I always carry big greasy wads of cash. And it must be rolled in a rubber band like Lefty from Donnie Brasco.

And if you use your debit card for purchases costing less than 10 bucks at Wawa or Quick Check in Western Monmouth County, I'm coming for you.
----
Yeah man!....... I was with my friends daughter (she about 30) when we went into a dunking donuts for a couple of coffees..... She offered to buy, but I said I would take care of it, and I took out my wad of cash..... She could not believe what she saw, this happening a year ago, but still mentions that I walk around with real money....

As a business owner, I see some will use a credit card for a 30 cent purchase, if it is allowed.... I suspect that when they get a statement, or wants to keep track of their purchases, it can be hard.

well.. logically speaking here if you lose your wallet and you carry cash, that money is most likely gone. If you only have credit cards, you will not be out anything.
If I lost my wallet the last thing I'd care about is the cash in it, even it were hundreds of dollars. Played golf today, tipped the starter, the shoe guy, got a slice of pizza on the way home, all cash of course. I'm not saying it's right or wrong to carry it or not but this thread reminds me, yet again, what a wildly diverse board this is. I would say that maybe the one thing we have in common is that we are fans of RU, but then again, after reading some threads, I also question that.

I carry cash. My cleaning person wants to be paid in cash, and so does my barber. There are also miscellaneous minor expenses I can't put on a credit card. But usually I can -- even at Wawa. I use my credit card for everything else. BTW, it amazes me how many 50 + people there are on this board.

Im shocked too..thats a big number plus 50 that responded

Now that my regular pimp and my blow guy have started taking credit cards, i no longer need to carry any cash...except to tip my Uber drivers

Yes. Starting this year, $200+ in the front pocket, wallet has only CC's. I only use credit cards when purchasing something I might have to return. 2 cards have been hacked 3x the past 2 years.

Don't let the new chip technology fool you. It's already been compromised

i spent 20 years in management in the credit card business and I know what they do with all that data they collect on users and what can happen to someone who suffers from an identity theft. I have 1 credit card, no debit card and use cash for every purchase I can.

I use all cash (except for Paypal online) and have one card. I don't like the way the scene is going away from cash. Whenever I'm on a line and a bunch of Stepford wives on meds are struggling with their cards ("Does this take a chip?") to pay for coffee I get sad lol. I'm like "carry a few bills Muffy!"

Do you carry it in your sock then or under the sole of your shoe?

lots of old geezers on here...
license and card in my back pocket, cash in a front pocket. Wallets are for kids wanting to impress chicks they have no shot at getting

Only if you want to store your Credit Cards (store and bank), Medical Insurance cards, MTA Metrocard, list of medications, driver's license with photo ID,
and other store cards.
List of meds? Thats what your smart phone is for. Bank and credit cards? They can be the same today. Store cards? Sure only if you want to be ripped off! MTA card???? You need a wallet for that? It's thinner than a dollar bill

Hate waiting behind someone using a debit card for a cup of coffee. Cash is much faster.

I usually only carry somewhere around $40-60 on me. At this point I only use it at gas stations where it's cheaper per gallon to pay in cash and places where you have to hit a minimum purchase to use a card. If I'm going to go somewhere like a cash bar (which are becoming more rare) where I'll need more, I'll make a trip to the ATM ahead of time.

Not really, but I will get a few bucks out at the ATM if I am gonna get my hair cut or going to a baseball game or something.

Even when I did carry cash I only had a money clip, never had a wallet. Got my 1st one from my grandpa, now it holds all my cards.

I'm over 50 and I have been carrying several hundred dollars in cash in my wallet the past few weeks because I was too lazy and stupid to put my cash in a safe place at home. Today I dropped and lost my wallet in the food court at Willowbrook mall. To my shock, relief and amazement, Mall security found my wallet with all my credit cards and cash intact. Mall security also refused my attempts to give them a reward. I am going to write the Mall's management a letter commending its security staff.

Wallet for CC, license, med cards and receipts. $400+ in money clip in front pocket. But use CC for most for 2% cash back. Love them points.

Never ever. Can't imagine a situation where I'd really need something and cash is only option. I ask my wife for cash when I want lotto tickets

How do you tip?

This is more than enough reason why you should always carry $10-20 on you. I can't tell you how many times I've been with friends/co workers when a tip is needed and I'm the only dummy with cash and ends up paying it.

Ultimately we end up where i was going. Tipping is going to be a thing of the past soon. The generations are moving away from cash transactions.

Except when the cashier doesn't know how to make change.
Change is a 4 letter word to me.... probably one of the main reasons i never pay anything with cash.

I always keep a few bucks in the car incase i know i'm going somewhere where i'll have to tip the valet guy.

All of you guys using cash are missing out on free hotel rooms, flights, etc. But to each his own. I'll pay for a pack of gum with my CC. Wish I could pay my mortgage with it.

thats not the point. I still carry a phone and can lose that at any time. If i lose a wallet with $200 in it. I'm out 200 bucks. If i lose a wallet with credit cards, i'm not out anything except the cost of the wallet.

Aside from buying gas, paying cash costs you more.
Who puts money in their wallet?

So what does Visa/MC have on me that Google, Facebook, and Amazon don't? Hell, what about Rivals (aka Yahoo)?

And surely 20 years in the CC business has shown you that a stolen credit card isn't the cause of identity theft, right? You're advocating for the abolishment of SSNs, not credit cards.

The chip technology is a marketing scam. My wife and I both have chip cards and hers was skimmed while we were on vacation last week on the Florida Gulf Coast. We got back yesterday and some jackass has a great time at Dave & Busters in New York plus a ton of cab rides and a meal in Long Island and some fun at a strip club all at the same time we were getting sushi in Tampa and oysters in Indian Rocks Beach. I paid cash for stuff and had no problems.

I'll use credit cards for pretty much any purchases over $10, since I get rewards/great credit for paying them off on time and it's easy to track purchases.
In Manhattan, cash is great for the morning coffee cart, lunch fruit, refilling the MTA card, and buying a single drink at a crowded bar without waiting even more obscene amounts of time.
I have a great wallet for all my cash/cards/info and keep it comfortably in my front pocket everywhere except the gym without incident.
Even as someone in my late 20s, it's great to balance keeping $150 handy to use as desired, together with several CC's as noted..

Ultimately we end up where i was going. Tipping is going to be a thing of the past soon. The generations are moving away from cash transactions.

Tipping is becoming more and more common. People put out tip jars for basically anything these days.

Now I'm sure there will be some new app/technology that comes out where you can virtually tip but it it's even close to becoming a thing of the past.
