Again WOW...Joe Paterno was just a Scumbag and for someone who always talked about how He dealt with PSU Football issues he let so many people become victims of his players/Coaches and Paterno Knew all about it...I'm sure most Penn State fans had no idea about all the rapes and abuse that Paterno KNEW Very Well.. Paterno should be in Prison if alive..He ran The University during his time and only cared about winning games! If Paterno had any integrity at all there would be so many Victims that wouldn't have their life's ruined because He could have stopped it immediately! Have to think most Penn State fans know this and are embarrassed Paterno was Coach these days.

No they aren’t. That’s the problem

Well, that was quite the eye opening read, never heard of this. I knew Paterno swept a lot of sh*t under the rug. But it seems every time there's one of these horrific episodes, it's chalked up to, "well it was just one bad apple" and then they continue on with business as usual.

This just shows the type of culture Paterno nourished and surrounded his football program with, in the name of Victory.
The worst part is the way he cultivated the Nit fan base to accept winning excuses everything and in Happy Valley that type of culture exists today, but kept out of site like the all the sex crimes committed over the yeas were hidden.by Penn State officials when Paterno ruled the roost

"Karen, this is Joe Paterno," the man said. "Are you OK?"

Seems familiar. No wonder they thought Franklin was a great fit at Penn State.

"the victim was contacted by Franklin and Galt during a medical examination four days after the rape to explain "that they cared about her because she assisted them with recruiting."

"Coach Franklin is a highly regarded coach and tremendous leader, but more importantly, he shares the same vision for Penn State Football that we, and our fans, have for the program."

It's posted. And, as you could guess there's lots of "Joe did all he could "this has nothing to do with Joe" and a few victim blamers too.

Yup.

"However, I take objection to them trying to link this to PSU or to Paterno. This has almost nothing to do with PSU and almost nothing to do with Paterno."

"Agreed. my point is that it is a hit piece on PSU (and a guy who recently died and can't defend himself). It is an article that could have been written about any school, any sport, any frat house (probably most large businesses) from that era."

"I did see that they [ESPN] at least made the assertion that Paterno was incolved in a sexual assualt/investigation in 1978. <Eye roll>"

"Click bait to tie paterno to this- wonder when espn will do the in depth Boheim (sp) scandal article - never comes to mind."

That was one hell of a story.

PSU TE/OT Irv Pankey... now there is a man of honor. There is a role model.

One of the call-outs mentioned an upcoming ESPN documentary called "Betsy and Irv". Must watch.

Provide one quote where someone blamed a victim for what happened to her.
Wait a minute. You read the article about more rapes at happy valley involving the football program, and the goofball defenders of their weirdo head coach….and your first thought/comment is to call out the Mrs.?

Mufasa indeed.

Richard, since you now also run the Penn State site, you said that people previously banned for Rules Violation would be welcomed to the site again (blanket pardon).

That has not happened.

Enjoy posting on The Knight Report where you can express your opinion and discuss multiple topics with knowledgeable Rutgers fans.

Thought the Penn State Board was to now offer a similar experience.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

How does this help us beat Penn State in 2022 and going forward. Because at the end day I am on this board because I am Rutgers football fan and all I give a sh!t about Penn State when I am on this board is how we are going to beat them at recruiting and on the field. So, please, again, all you wise people tell me how this old story helps us win games.

Nothing on this board will help us win games, so not sure what your point is. Its a major story about a team in our conference.

My point is I would like to hear a discussion regarding how we beat Penn State on the field and recruiting, I couldn't care less about a story 40 years old that will not lead to one positive play on the field against them.

Well that’s fine. You, however, are not the person who decides what gets discussed here. Plenty of other people find this to be a relevant discussion. That’s sorta how message boards work.

Feel free to start that thread and perhaps a good dialogue will ensue, though I'd give it a few months until the off season starts winding down and summer camp is underway.

to remind us all that hero worshiping a HC can go too far and our wanting to have a great program should never allow the program we love to destroy lives and have that accepted in name of victory by the fanbase.
Nor allow the head of a program hide criminal activity by it's players and or coaches because it might make the program look bad and offend boosters along with putting the program in a position that talent might refuse to play for it and cause the program to become a loser.

We (the Rutgers fanbase) never should turn into a fanbase that puts winning over people and never never defend the scum that do so.
Nor should the RU Fanbase defend any leader of a program that allows and covers up criminal activity because he/she looks at wins being more important than the people destroyed by players and coaches under him/her

"We are... Penn State!" in my view now even eclipses "Go Heels!"

Devotees of both schools--given their dark histories--turn a blind eye to reality. They celebrate and glorify their athletic traditions and accomplishments, ignoring the moral and criminal transgressions.

Whenever I hear both spirited chants, I interpret something quite different than what's intended. I hope you do too....

child rape in their showers and multi-year cover-up/ enabling of a known pedophile > systematic academic fraud.

it took THIS thing for PSU's wrong-doings to overtake UNC's? really?

I mean sure the UNC thing was REALLY REALLY REALLY bad but to my knowledge no children were ass-raped at UNC-CH.

I'm here for all victories, including morals victories.
That is the mindset of a perennial bottom feeder. It perfectly understandable that a lot of our fans have been conditioned to think that way. I can't wait for the day when we don't give a crap about these kind of stories because all we are discussing during the off season is whether we have the team to make the playoffs or will we be stuck having to play in Pasadena again for the umpteenth time.
