately need hormone replacement therapy, odds are you just need to work out, eat better, take your wife to a hotel for the weekend and get yourself out of a rut. I was there 4 years and 35 lbs ago too.

Its amazing how everthing in the world changes when you look good running with your shirt off.

T-supplement is also linked to higher risk for prostate cancer. Don't take it unless you absolutely need it. It is not a treatment for ED but may increase your sex drive if that's a problem. Years ago, I did the topical treatments for just a few months, Axiron and Androgel. My T level is normal now without a supplement.

I have been on T shots for about seven years now. Started wondering when no matter what I did exercise or diet wise I was constantly gaining ten or so pounds a year and had no energy. I went over 310 pounds while eating very little, with a lot of the weight not so much in my belly but higher up. So high it basically compressed my lungs whenever I laid down. My wife was worried I was going to die in my sleep. Desperate, frustrated and confused, I did some research, came up with low T and had my doc test me. My numbers were really low so he put me on T patches. Within six months I was down to 240, my cholesterol numbers were way down, and I have maintained it.
Since then I have switched over to the injections, getting 250 mg every two weeks. Cost for me (with insurance help, not sure how much) is about $20 for 2 months supply. One of the biggest difference between patches and injections, patches keep you on a steady level, with injections your levels will be up right after your shot then slowly descend until the next one. On the other hand, with injections you don't have to worry about getting residue on other people or replacing patches after swimming and such.
