OT: UNLV starting QB leaves over unfulfilled NIL

According to the Unlv nil coop everything they agree to is in writing.
You may know that unless there is an integration clause in the contract that says the agreement is complete, the contract could be open to verbal modifications after signing. Course of conduct, etc. (upping his original deal) may also come into play. I'm not advocating for the young man, just relating possible loopholes.

Hope if nothing else the player tells his side, as much as he can, at least for the benefit of other players. Might not be enough to litigate over. The key message seems to be get everything in writing. $3k doesn’t sound like a credible amount to get a 5th year starting QB out of the portal. Sure the scholarship is nice, but this is 2024.

NJ Peddie HS kid with terrible completion % but knows when to run and has good running stats.
Peddie was his prep year. He played 4 years at Kellenberg (Long Island born & raised) first. Over $100,000 spent on high school dreams of going Div 1 FBS...no wonder he & the family are chasing the dollars now.

The player's father is claiming it was a verbal agreement that went though the Rebels OC
>Sluka's NIL representative, Marcus Cromartie of Equity Sports, told ESPN that Sluka is leaving the program after he was verbally promised a minimum of $100,000 from a UNLV coach and only received $3,000.

His father, Bob Sluka, told ESPN they had a verbal agreement with UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion for what they believed was a "reasonable, fair number," even if it was much less than what Power 4 programs offered, but payments were repeatedly delayed and no effort was made to formalize a contract with their collective for that amount.<

Oh good, sound like a good case to consider the parol evidence rule. Wonder if the contract had an integration clause.

First article is a paywall article but for the comments. Looks like someone offered to pay the 100K for UNLV. Sounds like it was too late after he already left the team.

Derek and I talked about the situation and thought it would be worth it for $100 thousand to keep the Rebels’ playoff hopes alive,” Palm said.

Palm added that he was told there was "almost no chance" of such a deal happening due to Sluka's departure from the program.

Might be best for all if Sulka is gone.
He felt the money was more important than the team and his OC might have lied to him about the pay he's be getting when he came to the Runnin Rebels program..

Don't know whose the bigger "chickenshit" , Sulka for quitting on the team when it's future looked great with him at QB or UNLV for not making sure Sulka revived what he was promised if he came to play.

All in all this shows how the NIL has become one the most impotent reasons players decide which program they will play for and why them might leave the one they are at.

Looks like Sluka wasn't as needed as he thought he was, at least against Fresno State today
UNLV won the game 59-14 and remained undefeated
His replacement went 13-16 for 182 yards with 3 TDs > 0 int and no sacks
Gained 119 yards with 1 TD in 12 carries

As stated above, sure didn't matter for UNLV today. They ate Fresno State's lunch...beat 'em like a drum...and the QB who did play for the Rebels looked just fine, thank you very much,

Highly doubt too many tears were shed today by the UNLV faithful because Sluka wasn't taking the snaps.

Sluka's passing won't be missed , his rushing ability looks like it's been replace and by a better passer.
But one game might not be enough to claim that

"To everyone who responded to my post. I have a friend who works for Friends of UNILV (their collective), he said they've paid him everything he agreed to, got him a place to live and a vehicle to drive.

He came to them after the first win over Houston and said he needed a better car, they said they would look into it. He came again after the win over Kansas and asked for more money, they said they didn't have more. He asked where his new car was, they said none of the dealerships were interested for the price the collective could afford.

He went to the head coach. Head coach said he can't do anything, school isn't associated with the collective. He thew a fit and quit the team. The collective and university can't say shit, because of future ramifications."
The only question remaining is whether the OC made him that offer without head coach consent

Matt Sluka's ex HC could claim it's not about money, but so far it's the lack of money being paid is the claim why he left

>In a statement, UNLV said Sluka's representatives made financial demands in order to continue playing that its athletic department interpreted as a violation of the NCAA pay-for-play rules and Nevada state law. "UNLV does not engage in such activities, nor does it respond to implied threats," the school said in the statement.<

Until I find out different, it's the money that's the issue and why he left
