Couldn't resist: stopped by "Favorites" OTW by Menlo Park Mall yesterday and played a few Super combos with American Pharoah, Dortmund, Danzig Moon, and Firing Line. So, who ya got today?

don't see this as a very good betting race. The only concern is the inside post for Pharoah. I think we see basically the same top 3 as in the Derby as there is a pretty big dropoff with the other horses. Dortmund has the ability to turn the tables especially if Pharoah gets pinched early. Dortmund will be ontop with Firing Line and Pharoah running after him much like the Derby but the shorter stretch might be better to his liking.

Note that the owners of the ill-fated Barbaro who broke down at the Preakness are back at Pimlico for the first time since that horrific injury with the improving but still green Divining Rod

No one knows how each horse will react racing twice in 2 weeks...but I do like the shorter distance more so for Dortmund, as you can actually get good odds (was 8-1 early yesterday...dropped to 7-1 by the end of the Miss Preakness Stakes late yesterday afternoon but that was on light betting as the crowd yesterday was small at Pimlico...as the race riots had an effect on Friday afternoon turnout, especially on such a beautiful day. Fans showing up in much larger numbers today might feel safer so look for odds to possible change a lot today...as Firing Line is in early at 2-1 this morning while AP is in at 4-5).

Inside tracks for both should be helpful...but Dortman likes to lead (not a big fan of mud/dirt in his face).

Hoping for a good race...but Baffert's boys will be tough to beat.

Once you get past the top 3 Kentucky Derby finishers I don't see any longshot sneaking in to produce a good payout for exacta or trifecta wagering.I don't like the fact Baffert has two top horses in the race because it provides divided loyalty when many horse insiders wants American Pharoah to win for the Triple Crown hype.

Firing Line. Liked him in the KD so I'm sticking with him.

Long shot Tale of Verve's surprising 2nd place finish gave a few bettors a big pay-off, plus with Firing Line finishing 7th and Dortmond falling to just outside the money at 4th...$$ were available to a few who basically "gambled"

1. American Pharoah
Win: $3.80. Place: $3.40. Show: $2.80.

2. Tale of Verve
Place: $19.00. Show: $8.80.

3. Divining Rod
Show: $5.20.

$2 Exacta (1-5): $124.40.
$1 Trifecta (1-5-7): $492.50
$1 Superfecta (1-5-7-2): $1,906.90

Looking like a heavy favorite to win Belmont now. AP was pulling away down the stretch. First Triple Crown in how many years. Not sure how good the competition is this year. That was some rain storm there yesterday.

I know it was in the slop, but each year I marvel how no one gets near secretariats time on any of the three races.

The torrential rain had a lot to do with the outcome of the race especially for place and show.American Pharoah had one point where he looked like he was coming back to the pact at the far turn and then got a second wind and destroyed the rest of the field winning by 7 lengths.

Secretariat's heart was about 2 1/2 times bigger than average, so he could run faster as the race went on.

Dortmund is out of the Belmont. Shipped back to California for a rest. Pletcher's 3 Derby horses are likely to give it another run.
Although it never guarantees a victory, American Pharoah is the best horse in training in the US, of any age. Special horse. Hope he gets it done.

Went to Baltimore to watch the Preakness and I must admit he looked good. I will be at Belmont cheering him on in three weeks. I can only assume that some trainers are going to bring in some tough grinders who are bred for distance, with fresh legs. But that's why only the best win this race. The only move that has left me somewhat confused is why Baffert shipped the horse to Churchill Downs and not Belmont. He will ship AP to NY the Wednesday before the race.

There is no reason for him to go to Belmont any sooner. Churchill has much better backside facilities and ownership is based close by in American Pharaoh's future home of Versailles, Kentucky.

Hey WhiteBus how are you doing? It's been a while.

Do you think Baffert will allow AP to get a light workout out on Thursday before the race, or a least a gallop? My paranoia with Belmont has more to do with the track rather then the distance. Its an unbelievable deep track that eats up energy. I know track officials can dictate the depth of the track on race day, I'm going to cross my fingers and hope they pack it down a little harder.

That was the same thing Baffert did prior to Preakness (most training at Churchill.then shipped to Pimlico Wed before race).

Plus Churchill training/stables etc.. blow away old Belmont's too.

Excited for another chance. And I have loved this horse for awhile.
The track at Belmont is not nearly the same as it was 10 years ago but you are right it I s still "deep" compared to others.
I'm sure Baffert will let AP stretch his legs on the surface. However that never means anything. Humans can adjust to different conditions. Horses either like a surface or they don't. Hopefully Pharaoh is indifferent to it. The difference in talent between Pharaoh and the 3 year old crowd is very noticeable. This is the best shot at a Triple Crown since Real Quiet.

The climate is also better. Nice break for his efforts.

I went to the Preakness this year. Hit the trifecta. I liked AF and Firing Line in the Derby. I bet the majority of my Derby money on Firing Line with some backup on AP. Won a few bucks. At the Preakness I saw the rain coming. So I bet AP all all and Firing Line all all. Also exactas with Firing Line and all. So in the end I hit a 500 dollar trifecta and won a few bucks. I was close in the Derby to winning a nice chunk of case if Firing Line got up in the end. Overall ended up ahead. That's never a bad day at the track.
