Per Keith Sergeant--No Open Practice for fans/Less Media Access

I could see this as being a year one thing before the offense is unveiled or continuing. Depends on preference.

I would rather win more games than have better media access. I can't remember what year it was but Duggan broke down each play in a scrimmage. Formation and all. Some reporters can't be trusted.

I don't see why the Giants and Jets , even high schools don't employ the same media blackouts. I guess the media can then refuse to cover the games.

In Webster's under the definition of "distractions":

The Star Ledger

And Sergeant is "shocked, shocked" at the development.

That way under Flood and he was p*ssed.

Whine though they may, this makes perfect sense in Year 1. There's no way Ash is going to let the media get the scoop on the return of Chas Dodd. :)

Do you think Coach Ash conferred with Greg Schiano on this issue? Would be interesting to see a survey of programs and whether they do some form of open practices? I'd start with Mike Leach at Washington State, a free-thinker if there is one among college coaches.

Good for Ash - screw them. As one poster said, Duggan used to post too many details about practices. The Star Ledger used to crucify us. Kids don't read newspapers anymore and the news is more timely and accurate from posters on this board. We're in the Big now, so we will have plenty of media coverage. The press needs us more than we need them. Let the press prove their worthiness and earn the right to be knighted, just like the players!

Seeing a practice and, on national signing day, hearing the head coach discuss new recruits were once basic benefits that TD Club members enjoyed.

Perfectly fine with it - there's only so much coach speak and BS you can take anyway - the real interesting stuff happens on the field in the regular season.

Please. We must really think a lot of ourselves to think B1G Coaches need to "spy" on Rutgers practices to get an upper hand. LMAO
They don't have the slightest interest or concern.
Maybe in a few years we will earn that level of respect.

at least one player, Myles Nash, has tweeted "Great Move" in response to this.

If the players and coaches are happy with it, who are we, or the media, to argue it.

Right.. like Bill Belicheck and the Pats did not need to cheat.

New coach, new offense, new defense.. and you don't think opponents would like to know more about what rutgers will bring t the game this season. I am soooo glad you have nothing to do with such decisions.

It's about winning games not giving NJ.com, etc all access. A lot of top programs do this exact thing. If we want to be a top program than we need to start acting like it.

Our team is pretty much a total guessing game at this point. Didn't Washington's coach say that they really don't know what to expect when we play? If so, keep it that way.

This is from the Bill Parcells school of coaching - circle the wagons - us against the world.

really don't care about fan or media access. If there is something worthwhile to report - the media will have it.

In all honesty I'm torn. I enjoy camp reports but understand with everything that's happened in the past year, the negative slant some news media outlets are always looking for, and all the changes the team is working thru limiting access may be the best thing right now.

This never bothered me, and I could never really understand why it bothers anyone in the first place, to be totally honest.

Same here. Who wants to watch practice anyway? It's like taking a shower with your socks on. And I could care less of media access. Reading about scrimmages is boring. Bring on the OT's!!

Lol! Smart for Coach especially with a fluid Qb situation but for all you sanctimonious Internet Police be prepared for alot of OT's and a really dull board.

Great idea!

It will make players relax and not worry about some idiot fan tweeting because a QB made an incomplete pass, a WR dropped the ball or a player missing a tackle. You get the idea.

Also, it brings bad luck to a team when they open up their practice.

It's very sad how Sargent is whining about this . Deal with it . I am old and read the newspaper , but most people don't .
Media doesn't do ru any favors. Good for ash.
