Penn State Rutgers FB A VERY Hot Ticket

It is not a rivalry. Don't want one! No thanks, keep walkin Creep State!

Creep State

"Penn State University Football
Urine Tossers

Behold: a group of fans so vile that the university had to adopt a resolution denouncing "negative cheering" all the way back in 2000. Loophole: They didn't tell the kids not to throw stuff! Thus students ......have pelted visiting players and band members with snowballs, mud balls, and bottles of urine. Lacking projectiles during the 2008 riots that followed a win over Ohio State, Penn fans uprooted small trees to hurl at police. And let's not forget the notorious 2007 incident in which a crowd of onlookers cheered as a student chased down two OSU fans and threw a full can of beer at their heads. Video of that assault was proudly posted on YouTube, tagged as "comedy.""

  • Um, excuse me, but I think that works both ways. I found this to be totally classless:

Out here in Happy Valley, lots of buzz about this game, even though they would never admit it. Prices will be very high for this game. Hundreds of dollars per ticket. Yikes!
Out there in the woods, they think that they are going to prove that last year's lucky win was for real. They think that they will put a real hurting on RU to make that point. What they ARE going to get is a B1G time butt kicking before a large home crowd. That will prove something ,won't it?

Taking a way too early look at position groups (see below, and let me know where you disagree), RU could win the game, HOWEVER, it will be your new QBs first road game and thus PSU will have a huge home field advantage. There have been many other QBs who haven't exactly played well under the lights at Beaver Stadium. Jimmy Clausen was probably the most shell shocked I can remember. But even JT Barrett had a poor game in comparison to the rest of the season.

Position Groups:
QB - PSU Advantage
RB - RU Advantage
WR - Even or RU Advantage (think you have better single player but we have better 2s and 3s)
TE - PSU Advantage
OL - RU Advantage
DL - PSU Advantage
LB - PSU Advantage
DB - PSU Advantage
K - No idea, we have a new kicker is yours good?

Position Groups that face each other:
PSU OL vs RU DL - Advantage RU
PSU DL vs RU OL - Advantage PSU
PSU WR/TE vs RU Secondary - Advantage PSU
PSU Secondary vs RU WR/TE - Advantage PSU
PSU Run O vs RU Run D - Advantage RU
PSU Run D vs RU Run O - Even

That's an interesting analysis. You may be selling our defensive groups too short. We have no idea on our kicker either. I also think you guys are not counting Tsimis, Agudosi, Peele and a couple of others for our WRs. If we can establish our run game, and Turay and Hamilton have Hack on the run, I like RU's chances. On the flip side, our new QB will have a lot to deal with in a loud and hostile crowd. If it comes down to FGs, we are in for a crap shoot.

Architectural Engineering
University Park, College of Engineering (A E)

PROFESSOR CHIMAY J. ANUMBA, Head, Department of Architectural Engineering

This major emphasizes the application of scientific and engineering principles to the planning, design, and construction of buildings and building systems. The goal of the program is to provide engineering graduates with the best education available for careers in the building professions. Graduates will have the ability to practice as registered professional engineers in a variety of areas, both public and private, related to the planning, design, construction, and operation of buildings and to assume a place of leadership in society.

Four options are available in the ten-semester major: the Construction option, which emphasizes building construction engineering and construction management; the Lighting/Electrical option, which emphasizes the design of lighting and electrical systems for buildings; the Mechanical option, which emphasizes the design of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems in buildings; and the Structural option, which emphasizes the analysis and design of building structural systems. Courses in architectural design are included in all options to give the engineering student an understanding of architectural design and its relation to engineering. Courses in engineering design are provided throughout the program. The design experience is culminated in a year-long capstone design course.

A limited number of undergraduate students in the B.A.E. program will be considered for admission to one of two integrated undergraduate-graduate degree programs. The first leads to the student earning both the B.A.E. and M.A.E. degrees and involves a graduate-level component in the capstone senior project. The second provides the student with the opportunity to earn both the B.A.E. and M.S. degrees and involves a research-oriented thesis in addition to the capstone undergraduate senior project. Students who are currently enrolled in the 7th semester of the B.A.E. degree program may apply to one of the two integrated programs and will be admitted following a positive review by the faculty committee on graduate admissions. To be considered for admission to either program, students must have attained a GPA of at least 3.0 and a grade of C or better in all classes listed as AE. A commitment from an AE graduate faculty member to serve as the student's M.S. thesis adviser is necessary for admission to the B.A.E./M.S. program. Students admitted to an integrated program must maintain a GPA in all classes used toward the M.A.E. or M.S. degree of at least 3.0. Students must complete a minimum of 172 credits for both the integrated B.A.E./M.A.E. and B.A.E./M.S. degree programs, 18 of which must be at the graduate level (500, 600 or 800-level). For the B.A.E./M.A.E. degree program, all of graduate credits are course credits. For the B.A.E./M.S. degree program, a thesis is required and six credits of thesis research (600 or 610) must be included in the candidate's academic course plan.

The professional degree, Bachelor of Architectural Engineering, is granted upon the satisfactory completion of the five-year program.

So you add a 2 year technical school knowledge to the basics of a civil engineering or architectural degree without fully completing either one of them. Yea, Idk about that...

I'm not sure how you get that impression of the degree by reading the description but if you do that's cool. All I know is after completing my degree I was qualified to take the FE/EIT and the ARE.

Penn St fans claiming they don't consider RU a rival then going on to explain why, makes me think that Nit is protesting too much to be
considered giving an honesty opinion.
Nits deny everything and this no rivalry ( in their minds) might be another denial by a Nit posting on his/her rival's board
All I say is: if it happens, it happens.
If RU and PSU's games are very competitive, it will.
Both schools don't have a B1G rival and unless Maryland gets in the act, the odds are they will be each other's rival.
Despite the denying, Nit fans feel RU is the closest thing they have for a rival asnd know : not one ether B1G school considers Penn St a rival.
Nit fans claim they are indifferent to RU., only because all the other B1G schools feel that way about being PSU's rival.
Also makes losing to RU ( in 2015) a bit easier to take for the Nit deniers
just another game---npot a rivalty----23-2??????come on REALLY?

Going back in the past :
When RU was playing your Nits was more of a D-1AA team than a major program for most of the match-ups and funded that way
until 2001.
But despite the usual lying deniers , like you, Onward State considers RU and PSU Rivals .
This article from last year proves Penn St considers Rutgers a rival and your protesting it proves you do as well,
but won't admit it ( par for the course with Nit fans :p).

Whine cry and carry on all you want doc, Penn St wants a rival and the Nit blog for Penn St.students considers RU a rival.
Might as well get used to it and everyone that follows college sports knows ;when a nit supporter says something isn't happening ,
odds are it will be a lie.

Is most of college sports (as you say) in your basement? Yes, ther'a some media that believes it's a budding rivalry because of the recruiting ground and proximity of schools. And perhaps it will be. You're talking about the Nit bloggers and I'm telling you what I hear from being on campus. No reason to lie about it but whatever floats your boat.

You confuse fans saying it's not a rivalry with us not thinking it won't be a competitive game. I think it will be a competitive game and the fans want this win as much as they want most wins on their schedule, but they want Ohio State and Michigan wins even more. That's just the reality. That is who we've played every year/other year for two decades and who the wins and losses have been measured against in all sports. Not there yet with Rutgers. No need to be sensitive about it.

Welp, glad you can speak for us PSU fans, but I can assure you that many PSU fans are not thinking of RU as rivals right now. Make no mistake, we want to beat RU and to that extent every game is important.

I'm not sure why you're so intent on creating a rivalry anyway, just play the games and win. If it develops naturally great but you can't really force it on a fanbase that doesn't see it. The hatred if you call it that by PSU fans comes mostly from comments made by your fanbase on boards and then again at the game, otherwise they were indifferent to RU. Just another team to play and yes, in their minds, beat.

Lastly, let's be honest here, most teams who have won championships tout past glory. The only people who complain about it are teams who have never reached that pinnacle of success. It doesn't matter that RU wasn't investing in athletics then, whose fault is that? I hear you guys talk about Louisville 2006 like it was the second coming so give me a break. we are not worried about Rutgers getting good because we've been playing with other "good" teams forever. Do you think that other teams are going to remain stagnant while only Rutgers ascends?!?
You guys seemed stagnant in the last ten or so years and became exposed while Schiano was building something from rock bottom. Then BOB took the job and seemed to start over rebuilding the dinosaur until he left for the NFL after what? 1 year?. Franklin sure talks and recruits a good game but can he coach? You can't live on an old MNC forever by talk without earning it on the field. Lets face it... this ain't our fathers PSU FB squad. The Beatles were great back then too!

It's interesting how perception works sometimes. I don't disagree with most of what you said other then OB was here for 2 years, not 1, but I looked at the data and for the last 10 years, PSU's record was 89 and 38 and 5-3 in bowls, ranked in the top 25 4 times, and top 10 3 times, with a 5 and 3 bowl record. Rutgers OTOH over the same time frame was 79 and 49, 6-3 in bowl games ranked in the top 25 once finishing the season at #12 in 2006. I think this might be the essence of why some PSU fans are reluctant to say it's a rivalry right now. I think it's fair to say that the last 10 years have been the high water mark for Rutgers on the football field while for Penn State, well, we've been stagnant and yet PSU has still outperformed RU.

The test for RU and PSU going forward is do you/we get better or worse. I think the general consensus is PSU is trending up right now with Franklin. What would you say the consensus is for RU with Flood? If RU can keep up (recruiting & on-field results) with PSU then I think the rivalry will become undeniable. I hope it does. I think it will be good for both schools.

I'm going on record as saying Jason is up there with the best PSU posters. Kudos, and thanks.

I think our DL is going to be quite good and would call that position group a push. Other than that I pretty much agree with everything you said. Going to be a tough environment for our new QB for a first away game start.

If our OL isn't improved from last years debacle, we are looking at another year of close games and a win total of around 6-7... If they are improved, then 9 wins might be possible with a few more blowouts!

PSU tier 1 rivalries Ohio State, Michigan, Mich St.
Tier 2 Maryland, Rutgers, Wisconsin and Iowa
Tier 3 the rest of the conference.

Just one fans opinion!

OSU does not consider PSU a rival. They have two rivals now, that team from up north and now MSU.

PSU fans want OSU to recognize them as a rival but it's not there yet. OSU fans just don't talk about PSU and I listen to OSU fans every day at work.

agreed. Michigan is OSU's rival, plain & simple. doesn't even matter that Michigan is poor right now...it'll always be an important game. If PSU starts competing for Big Ten championships and beats OSU, they'll start talking about us......just like MSU. otherwise, OSU wouldn't give a crap about MSU. but since they've turned a corner recently, beat OSUin the 2013 Big Ten Championship, they're on OSU's radar....that's all.

the fact is, PSU just doesn't have a true rival. honestly, it should be Pitt. we should play them every year. both PA schools, a balanced historical W-L record, and Pitt has a strong (albeit, waning) tradition/prestige.

I get why it makes sense for Rutgers......no competing Jersey schools, we're the closest big named school out there, and the fans hate us. But for Penn State, it just doesn't make that much sense (at least right now) for exactly the opposite reasons i gave for Pitt. The fact of the matter is, if Rutgers starts beating us a couple times (1 random game ain't gonna do it), starts taking a few PA recruits (that we offered), then it could (and probably would) change things......and I can't deny it wouldn't be a cool thing.

rivalry or not...Sept 19th will be rockin!

Barring injury to a couple of key players such as Hack, I see PSU being the favorite in 10 games this coming season. Yes, their OL is still a question but their OOC is ridiculously easy, they have 8 games in the state of Pennsylvania, and they lucked out with their crossover game being against struggling teams.

If I were a Nit fan I'd consider anything less than 9 wins a poor season.

An 8-4 regular season is my floor for this team based on a perceived easier schedule than last year and the 2nd year in this system combined with better depth. Temple is going to be better than a lot of people are expecting I think, they pretty much return everyone from last year, only 6 seniors last season. I think we are going to know a lot about our team after that game.

w/a bowl game, 8-5? or 9-4 as your floor?

8-5 would be quite dissapointing. a 1 win bump from 2014 ain't gonna cut it with me (or most fans/recruits). I realize they're not out of the woods w/their OL (plus no Ficken), but with the guys returning and our weak schedule.....need a 2 win bump from last year.
