Nice start for Spieth with 5 birdies in his first 7 holes. One behind the leader very early on. Dustin Johnson one behind him. The early tee times are taking advantage of what is expected to be the best weather conditions the entire week with something like 16 players -3 or better.

Tiger on the other hand is +3 after 6 holes.

Tiger looks really frustrated. Will be very surprised if he makes the cut. He has very little distance control so far this round. Looks like he can't compete in this field.

Spieth will be tough to beat. With a late tee time tomorrow it will be interesting to see how the weather affects his Friday round.

Dustin Johnson, with his super long distance, also off to a good start. Tiger is 10 strokes off the lead after only 9 holes, lol, ouch. He can still hit it long, just has no idea where it's going. This new swing coach hasn't worked out very well.

Retief Goosen off to a great start too ! Bad weather coming soon to The Open .

It's just sad to watch Tiger right now.

65 year old Tom Watson was -2 before just a double bogey put him even after 15. Spieth's Driver has failed him the last coupe of holes to put him 1 back again.

Don't think I've ever seen St Andrews as green as it is this time around. It's helping the players control where the ball ends up. Not as many crazy bounces or shots rolling off the fairways as you normally see.

Place is empty. Wonder if ticket prices are too high. Sure it will be packed on the weekend.
The entire announcing crew was commenting on some of Tigers shot. Strange stated he can't believe that Tiger is missing such "easy" shots. Dotted hinted he is about to fold the tent.

You can hear the sadness in Azinger's voice. He has always been a big Tiger fluffer.

I wish the media would get to the point where they stop focusing on Tiger since there are many good young golfers to follow now. But he had such a major impact on generating interest in the support for the masses that I think they will follow his career to the bitter end.

I have to give some credit to ESPN. And it kills me to do it but they jumped off Tiger quickly. They stopped showing every shot once he was +4.

Forecast has worsened considerably. No one is going to have fun for the next 3 days

Azinger said he looked like a hack. Pretty harsh, but true.

Agree.

Play suspended today. High winds increased as soon as second round resumed and was suspended after a half hour.
Some controversy about even trying to start.
Looks like a Monday finish is very likely now.

Letting them start at all could cost Dustin Johnson the title as he had to play 8 shots (i think) in unplayable conditions.

It seems year in and year out there's no tournament where tee times have so much to effect on the outcome. Guys who went out and played even one hole were at such as disadvantage today. I think I saw that in the short time they tried to play the field was 21 over par!

Announced Monday finish is official. Great for me as I have off but feel bad for those that have planned to attend and now can't

I think it was probably unfair and a bad decision to even start today (sat). But I think Zinger was right when he said that given the decision to start, within 30 seconds when it was deemed unplayable due to winds on 11, everyone should have stopped. On 11 green, they stopped play as the conditions immediately deteriorated, so some players out there hit no shots today and some hit 8 shots before they finally suspended play.

Its a very dynamic situation with weather with a lot of variables, but the R&A didn't handle this well.

Me too! I was going to miss today and tomorrow but not now. Looking forward to it with so many top players in it right now.

Plus I have excuse to start drinking at 7am...not that I have ever needed one [banana]

Normal general admission tickets are 80 pounds. Mondays tickets will be 10 pounds ($125 vs $16)

Well at least Tiger Woods is easy to find on a leaderboard again. Just go right to the bottom.

St. Andrews is looking defenseless right now, lol.

On another note, here's a golfing "phenom" you might want to pay attention to - you can thank me later, lol...

That is a babe. She makes me feel kinda funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym class.

Completely agree - the R&A bungled today's start badly. The other thing that really hurt them was cutting the greens so tightly, so that they were 10 or so on the stimpmeter, which is somewhat faster than the usual 8-9. This made it much more likely that stationary balls on the greens would be susceptible to the wind moving them. The other contributing factor, which was just unlucky, was that the pins were generally set in high spots on most holes, Friday morning, so as to avoid the standing water on many of the greens, due to the heavy rains - since they can't change the pins in the middle of a round, this made them more vulnerable to the heavy winds today.

Great news is that we still have 36 holes to go in this tournament. There are so many established players under par that this can be a great finish on Monday. Except that we have a 6AM start on our drive to Charleston that morning. Since I don't have satellite radio in the car I'm not sure how I'll follow the action. Maybe a wifi hotspot from the smart phone connected to an IPad ?

In addition to Dustin Johnson, keep an eye on Adam Scott and Justin Rose the rest of the way. Proven winners in Majors who can get hot at any time and take control. I'm excited about the finish in this one. I'd like to see DJ take this one home but wouldn't bet the rent on it.

Tomorrow should be gripping. Very bunched up, plenty of big names, an improbable amateur in the final group, and Spieth in the second to last group. Weather apparently is expected to be wet and windy again.

I was shocked at how poorly DJ played today. My guess is this comes down to a showdown between Spieth, Day & Oost with guys like Scott & Sergio lurking.

So psyched for tomorrow. Going to "work from home" and mostly watch the last round. I think Spieth will win - he just seems so unflappable and really makes clutch shots/putts. But Day, Oosthuizen and a host of others all obviously have a shot. One wrinkle could be that it's possible someone who starts at -5 or -6 could play most of the round in dry weather with light winds and post a 65 to get to -12 or so, while the leaders might play most of the round in rain/wind and not even shoot par. My dark horse is Schwartzel at -8, who has the game to win it. And as badly as DJ played today, he's still capable of going low, especially now that the pressure is off.

Prior to heading to work I watched Spieth's front 9. He looked very frustrated and I started wondering if the 2 Majors, pressure, travel, and the stops and starts was all getting to him. Maybe he isn't Superman. So what does he do? Birdies 10-12 and goes -4 on the back 9.

I think he'll get #3 tomorrow.

Hope so. He seems like a real nice kid.

Agree, someone could post an early score that could hold up if really severe weather comes in. Would love to see Spieth do it, but wouldn't mind D. Johnson charging back to win either. And if they don't win, how cool would it be for the amateur dunne winning? Don't see it happening, but you never know. Should be a lot of fun.

Shocked about DJ's round. If there was ever a course under those conditions, he should have shot the round of the day. Golf isn't easy but he had a course setup perfect for him.
Speith could have been in the lead by many but had an awful front nine...for him.
So excited for Monday morning golf!

Looking forward to a great finish. Pulling for Spieth, who is a class act and great representative of the USA. Hoping Dunne, the amateur who played at UAB can have a great day as well. Wondering what a win like this would do for the overall athletic program at a school like UAB? I think there will be a lot of long lunches this afternoon.

Mickelson started the day at -4 and had it to -10 after 15, just missed a birdie on 16 and then, inexplicably, lost his tee shot to the right on the tough 17th, putting the ball on a hotel room balcony. OB. Triple bogeyed and finished at -7. For a moment, thought he might be able to post -11 or -12.

Weather getting a bit dicey now. Should be a great final round...

Incredible drama, as usual, at the Open. Spieth just dropped a 30 footer for birdie to tie Zack Johnson (shot 66) at -15 and Leishman, who is also at -15, with a 20 foot birdie putt on 18 to play - this guy was -1 after two rounds. Oosty and Day at -14 with 2/3 to play. The rest are out of it. Could easily be a playoff. Unless Spieth pars 17 and birdies 18, which would be immense.

Edit: Leishman two putted on 18 and is now tied with Johnson at -15, so unless Spieth pulls out a miracle, we're going to have a playoff.

Edit: and Spieth just missed a 10-footer for par on 17 - really surprised he missed it. He's now one down with one to play. He was the last guy left with a realistic chance to get to -16 (Oosthuizen could birdie both 17 and 18, but birdieing 17 isn't realistic).
