OT: UNLV starting QB leaves over unfulfilled NIL

NJ Peddie HS kid with terrible completion % but knows when to run and has good running stats.

NCAA 14: I was the worst recruiter. I would make every promise under the sun.
Pretty sure I promised 3 different QBs a starting spot in one offseason.
Ultimately (and rightly) they would transfer out.

Amazing that some people just disregard holding "coaches" (I know it's not from the school but they are involved in NIL decisions) accountable for their promises.

Alternatively, we hear never ending "we promised HC Schiano we would do XXXX in his contract and if it's not fulfilled he's leaving" or other demands from coaches.

Could you imagine how quick a coach would leave if he wasn't paid what he was promises?
This is why we need contracts.

"To everyone who responded to my post. I have a friend who works for Friends of UNILV (their collective), he said they've paid him everything he agreed to, got him a place to live and a vehicle to drive.

He came to them after the first win over Houston and said he needed a better car, they said they would look into it. He came again after the win over Kansas and asked for more money, they said they didn't have more. He asked where his new car was, they said none of the dealerships were interested for the price the collective could afford.

He went to the head coach. Head coach said he can't do anything, school isn't associated with the collective. He thew a fit and quit the team. The collective and university can't say shit, because of future ramifications."

They were definitely looking like a strong contender for the G5 playoff spot.

Ouch ! Kid threw his school under the bus . Wonder how practice will go ? Lol

Spoiled little shit head .

Bryson Stott is unlikely unhappy over being recently platooned.
Maybe he'll jump the Phillies and take over back home.
He's got the arm and he was wearing an UNLV helmet during the NL East celebration.

Well,that's a different situation

So this story turns out to be BS. Shocking.

So he had a contract and after a some success he immediately wanted to renegotiate and look for a pay increase instead of fulfilling the length of the contract?

Sounds like he has a future in head coaching…..

If UNLV lied to him and they did not honor their contract with him and he should leave.
If he is moving the goal posts ..F him. Unfortunately the dirtbag Cuse fruit will now have a chance to beat UNLV in 2 weeks.

This is a money grab by the player. Transfer from HC to UNLV and is 3-0? On the last year of his eligibility....he's not going pro...so, with him lightening it up, he is going for his last chance to get paid. So, let the bidding begin.

Hate it or not, there is so much money flying around, can't blame the player using this loop hole...quitting before playing the 4 game. Sad reality. 100 UNLV players taking the hit.
Whoever promised the NIL is the one at fault. That’s it, bottom line.

LOL this player is doing what I warned about would come. Pay for play is still in its infancy, add this to the growing list of problems.

Remember once again, there is a reason NO Profesional League still operates under this system. MLB has a punitive Luxury Tax while the NFL, NHL, and NBA has a hard salary cap. Without it fans and indeed markets get priced out.

The ESPN article is hilarious. Written by a Sarahcuse grad of course. It's good to see that school dropping. Their overrated grads will weave that shitty school into any game or article possible, even as irrelevant or untrue as it often is. It's always so desperate.

" The Rebels' home game the following Friday night against Syracuse has become among the most anticipated in recent school history." LOL

If only people understood how the economy works as well as they understand NIL.
There's people who get their economic understanding from propagandists and politicians, people who get their understanding from textbooks and classrooms, people who get their understanding from teaching it their whole lives, and people who don't have a clue, and all kinds of other levels of understanding.

Thing is, the economy, these days, is so vastly complex, with so many moving parts, that I'm pretty sure nobody fully understands how the economy works anymore. Which is probably why even expert economists often disagree about economics.

people know when things are expensive !

people know when things are expensive !
Yeah, but something like 99% of the people whose reaction to stuff being expensive is to point fingers at others don't really have the faintest idea why things are expensive. Because those people got their economics lesson from political propaganda. 🙂

Then again, if your best completion percentage of the season is 47.1% and have a total of 21 completions after 3 games, why are we having this conversation?
I think he threw for a combined total of 318 yards in 3 games. I think if he played the season out and improved on that he could have used his redshift next year with another program for even bigger $$$.

If a school promises a player a certain amount of money to come play for them, the school better not stiff the player.

So UNLV is saying the NIL was only $12,000 or even $3,000.
Like I said above, it’s he said-he said. This is why you need transparency which is good for all parties.

Even when the schools are eventually allowed to to pay players, NIL will still be involved as another layer on top of that. But that also has to be transparent, otherwise this situation can still happen.

UNLV takes another hit. 4th leading rusher is redshirting as well, 108yds doesn’t seem like much.

edit: looks like it was a planned RS

Any chance this Sluka kid ends up at Frootloops next year?
Probably
QB McCord is one and down { was one on the best in this past Portal)…
Depends whether the Fruit will pay… and probably will need to pay upfront with this interloper.

It's the exact same thing as NFL players that hold out into training camp over contracts. Only in this case, because it's still the wild west, there was no contract. Just promises that weren't kept.

The player had to make a really tough decision. I'm sure he didn't like giving up on his team. And he sure as hell didn't like getting screwed out of his promised compensation.

I wonder if it will be hard to out recruit UNLV for the next decade. They had more to lose and they lost it.

I wonder if the assistant coach made an offer, he did not have the authority to make.

If he did make the offer and it is proven, is it possible that UNLV will have to pay it even though the player left?
Coach will deny he made the offer. That’s why it’s important to get things in writing.

So another case of an assistant coach overpromising and underdelivering? The market for a starting QB is $3000 or $100000? Would the kid go cross country for 3K and a beat up car?

a case of where's the money , let the team lose if I don't get paid.
Remember a kid that was promised big NIL bucks if he went to a Florida program, found out it wasn't coming so he left for an Arizona school and after a year found a new home .

NIL money needs to be guaranteed by the school and recruit accepting it loses eligibility if he leaves school if NIL is paid
Schools benefiting from boosters NIL deals with players should lose scholarships if a player doesn't receive the money promised him/her if they commit to that school
