OT: The original monster of State College, PA

Paterno gets made out as bigger criminal than Sandusky (disliked Paterno and vice versa) and that's part of the derangement.
Such is the life as a cult leader. Ask Jim Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson, etc.

Don’t like it? Don’t be a cult leader.

I agree the Penn State scene became cultish
The "Hate Paterno" thing is also somewhat cultish
This overcooked article is rooted in that that scene
Fact is America itself became toilet for culture
Perverted stuff was/is promoted all the time - and from earlier and earlier ages.
I've never gone along with the "shock and awe" of these seedy events because they have become common
CNN just blew-up because it was full of weirdos
These are the same kind of people who want to defend warping kids while dwelling on others not in their tribe
You can get away with a lot if part of the protected crowd

People hate him because he questioned leaving football to someone like Jackie Sherrill when meanwhile he was the most immoral coach in college football history outside of Waco.

Everyone hates him no matter the school they root for or their views on anything else. On this board where no one agrees on anything 99% of the posters hate him.

I would agree, unless you are a Penn State fan, you are definitely not a Paterno fan. What kills me about this board and others is the fan denial and hypocrisy. If Schiano was 409-136-3, 24-12-1 in bowls, and had multiple national championships and undefeated seasons he would have just as strong a cult following at Rutgers. Not saying everyone would be part of the cult, but to deny a good portion of the posters on this board would defend him to their death is to deny reality. Penn State fans are not unique human beings, their cult worship of Paterno could easily be repeated at other schools including Rutgers given that amount of winning.

This board hated PSU and Paterno way before Sandusky scandal
PSU grabbing NJ players away from RU, Paterno dissing Graber etc - lots of water under the RU/PSU bridge. The Paterno story has a lot of undercurrents

Paterno used to be known as a "values" coach
I cant say that was never genuine since many players spoke highly of him.
He won and built PSU into an iconic program
Along the way it did get cultish and Paterno was addicted to it
When he was pooping his pants on the field - and coaching in a box off the field - it was obvious Paterno was staying too long.
I think when you're in your 70's/80s and a have huge college full of coeds swooning over you like you're the Dali Lama, its hard to walk away from that.
I blame Paterno for a lot but I still dont make Paterno out to be worse than Sandusky - which happens a lot.
The secular, anti-values crowd reliably hates anyone/anything that gets into "values"
They hate the churches, the Boy Scouts, the Salvation Army, America/Israel, Viktor Orbán and so on.
That crowd despised Paterno before the fall and it found a lot of glee in his fall
As much as they lament Paterno they get a kick out of relishing him as a hate object
The author of ESPN's ridiculously titled ‘Most Dangerous Player in the History of College Football’ is a political animal himself
He won award for writing about rape in the past so its a well he likes to drink from
He also won an award for lionizing an abortionist
He saw Hillary and Mr Rogers as icons and openly ridiculed religious people and Republicans
He's exactly the Disney guy you expect to still have a chubby for Joe Paterno

Call me when MSU has a statue of Nassar, UF of Hernandez, etc...

They are a Cult. No other school outside of Baylor had worse and multiple cover ups over a span of decades.

So Satan has officially started handing out ice skates, because I'm in complete agreement with you.

Hodne’s actions were horrific.

As for Paterno, while he generates a ton of comments on these boards not everyone chimes in with their opinions of him.

Is Greg as bad "as claimed" in certain place?
Greg lost a TN job because he supposedly was "in on it" as well.
Paterno gets made out as bigger criminal than Sandusky (disliked Paterno and vice versa) and that's part of the derangement.
Greg gets made guilty via the derangement as well

One reason I back off these Paterno shock and awe stories is because I know there is an element that would love to see GS be tangled-up in it

Right, you defend Joe the Enabler in an effort to make sure Greg isn't maligned
The article you posted just shows Greg was accused , without proof and politicians used the accusation against him for political purposes .
Paterno is a different story, the accusation against him were valid and first hand accounts were provided.
The cult has a similar POV when defending Joe Paterno and excusing his role in allowing a child molester to roam free in order to protect Penn State Football's image

Yes there are those who would love to make Schiano a bad guy in this matter, but that doesn't excuse you from using them to make Paterno look better than the pervert protector he was.

I couldn't disagree more. If this happened at Rutgers, Piscataway would've been burned to the ground.

I don't "defend Joe" - I just dont see him as worse than Sandusky - and the creator of Todd Hodne - who nobody here ever mentioned or even knew about before this emo bit of impression making. Yet Hodne is supposed to be the "most dangerous person that ever played college football." That's silly - the way Hodne's post playing career is included would mean he was more dangerous than Sandusky - who played at Penn St.

As I said - this kind of story is like Jaws - it takes some real people and events and injects emotions and drama for a theatrical effect. There's no way Hodne was the most dangerous player during or after his career. Paterno didn't make him evil, and he's not worse than Sandusky. He's not innocent but he's not demonic - just a flawed ego maniac who lost the plot. Even the photo from article tries to suggest Paterno made Hodne and I don't buy it - especially from a guy working for a Disney subdivision that will make PSU look like a warm-up. I can imagine all the stuff they hid

Common sense is a traditional value and rooted in honesty and self-awareness. When you see yourself honestly you can see others. People who are dishonest about themselves create false ego-preserving realms between their ears.
They can lose touch with reality but it feels like being more in touch

Currently we live in an age hostile to common sense - which has roots in tradition.
Night is night and day is day
Computer languages use binary code - Xs and 0s
Men and women are XY and XX
Yet despite common aspects of reality, people want to make their own realities - which currently happen to be as far from common sense and tradition as I've ever seen.
We have prodigiously educated people in authority who cant define what a women is despite being one.
These sorts of people rely on false authority and rationalization - they gravitate to others who do the same.
That's how hive minds arise - people with scrambled interiors need compensatory anchors outside themselves.
Currently the media is awash in narratives that are very bizarre - they are angry at people who wont just roll.
These people like to resent people, places things the hive designates as "bad."
Hating bad can make people feel good
The problem is that the bad people often hate the good people because the good people make them feel bad
Paterno used to make bad people feel bad when they thought he was good
When Paterno turned out bad the same crowd felt really good about being able to hate him
They wont let it go.
These days "sharp right turns" lead to the center even though to some it seems radical

Weak.

Kinda like blaming the Ukrainians for dying when Russia is bombing them. Paterno WAS the CEO of the snake pit that is Ped State.

Tear down that Statue.... and put up a mirror so Ped State can see the evil for themselves.

LOL!! Schiano knew.

Schiano is a cult leader. The cult is growing.

while we all like Greg for what he has done/is doing for Rutgers Football, you can rest assured that none of us, will ever pray at a shrine for him at the stadium. Ever. Schiano is not a cult leader. not even close. A photo is worth a 1000 words and this one speaks volumes. Watching people crying/praying at this shrine made me want to vomit.

With what he has accomplished to date, I 100% agree with you. However, if he wins 2 national championships, 1 Rose Bowl, numerous Orange, Fiesta, Cotton, and Sugar Bowls, there will be plenty of posters on this site that will build him every type of shrine imaginable. To deny that, is to deny the level of dedicated fandom on this board.

one thing about the NJ Media they would cover RU misdeeds in a way that starting the cult of Greg wouldn't be that easy and once the truth was known the cult of Greg would be shouted down unlike the Cult of Joe being the face of Nit Football and defenders of Joe "the Enabler" despit all the proof that proved he put the football program's image and winning over the saftey of children

Yes teir would be some scum that act like Paterno Cult members, but would be so few and instead of being the face of Rutgers football, they would be considered it's assholes.
