Penn St dismisses 4 star NJ Freshman LB

From Union City to the middle of a cow pasture, he was never going to survive out there. Dumbass should have stayed home.

^^Went a tad overboard on this one. PSU_Nut is a pretty solid poster.
Yea I know and as I wrote it I knew he was actually solid most of the time. That being said, I take a little issue being lectured to on our board by a PSU fan about rules and ethics.

^ First off, we don't even know if academics is the reason he's getting kicked off of PSU. You don't even know if he did or didn't qualify. That's ridiculous. Secondly, a lot of people agreed Webb was given the boot because of grades. We've offered several guys that may or may not qualify in the past two years. And you're telling me We turned down Kelly the night of the PSU game, allowing him to commit to our in conference rival less than 24 hours later. Yeah, no. I don't buy. At worst, Flood would have accepted a commitment and comtinued to recruit his position if he didn't think the kid wouldn't qualify. No need to say RU didnt offer just b/c PSU gave him the boot

Don't know the reason kid was kicked out of the Nit program, so can only say he messed up and must learn from his mistakes.
As for where he will go, don't care .

Edit, see there's been talk about his qualifying, don't think that applies :
>"On Saturday morning the Penn State athletics department sent out a brief statement announcing freshman linebacker Daiquan Kelly has been dismissed from the program due to a violation of team rules.<"

Did you even read anything I wrote? I asked psu fans if he was gonna qualify and didn't say he didn't. I also said we have shown we will take risks on kids who seem to be putting in the effort. Fianlly, I didnt just day this today he got kicked out. I and others have said it multiple times this past year.

Agree that PSU Nut is one of the stand up posters from other sites. With that said, VKJ's contacts are as solid as they get. Read again, he did not say Kelly did not qualify at PSU, he asked the PSU guys if he did clear or not.
also- read between the lines in what VKJ said...it may not have been all about the transcripts as Flood has taken some kids and tried to work with them through this...but flood has to make a choice if he thinks the kid will be worth the effort. Sounds like this kid has a lot more baggage then just grades.
FYI...flood will NOT take a kid just to save the face of recruiting...

Not to muddy the waters any further, but I have a hard time believing that PSU (or any school) would let a freshman move in during the summer, before the start of classes, if there was any question about him qualifying. It just doesn't make sense.

If your friend since you were six was there for the conversation between Rutgers coaches and Kelly one of the following is true. The rutger coaches have no class for not doing this in private with the kid or if it was done in private your friend is slimy gossiping about on his players to you. Since it grade related as you applied he also violating Kelly privacy and the school should be notified. More the likely it probably just a rumor he heard and you embellished saying he was there. So which is it? I think it the latter because Rutgers has taken more then their fair share of academic risky kids like all schools do.

For the record I do believe it was Joe that was referenced in the email.
"School should be notified". GTFO. You come on here and put your 2 cents into every post but you act Iike a little bitch trying to get Rutgers in trouble when you're completely wrong and have no clue. You pulled the same crap when Flood went to Bergen Catholic for a camp. Mods it's time to ban this troll/beotch

He was qualified. You don't actually believe that story do you? When a school receives transcript they recieve them directly from the school. Seriously you think I kid just to games with tanscripts? Secondly even if he did show up with his transcript who was going to look at them and make a decision? I think the coaching staff would had a little more pressing things to do then evaluate a transcript. Do you think a academic advisor going to tell the kid no with out discussing and reviewing it with the coaching staff?

Yeah, whoever said that a player personally handed in their "official" transcripts is a bit clueless.

I wish I could have "hand delivered" my official transcripts...my GPA could have been 4.3

Are you serious ?? Dumb post,

Truth hurts doesn't it sllwlion [roll]
Could be he felt he would be able to get away with more under Franklin, after being told by Flood what to expect if
he came to RU.[winking]

I agree and I think Rutgers does turn away 4 star guys with character concerns. This tweet is NOT about Kelly, but, it highlights how Flood and Barthel think..

I know these kids are young and full of themselves while being recruited, but Committing to TTFP while on a RU visit is pretty obnoxious.

I think one of two things happened.

1. Rutgers saw him in that environment interacting with others and decided he was not a good fit. He may have gotten pissed and wanted to humiliate Rutgers by committing to TTFP on game day.

2. Franklin convinced him to do it to make a big splash about how a Rutgers visitor committed to TTFP on game day.

By being the 76th best player on the team when the coach needs to make room for scholarships for 10 high school kids.

Yeah, he was processed after two practices while some of the hail mary kids from O'Brien's first class still haven't see the field yet are still around.. Makes sense.

I was referring to the high school coach not Rutgers. If a high school coach is running his mouth about grades of players to his buddy certainly the high school should be notified. If you have kids would you be upset if a school employees was running his mouth about your kids grades. We have educational privacy rules for a reason. It had nothing to do with Rutgers.

I don't think vkj inferred that Kelly showed up at the game with his "official transcripts" like he was waiting for an admission decision.

These kids are not savvy like many of us are. Those around them are not either--including their coaches in many cases. Maybe the kid wanted to be at RU but was told for months that he needed to get his grades up or show more effort. Maybe out of some level of desperation he decided to look proactive and got an unofficial transcript from his guidance counselor with the idea he could convince Flood he was working? Maybe his mom said, "bring your grades to coach Flood or I'll kick your ass." That's a long way from suggesting that Kelly's academic privacy rights were violated.

VKJ never said that "this is the way it works." So the whole notion of it "not working that way" is silly. We all know it doesn't work that way. But that doesn't mean that the kid didn't show up with his grades in hand. And once there, someone on the RU staff took a glance and combined with his known character issues, suggested he make other plans.

And in the whole "i have an inside source" thing, vkj's are better than just about anyone's.

Big mouth Gonzalez next?

Certainly hope that UC's Gonzalez sticks with PSU. He is a very middling talent, don't expect him to be a difference maker on the Oline, The recruiting services initially overrated him but then started to catch up when his performance didn't match the hype. I hope that he wastes a scholly on PSU's roster for the next 5 years and gets his diploma.

And some people wonder why posters with actual connections to HS football, recruits, and the program have left in droves.

I have seen a previous poster who thought they had every connection in the world shout down a poster who actually works in the RU Admin but has never revealed it when arguing what was or was not said by JH. I have seen a guy who has a son who is one of our top recruits and leader get shot down that he doesn't know how these kids think. I see it over and over again.
So, I will tell you this, VKJ may not be sitting next too or running up to JH every time he sees her for inside info...lol but he has about as solid of inside info and connections as you can possible have.

And even he will tell you though, even having those types of connections, still does not mean that every bit of info you get straight from a kid even works out.

Creep State...

It was a set up all along. They took a kid that was willing to act like a jerk off and used him to pull a jerk off recruiting stunt. Their culture is bankrupt.

Instead, the proper thing would be to hold off accepting and announcing his commitment to some other time.
Nope, it's a sickness with that crowd. Weird, warped and creepy.

No inside sources, just a gut feeling. Somehow it's related to academics, perhaps his performance in the courses(s) he took this summer.

IMO I thought he was maybe pulling a 'Johhny Rockstar Football Hero' act over the summer, doing things that maybe one gets away with on HS because 'he's so good', but the PSU coaches probably tired of it quickly (and I doubt he wasn't warned a few times over) and probably figured if he was doing this stuff now, what was going to happen once everything really got underway?
