OT-Yankees Season Over-Who R The Overall Top Free Agents/Yankees' Targets?

As a Yankees fan and former season/partial ticketholder some excitement with all of the new players. However it's obvious the Yankees still need some pitching. Who R gonna be the top free agents? Who will be the Yankees top targets? Who winds up as a Yankee. Discuss.

Good luck to the Mets. Wouldn't mind attending a playoff game. Unfortunately me has little money and methinks no bowl game!

Their top targets will probably be Aroldis Chapman, Cespedes, and Encarnacion.
With not much available through free agency in the way of starting pitching, I'm guessing the Yankees trade for a quality starter.

Cespedes?? No fing way are they interested.

I think they are saving their powder for Bryce Harper in two years. If Matt Harvey bounces back and has a good year, I can see them going after him as well. Still some deadwood to be eaten or dealt off at a discount next year.

Nobody - they won't sign any in the off season...well nobody of note. Maybe a few low to mid tier free agents for need but definitely no blockbuster deals.

They have gone in the other direction - think they will let the kids develop in 17 and maybe go for it in 18.

I think they will try to re sign Chapman. They definitely need 2 starting pitchers and an outfielder who can hit for power. I think they will try to trade Gardner or Ellsbury but Ellsbury's salary probably makes this unlikely.

Im putting my money on no one of significance. I expect a Gardner trade. I expect Ellsbury to be on the team next year.

Agree they'll try to trade Gardner and Ellsbury, but more likely to move McCann and Castro for pitching due to depth at their positions.

Yanks went 84-78 I think. They cannot improve with both Gardner and Ellsbury in the OF. Both are very good defensively but neither has much offensive power. Can't go up against Boston, Baltimore, and Toronto with two guys at the top of the order batting .265 with little power.

As Knights1212 said Ellsbury's contract likely makes Gardner the guy who goes if anyone. The question is do they bring someone in or go all in with the young guys?

What the heck are you going to get in a trade for Gardner? Nothing. His greatest value is playing for the Yankees.
There is no .300 power hitting outfielders available.

Of course you're not going to get much, if anything, for him. I'm saying he's likely the odd man out if the Yanks can either make a trade, bring in a FA if one is even available, or go with younger guys.

2017 free agent class is fantastic, 2016 not so much.
Bautista is available but just dont think Yanks are interested in over paying for a 36 year old.

I'd think a younger (26) guy like Castro would fit the Yankees future plans. He had a pretty good year.

The nitwits on Yankee radio said McCann really wants to stay in NY. Does he have enough value as a veteran PT catcher and DH to consider keeping?

Let the dust settle a few weeks before even thinking about next season.

I'll say this, 4 years without the playoffs and declining attendance, I'll bet ownership will make a splash or two.

I think the Chapman ship has sailed.
It was risk to deal him, if they had kept him he definitely would have signed back here.
Now, I doubt it.

McCann is useless.

His batting average as a Yankee after 3 years is .235. He has some HR power but if he doesn't hit a HR, he clogs up the bases. The only way he can go from 1st to 3rd is if the batter hits a double.

In 2018 they will be loaded
If tate and sheffield and a few other young starters make the grade they will be a force for years to come
Again..

Hell no. Yankees will have their chance at him next year anyway. And not have give up anything.

There is no way the Angels would make that trade.

Top free agents according to a mlb.com article from September 1:

C: Wilson Ramos (but tore his ACL I think. And not a position of need for the Yankees.)

1B: Edwin Encarnacion, Steve Pearce, Mitch Moreland. Only EE is a good FA.

2B: Neil Walker (back surgery) and Chase Utley (37)

SS: Nothing unless Ian Desmond goes back to SS. Alcides Escobar, Alexei Ramirez, and Erick Aybar? Blah.

3B: Justin Turner, Martin Prado, Luis Valbuena

OF: Cespedes, Dexter Fowler, Ian Desmond, Michael Saunders, Colby Rasmus, Jose Bautista, Matt Holliday, Beltran, Trumbo, Reddick, Bruce.

SP: Rich Hill (36 and can't stay healthy but pitched great this season when we was), Colby Lewis (37), Bartolo Colon (43!), Hellickson, and Nova.

RP: Mark Melancon, Kenley Jansen, Aroldis Chapman. Guys like Blanton, Rome could be available too that aren't closers.

Pretty slim pickings overall.

They need to replace Gardner and Headley. Some of the young pitchers we saw this year may be the answer. Severino stays in the bullpen maybe as closer? The trades they made for youth will yield stars in another year. They have enough to compete next year but Sox Jays and O's are not going anywhere but up.

I think the O's are going up next year but have question marks on the other 2. Red Soxs without Big Papi in the locker room and at the plate is a huge loss. The dont make the playoffs without him this year.
Jays could lose both Bautista and Encanarcion. Will definitely lose one

I agree. I've been saying all year that they need to replace Headley and Gardner. I've never seen a guy with Gardner's speed make such little use of it. And Headley is just brutal with a bat in his hand.

Bus the Sox will be just fine . They need pitching and will get some. Toronto may lose those two and the paradigm will change but if not they are going to be in the mix every year. I love this division. You have to work for the prize.

I thought Trout signed an extension through 2021...
I tought he has an out after next year when the big $$ roll in. Quick search and cant find a mention of it. Was sure I heard someone talking about it on radio.

I agree with the slim pickings. See if you can get one of Bautista/Rasmus/Holliday for a reasonable or short-term deal as DH or part-time OF. Same for Nova. None of these guys would figure to be in the long-term plans but could serve as 1 or 2 year stop-gaps. Go after Chapman and Encarnacion harder though.
