Penn St dismisses 4 star NJ Freshman LB

I am guessing he ends up at a prep school or JC. It probably the best move. Gives him a chance to stay out of trouble and then move up to bigger stage.
Any chance he could enroll at PSU for fall camp? There is a ship open now.

Creep State...

It was a set up all along. They took a kid that was willing to act like a jerk off and used him to pull a jerk off recruiting stunt. Their culture is bankrupt.

Instead, the proper thing would be to hold off accepting and announcing his commitment to some other time.
Nope, it's a sickness with that crowd. Weird, warped and creepy.

Well you can assume it was worse than child rape.

Where did the kid from Sayerville end up going after Ped St pulled his Ship?

That was definitely entertaining - here's a sample:

What a sampling of classy comments. Even moderators jumping on the pedophile joke bandwagon.

Where the Star Ledger articles or at least NJ.com? if this happened at RU Politi and company would be conducting an expose with multiple articles.

Valdez did not go into specifics as to why Kelly was dismissed from the program, but was adamant that it was not due to any kind of legal troubles. Speculation had risen that perhaps an arrest led to Kelly’s dismissal, but Valdez said that simply was not the case.

“Speculation is great isn’t it,” Valdez said. “No, that (legal issues) had absolutely nothing to do with it. He made an immature mistake and now he has to learn from that, though.

“You’re at a big-time program at Penn State and all our kids are warned that you can’t behave in a certain manner when you’re representing a university like that. He made some immature decisions and now he has to learn from it.”

Kelly signed with Penn State in February over offers from Michigan State, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia, Boston College and many others. Valdez said the hope is to find a new school for the Union City native as soon as possible.

“We’ve been weighing a bunch of options and not to get religious on you or anything, but God doesn’t make mistakes,” Valdez said. “I think everything happens for a reason. Our job is not to job or criticize, it’s to help. That’s the mode myself, Daiquan and his mom are in.

“He’s not a bad person or malicious person committing crimes. He went through some freshman growing pains and he has to learn from that. Hopefully he gets his next shot soon and takes full advantage of that. Daiquan will be fine.”

Freshman growing pains? He's been there for 6 weeks. And it's Penn State. They don't throw anyone out.

Maybe he's ISIS or Al Qaeda...

God doesn't make mistakes? Maybe everything happens for a reason?
That's pretty funny.

...seems like exactly what I thought it was (kid playing Johnny Football Rockstar trying to re-enact Animal House before fall classes even started)...he was probably warned multiple times by the PSU staff as well.

But again, it's PSU. They've kept guys with pending FELONY ASSAULT charges on the roster until the cases were adjudicated. This kid gets kicked out for partying too hard in the summer?

I'm sticking with ISIS...

My personal opinion is Franklin used him to set an example. Kick out a player early that maybe won't be a star, and get everyone else in line quick. Players know now that they won't get away with the crap that Paterno allowed.

And the way recruiting is getting so hot for PSU, the replacement scholarship player in Class of 2016 might very well be an upgrade.

Kid probably done something that he might have been arrested for someplace else, but in Happy Valley Nit players get more leeway and PSU usually handles it
Franklin decided not to take a chance of it happening again , so dismissed Kelly and keep what happened from the public .
As far as kid not going to be a star, no one really can say that and usually 4 star recruits are considered potential starters

Think those implying the kid wasn't good enough for Penn St are trying to spin a dismissible offense into trying to make it look like it was the roster spot he had and not the offense he committed that caused Kelly to be kicked off the Nit FB team.

This is from his High School Coach:

“He made an immature mistake and now he has to learn from it,” the coach said. “You’re at a big-time program at Penn State and all our kids are warned that you can’t behave in a certain manner when you’re representing a university like that. He made some immature decisions and now he has to learn from it.”

Looks like he will sign with umass. Hopefully he learns from this and has a great career.

No inside sources, just a gut feeling. Somehow it's related to academics, perhaps his performance in the courses(s) he took this summer.

Bingo

Like baseball, you get 3 strikes (meetings with the hc about a "student responsibility not met"--team rule) then you are out.

He was fully qualified. Word is he is transferring to U Mass.

We gave him a chance and he blew it and was kicked off so...

I have no issue with that but he had already had two chances. Someone in here said Temple had standards that they wouldn't take a player like Kelly. Haven't seen Kelly in a police blotter but both of Zayd's issues were.

That's a bit of a comedown. From Syracuse to PSU to UMass. Not even Temple or ODU. Karma.

That says an awful lot if Temple won't take a chance on you. And UMass will redshirt him and wants him as a Safety.

Wasn't he a 3-star before committing to Ped and then got the extra star bump? Time will tell if he was just an over-hyped NJ recruit. Wonder if Franklin was using him for recruiting PR against Flood.

Franklin is alleged to have helped cover up rape at Vandy. Now he's trying to set an example with this guy at PSU?
I don't know what this kid did, but it must be really bad.

Alleged by who?

Yeah maybe Kelly committed Felony Armed Robbery. Or maybe he kicked in an unconscious man's head in a bar fight

Cj, I understand defending your school and all but the legal stuff is NOT something you want to get into a pissing match about. You won't win (in reality no one really 'wins').

Nah...that guy was from Hoboken ....and he was the starting quarterback for Pedd St. at the time....and PSU had a different head coach back then....a guy that could only see the scoreboard.

Are you talking about Rashard Casey?

Penn St is known for covering up some criminal acts. That armed robbery would have been put down as aggressively seeking donations by the Penn St campus police back in the Paterno days.
I'm surprised they got rid of Kelly, instead of giving him an honorary title and covering up for him the next time he did it
Would have guessed Franklin would have made him Captain of the freshman class, maybe he's not as bad of a person asPaterno was.

Though Franklin contacting a victim of rape wasn't very nice, especially when the rapists were members of Franklin's football team. Franklin might not be the best role model for the youth of today, but he's better than the long time Nit HC named Paterno that didn't have an once of decency in him.
Paterno gave his DC an honorary title and office after that scumbag was accused of a despicable crime and covered up for Coach Emeritus after he was caught in the act.

Funny thing, rugger, RU had a kid transfer in that they booted after he kicked someone in the head and RU didn't try to hide the reason why he was dismissed
Do you think Kelly did that ,Penn St dismissed him for it and then covered up why they booted him?
