Penn St dismisses 4 star NJ Freshman LB

How does a kid waste an opportunity like this? SMH.
Hope he gets it together, as I don't want to see him on the streets of Union City.

Al, depending on what he did, that might be where he deserves to be. I agree though it's a waste of talent. Great player doesn't always mean, great person.

He was originally committed to Syracuse, then came to the RU-Penn St game as guest of RU, then committed to Franklin & PSU at the game.

He's dismissed. He's done. He may get a second chance, but it won't be at PSU. Syracuse might be a possibility.

Hope he learns from this, lands on his feet and gets a good education while playing football.

Hoping not Rutgers!!!! Granted the way he boned RU the 1st time around I'm going to say 100% no on that alone.
It must have been serious to get the boot from Franklin

Wow! I didn't even know they reported for camp. That was fast. And yes, I remember the stunt he pulled on us

NCAA changed the rules to allow freshmen to enroll on scholarship in the summer. So most enroll mid summer. Prior to to the rule change they would have had to pay their own way most would arrive for camp. He has been on campus since June 28 and this was not his first strike.

What were his strikes?

I am wondering WHERE the violation occurred.. was it at PSU or back home? I am often torn when a kid from a troubled area chooses to go out of state rather than stay at Rutgers.. on the one hand it would be nice to keep them home.. on the other hand, perhaps distance and separation is what they need. But some stories in past years about gang connections in college football programs and even the NFL.. I wonder if they can really get away from it.

I don't know the details but reading between the lines I am guessing that a wake up call and maturity will help. I know his position coach was asked about him at media day and he said he been a handful. There have been no charges filed so I doubt it is legal issues.

I doubt he ends up at Rutgers because of B1G rules. He would have to sit out this year and lose a year of eligibility. I imagine he ends up at either Syracuse or Temple because he would be eligible right away because he never enrolled full time. (NCAA considered enrolled once classes start)

He was the kid who attended the RU - Penn St game as a guest of Rutgers. He proceeded to embarrass RU by committing to Penn St at the game. Maybe he can join Myles Hartfield somewhere.

This was a board rumor. He came to that game with his transcripts and was told no thanks. Can our psu friends tell us if he was going to get through the clearinghouse? My understanding is there was little chance.

He was qualified. You don't actually believe that story do you? When a school receives transcript they recieve them directly from the school. Seriously you think I kid just to games with tanscripts? Secondly even if he did show up with his transcript who was going to look at them and make a decision? I think the coaching staff would had a little more pressing things to do then evaluate a transcript. Do you think a academic advisor going to tell the kid no with out discussing and reviewing it with the coaching staff?

Here's what I believe, whether they were "transcripts " or some other school info doesn't really matter. But I was told by a HS coach who was there for the conversation that upon seeing the paperwork he was told it ain't gonna happen and you should look elsewhere.

If you believe that I got a bridge to sell you. It just not how things go down at games. Guys are lucky to spend five minutes with the coaches. They don't bring paperwork. You have recruiting coordinators and graduate assistants handling the visits. Now if it was an official visit then they would have spent more time however they are required to have received an official transcripts directly from the school prior to the visit. In reality they should have seen his transcript in May during the spring evaluation period. Part of the visits to the school is to review transcripts. So if this was the first time they saw his grades or paper work it means some one was not doing their job.

Ok...I'll go on the assumption that a guy I have known since we were 6 is lieing to me and you keep on believing the guy named Joe in the emails wasn't a reference to jopa.

^Are you really saying that RU turned this kid away because of grades?!? Let's be real. Every RU fan knew how recruiting was going at that time. No way we would have turned him down for grades. He would have given us momentum. Let's not be ridiculous

Wow. I had forgotten about how he committed. I cannot even blame a kid for these types of actions - His support structure must be very weak for him to pull something like this. As a parent or coach I would be embarrassed if my kid pulled something like this and he would be calling the RU coaches to personally apologize for wasting their time. Hopefully he can get his life together one way or the other.

Man, you really have to screw up to get kicked out prior to pre-season camp. I hope the kid gets it together.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Just like it was said about webb and this board said no way. Now the mods are saying Webb isn't going to qualify after all. We have seen flood will take academic risks if a kid is willing to put work in.....if they aren't though?????

If your friend since you were six was there for the conversation between Rutgers coaches and Kelly one of the following is true. The rutger coaches have no class for not doing this in private with the kid or if it was done in private your friend is slimy gossiping about on his players to you. Since it grade related as you applied he also violating Kelly privacy and the school should be notified. More the likely it probably just a rumor he heard and you embellished saying he was there. So which is it? I think it the latter because Rutgers has taken more then their fair share of academic risky kids like all schools do.

For the record I do believe it was Joe that was referenced in the email.
