Outside of Malcolm Pridgeon re-re-considering and maybe a monster year from Russo, the star gazers' (and I'm kinda guilty here) only hope for a four star is Rene. I'm not a premium member but I'm hearing good things just by perusing ElevenWarriors and other free sites. I hope we can land him!

This Friday he will be at Ohio State for their Friday Night Lights. If he does not commit to OSU right after that I think there is a great chance we land him.

And we actually have multiple players already committed that have a real shot at 4 star status.

Actually, there probably is only one guy with a shot at 4 stars and that is Manning - if you follow Rivals rankings. And I have no idea if Manning is a guy that will go up or down - haven't followed him that closely.

Anybody that has already been evaluated - well they move, but the later you get the less movement there is. Remember, these are "recruiting projections" and are based a lot on frame, speed, potential, etc., in addition to performance - not unlike what goes on with the NFL draft.

Maybe Russo has a shot, but I doubt it. You look at his "combine" numbers and they are awfully low. Maybe he is a 4* for the RU system, but that doesn't mean he will be rated a 4 star by Rivals - there will be kids that are athletically off the charts ahead of him that need more development with their skill set. I would bet he ends up 5.7 3* - which historically is still a very good recruit - not a lot of difference in success rates between the 5.7s and the 4 stars.

Of course plenty of RU fans will ignore all of the above and whine that Rivals and Farrell and Friedman have a bias against RU. Just like every other fan base in the country is absolutely sure of. It's comical if you go on other sites, everyone says the same da&n thing. They should just make everyone happy and give everyone 4*s.

OSU already has two commits for CB and it's expected that Andrew Pryts will commit this week at FNL plus we are still going hard after Damar Hamlin and Jordan Fuller. The only way I see room for Rene is if OSU misses on the three names listed. From everything I've read on our board and your Rutgers 247 board it looks like you guys are in great shape to land a high quality athlete at CB. I hope you guys get him because I want all the talent to stay within the B1G. Except for TSUN (That School Up North) of course.

I just had this conversation before with someone else. Rivals is in the business of scouting. Yes they were not invited to the Elite 11 but they will not ignore that just on spite. All the other sites will have Russo as a 4 star as a result of the Elite 11 if Rivals consistently devalues players that end up being good they will lose their reputation and as a result lose customers. So no matter what they say the Elite 11 will be taken into account.

Also Pollock has already been named MVP in the last national HS all-star game and has been put on the Army All American watch list, and has done exceptionally well at Rivals camps. He also has a real shot at 4 star status.

There is also Wright, who experts have said is a 4 star talent, but I admit that is a long shot.

Then there is Manning, as you already said, who NJVarsity.com has already put in the top 10 in the state.

So I stand by what I said, we have a real shot at multiple players getting the 4th star.

yeah, I think OSU's slow playing Rene.....thinking he's Rutgers bound.

think Pryts turns into a LB..not sure.....does OSU get both Hamlin & Fuller?

what's OSU class size looking like for 2016?

Is this anecdotal or do you have any data sources that have done analysis on the success rates of CFB players as they relate back to their Recruiting Ranking? If you do, would like to see it.....would definitely be a great source of info.

Right now OSU has 19 commits and will most likely end up with 25 in the 2016 class. I believe OSU would take both Hamlin & Fuller if they wanted in. Even though we have other spots to fill I would like to think they wouldn't turn either of them away. Both are great talents. We still have some spots to fill at DT, WR, LB,OL, and TE. It's going to get tight heading down the stretch.

25? are some players getting "cut"?

I know they would take both Hamlin & Fuller...but what's the word on the streets of Columbus, are they both leaning there?.....hoping PSU snags 1 of the 2

I'm hoping for at least a handful of 4 star recruits...on the field 3 or 4 years from now. Not as concerned about the number on signing day. Target and sign the right prospects and develop them. RU isn't OSU ..they are not going to be able to sign large numbers of 4 star HS players.

There will be some natural attrition mixed in with some yearly "cuts" being made. From what I've read OSU likes where they sit with both Hamlin and Fuller right now. Of course recruiting is fluid and things can change quickly but I expect OSU to land one of them. Hamlin is scheduled to attend Friday Night Lights while Fuller will not. I have no idea if that means anything and a sign of things to come. Got to love recruiting!

ok thanks for your input

It will take a few years but we will start getting our share of 4 and 5 stars just like we did when Schiano was here. Remember in 2012 we got 4 four stars 1 five star and all the rest were high ranked 3 star recruits. Flood just needs to prove he can win in the B1G.

I'm not sure if Flood is the guy to get you there, but I definitely see Rutgers starting to pull in better recruiting classes in the next few years. Stars don't really mean much in terms of talent, but it means a lot regarding perception and I think once you can land one or two really solidly *rated* recruiting classes, the recruits will take notice and the flood gates will open.

What about Harmon? I thought we were in good shape with him....Is it a WR logjam?
Harmon is goner than gone

He was rumored to be going to South Carolina, now a rumor of North Carolina St as his destination is popping up.
Rutgers seems not to be in the picture, as rumors have it, but no one really knows what school he'll pick.
But I wouldn't put my money on him being a Scarlet Knight lean,

I hate it when a kid keeps repeating that we're his number 1 for months. Okay, if we're your number one then commit.

Flood's the guy.

There has been data shared many times over the years on this board and others. I've done it myself a few times - mostly quoting data others have compiled.

Too lazy to do it again right now, but if you look around it's out there. There is not a lot of difference between a 5.7 guy and 4 star guys. Start to see a difference in the 5.6s and 5.5s.

And I guess the "success rate" is subjective. Usually correlates to drafted/draft position which is kind of skewed towards the ratings as it is influenced by potential. Which these ratings are also.

When recruits say Rutgers is their too school but don't commit, it usually means they are looking for a better offer. I think Harmon may have overplayed his Rutgers offer as Rutgers has decided to not wait and moved to kids that want to play here. With 4 WR recruits already verbally committed I don't think we take any more except for a high 4*.

The kid wanted to take some official visits before committing. Can't fault him for that. By the way, when some of RUs commits express an interest in taking official visits to other schools during the fall is Flood going to throw a fit like he usually does?

You mean like he did 3 years ago? You should update your anti flood material because it's outdated.

South Carolina is a weird place for a NJ kid. Campus is blah and Columbia SC is by far the crappiest city (if you call it that) I have ever been too. Pawn shops, fast food, cheap tattoo palors and churches on Route 1 by the airport. But you can fail a drug test 3 times for weed so it must have some attraction to specific recruits.

As said elsewhere unless you are a top talent Rutgers isn't going to wait and be played by Nj recruits looking for other "big" offers. This may have happened on the past but doesn't seem to be happening any more.

I feel bad for some of these kids as they are getting bad advice and may wind up at a lower level because they are being told they are better than a Rutgers offer...

Agreed. These 3+/4- level recruits that get caught-up in the SEC or ND/SoCal/OhioSt, etc. whirlwind will be fighting just to be noticed in practice against 4* & 5* players on these rosters year-after-year. Easy to get lost in a numbers game and not develop.

No one in particular but let's see where the 2016 top 30 NJ recruits wind up. Especially ones that had early RU offers.

Any update on Rene? I know he was at OSU yesterday. OSU fans keep telling us that they have cooled off on him, but I don't buy it

Battle could be a four star. Read elsewhere where some people think he is that good.

As of the latest prediction re Rene on 247sports, (7/19/15), it was 71% RU. -Of course, that was before the OSU camp. It'll be interesting to see if/how much that percentage changes now that the Buckeyes' event is over and Rene performed at such a high level there.

Hopefully things will continue to lean in the Knight's direction, but guess we'll just have to wait and see on that one.
