Our starting QB had 3 completions all game?

There should be NO options off the table at the QB position, including Rettig.

Many of our problems are talent related, execution and blocking at times, but every now and again, there needs to be a deep THREAT. The worst that could happen is we wouldn't score . . . wait, scratch that.

The rebuild will take time, I knew this before the season started. We were all warned that the previous staff left us in a bad situation, I didn't believe it was THAT bad; it most certainly is. So, I will continue to support the team, the players and the staff, but this season is going to hurt a bit. Won't be the first time we've had to endure this, so let's just enjoy the ride.

I believe most coaches would have red shirted such a new, inexperienced, QB
especially in this complexed system, also the extra year will help to get
the rest of the team ready to play in this system with him.

This isn't a supposed to be a complex system and it is much easier for a true freshman to step into it then the pro style we have used previously. It may look complex because we have a stable full of qbs who do not fit the system. The biggest think about red shirting oden would be his size( he is most likely the best suited to start based off of skill set )

We need to play others. You cant convince me Rettig cant do better than that. Its disgusting......

He started the day completing his first two pass attempts for 32 yards. The game was over when Harris fumbled the lateral on the double reverse flea flicker and still tried to get the ball back to Laviano.

Rettig doesn't fit this offense. He should transfer to FCS for his senior season (unless he can graduate this year and play in FBS) to a team running a pro offense.

" Rettig doesn't fit this offense" and Laviano does?
Adjust the offense for the time being, our OC
is too stubborn for his own and Rutgers good.

I used to think along these lines, but I no longer do. When you start running a hybrid offense, you run the risk of never getting the players to ever run your offense. You will always have some square pegs you need to fill round holes.

I've lived in Atlanta since the 1990 and followed the Falcons since they were the local team. Atlanta ran the Run and Shoot from 1990 through 1996 under Jerry Glanville and later June Jones. They then hired Dan Reeves to take over in 1997 (I have never been a Reeves fan). They started out 0-5 and then dropped two of their next three and were 1-7 at midseason. I thought they should have changed the system a bit to use their personnel more effectively, as you are suggesting. But they figured it out and went 6-2 (including a 5 game winning streak) to finish the season. They went 14-2 in 1998 and lost Super Bowl XXXIII... the only Super Bowl in franchise history. Reeves being true to his ability, who had complete control over the team, ended up drafting horribly and making personnel mistakes (he traded the Super Bowl for Michael Vick) that eventually cost him his job.

How much time do these coaches have to work with the players to make the adjustments you seek after classes start? The time for this is NOT after four or five games. The time to make the adjustment is the day he was hired when he had no idea how badly some players would perform in the system. Sam Wyche once said that every football coach is fired the day they're hired. We just don't know what day they're fired yet. If we believe this statement to be reasonably accurate, do you want to get fired trying to adjust your system to the personnel or get your personnel to adjust to your system?

sherrane: In the NFL, I think it makes most sense to tailor the gameplan to the players. There is such parity in the league that if someone does something exceptionally well, it's almost criminal not to let them do whatever that is.

In college, it's a bit different in that the better teams can pretty much pick "parts" that fit their system. Plus -- as you mentioned -- practice time is much more limited so it makes more sense to streamline the playbook.

But our OC was a WR position coach last year in the American Athletic Conference...doesn't that make he qualified to be the OC in the B1G ?
The AAC school he was WR coach at was considered the best in that conference and a Top 25 program in 2015 and ending that season ranked #8
The year before that he was an OC for a FCS program that wound up ranked #11 when the final 2015 FCS rankings came out.
He's young, but has some OC experience at James Madison along with being part of making Houston's offense great

To be fair, this quarterback situation is not CL's fault. He, like a number of players on our team, have been playing football since POP Warner. They were scouted and offered a D1 scholarship by our former coaching staff. These players are just living out their dreams of playing college football.

That being said, this coaching staff needs to make the decision of when to switch to Oden full time. My hope is after the Michigan game where he will be in a position to have the most success.

It's "not" CL's fault that he can't throw the ball within 10-yards of the LOS?
