I just bought a set of PING G irons. My golf instructor threw in free lessons if I bought the set. However, I am not sure if I want a Ping G driver. If you took away fitting, which driver is the best and why? Please don't tell me you have to try it out argument and every person is different argument. I get it. (The Ping may be the best for Tom but Taylormade may be the best for Dick, etc.)

I play ping g irons but have a titlest 913 driver. I just tried the taykor made m2. It is worlds better than anything i tried.

Titleist 915 and ping g30 were by far the two best drivers for 2015.
Obviously it varies per person but generally those drivers had best reviews and sold the best.

Taylormade laid a big egg in 2015. Haven't tried their 2016 driver yet.

The Ping driver got Gold star in The Golf Digest equipment review. It is a good driver, may or may not be the best driver for you.

The thing I like about titleist and ping is they don't come out with a new driver every year like taylormade abd callaway do, which try and change it up each year just to sell more clubs.

Titleist and ping are best quality of drivers.

As for irons, I'm a mizuno guy. Like the fact they give you a ton of shaft options for irons without charging if you go away from standard.

Grab 3 or 4 clubs. One by one, hammer throw them as far as you can. Whichever one you can throw the furthest... Go with that one.

Buy the driver that fits your game. Try them all. Forger what name is on it. The one you hit straight and long is the one you should. There is no such thing as "the best driver" or any club for that matter.

Just to add i agree re taylor made and calloway. But i am dead serious about the m2.

Not exactly what you're asking but I have the older Ping G5. I tested it along with 4 other models. It was by far the best for me. Still use it.

This. Test them all. You size, swing plain, club speed....all are different from the next guy. Don't be talked into a club from a pro and especially from people on here. They have no clue what suits your needs

In all fairness, it sounds like he got the ping gs as game improvement clubs. At that point it doesnt matter as much when it comes to irons. It will take a while t get good enough with drivers to be fitted.

Best part for my ego was the pro had me start out with a regular flex graphite shaft (because of my age). After seeing me swing and swing speed he had me test with a stiffer flex. Said he was surprised I still carried as much speed thru the swing. I went from a 7 to an 8 hat size lol.

Fitting a driver is the same as all other clubs. However many brands don't have a driver that fits their swing. Also people tend to swing their driver different from their irons. Golfers need to read Ben Hogan's Five Fundamentals of Golf. A golf swing shouldn't change from club to club. But human nature is what it is. So fit the drivers swing to the club. Stop looking at the brand.

Appreciate the input. I got fitted for the ping G irons and they should be coming next week. I'm relatively new to the game and been seriously playing for a little over a year now. I have been using my uncle's callaway big bertha set which was from 1993. I still have not purchased a driver yet, but the fitting process has been very difficult for the driver. I am having a hard time figuring out if it was the club or the swing. I am leaning toward the Ping G, but am also considering the Taylormade m1, m2, Titleist 915D2 and Callaway XR. My shots are all over the place with the new (and even my old) Big Bertha. So far, I can't really see the difference between the others.

EDIT: BTW, I did not hesitate to get a Rutgers Scarlet Knights bag for my new clubs!

There are others like White Bus who can speak to this better than I but if you're all over the place it likely isn't the make of the driver.

Well, a little more all over the place with the Big Bertha clubs and a little less with the Ping, Taylor Made, Callaway XR and the Titleist.

In my case I had more control with a different flex shaft. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe too much whip could cause you to scatter the ball.

I tried a friend's Taylor Mini Driver last year. Decent option if you're spraying the ball with your driver. You'll lose some distance, but easier club head to control.
Most times it's when you "overswing". Any club I've tried out, I've done fairly well with, once you BUY it and start trying to mash the ball, that is when the trouble starts.
Other thought is look for Demo days at golf courses, driving ranges. It'll allow you to try some other clubs (though usually one manufacturer at each day), but always nice to test drive.
I, personally, have a Cleveland driver, but my fairway woods are Callaway. It is really an individual swing thing.

Another thing beginners should consider is leaving the driver in the bag and teeing off with th 3W

Depending on your finances, check out the PXG driver. Just got fitted for one and it's almost embarrassing how easy it is to hit straight. Obviously, a lot of that has to do with the shaft fitting but the club head just feels amazing.

My experience with custom, high end clubs is that the gap between the best technology, properly fitted vs the mass brands, is wider than I ever expected. Longer, straighter and better feel. When you add up what the private country club, golf trips, apparel, shoes, etc cost....it's money well spent if you get four seasons out of the clubs. I play 70-100 times a year so the math doesn't work nearly as well for someone not that into the sport.

I thought Mr Screw only "won" astronomy equipment?

oh, thanks for reminding me about that. I'm going to guess that all of those telescopes and other astronomy equipment he "won" was a lie as well. Um, @RUScrew85 you've got some explaining to do! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I won't tell you that because it seems like you already know it.

I have Taylor Made R11S that I bought after spending an evening hitting everything in the store. It was the one that worked best or me.

www.golfwrx.com

You'll find more equipment info there than you'll know what to do with.

Be careful though. Searching for fixes to swing flaws in the aisles of big box golf shops is an expensive and frustrating hobby.

For whatever the reason was I couldn't hit a Driver.( When asked why I didn't use the Driver,I would answer "Dr's orders. My Psychiatrist. It drives me crazy">) I used to tee off with a 2 iron and then moved up to teeing off with a 3 wood.I could pound that 3 wood as far or better than most of the guys who were playing Drivers.240-260 all the time.I recall getting a couple of amazing hits,280-300, out of that 3 wood a few times.( I weight trained and played golf for most of my life,so the strength was there)I can still visualize those sweet spot hits 50-60 years later.

I bet he told you that he uses those telescopes to look at "stars", too.

So I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one...big hitter the Lama...long...
