Given last year and the utter disgrace that is this season, what’s the rationale that Pike deserves to keep his job?

Yes…..I understand he’ll be here till 2030 because he’ll hold us hostage for the $3.5 million a year Hobbs promised.

Brandon Knight is responsible for player rotations. He did a lousy job today. We also played without an urgency in the second half. Basically this team is more talented than Iowa but we were out coached and out hustled. Bad sign for the rest of the season.

People blamed Karl Hobbs for incompetent offense.

A) he’s not holding anyone hostage.
B) he has proven to be a very good coach over the course of his career.
C) Rutgers owes him a lot of money
D) this season was a failed experiment. Given the chance to do it again everyone would still take Dylan and Ace.
E) NIL funds were not there for this year. Schiano didn’t have much either. Pike needs to embrace NIL (Like Greg did the past few
months) to get the right roster.
F) 2023-24 Pike got screwed with 2 starters leaving in May and the Mag Injury.
G) 2015-2018 he improved every year. 2019-2023 he built tournament quality teams. The past two seasons were unfortunate and a step backwards with departures and injuries. Progress isn’t linear.

He’s not leaving, unless he wants to.

B) False
C) owes but didn’t earn
D) definitely tape them w a competent coach
E) we have more Nil on the floor then almost every team when we play
F) stop ! Mag is a role player at best he got screwed because he is a bad coach
G) he had success w a core group of players even in those years he cost us the sweet 16 and a tournament but with his incompetence.
H) tonight he played a hurt team with out its best player and a road win all season. He got run over . Can’t inbound the ball and his plays out of time outs are absolutely abysmal.
I) no talent and inability to run a offense
J) lack of ball and player movement
K) effort
Bye bye Pike

Cool talk to actual real money influencers you know around the program and rally them.. wait do you actually know any real money influencers around the program? Again I am not the dude to ask after every shit loss where these folks heads are at but I don know that the ones I know last I heard support Pike.

He’ll be gone long before then. This happened with Eddie Jordan too and it snowballed quickly. There is a large cost to having the RAC be a morgue too. He gets one more year IMO. He’s pretty classy and I don’t think he’s stupid. He must know he’s in over he’s head and hopefully they can work something out.

Oh I have and please talk to the ones you know because there is zero legit reason to defend Pike at all.

It will be a morgue next season. No big ten talent outside of Lathan Grant and possibly Dortch but they need another 1 probably 2 more years of development.
Piles program is dead and he will leave us worse then he found us

It’s impossible to leave it worse than he found it but the next guy will get us to that level no doubt.

I agree. I actually don’t care if they all leave…except for Pikes record of replacing players with even lesser talent.

Oh no it’s not! No top flight recruit will come here. The companies who partnered with us and Ace/Dylan will never pay for another player to play here. He has Zero big ten players on the roster next year. Has no long term program depth.

Historic season (missing the tournament with 2 NBA players).
So No top recruits moving forward
Lost Nil companies
No roster depth or talent

It’s going to get worse and yes then he found it!

I don’t know. He did ok with talented players with heart.
Agree but they were always a defense-first team. Sandfort and Nix are offensive players. With some exceptions like Ron Harper, offense comes to die here. Even Cam struggled at times here, but seemed to do much better with a structured offense and player accountability. Of course, UConn had much better players surrounding him too

You don’t remember Eddie Jordan lol. Impossible to be worse. Like zero chance.

Cam statistically wasn’t really better at UConn and if so very marginally and that was surrounded by nba players. That’s a misnomer that people like to quote but it’s not really true. Accountability I agree with.

Listen tonight was weird. He sat Dylan a lot in the first half and gave ACE breaks every 4 minutes. What happened ? Our team played some of our best offensive basketball and finally feeding the hot guy , Acuff and Zach , and actually extended the 3-5 point lead to 9 at the half as it should have been 11 but JMike gave an easy layup to their small point guard. We had like 13,assists on 18 made baskets at one point . So we shot lights out but with really little help from ACE and Dylan and put up 42 points.

Then instead of jumping on Iowa and not letting Sandfort and Josh Dix get revived up again , Pike doesn’t call an out of bounds play where we are under our own basket , and we throw away the ball to them twice and have a5 second call. That is all on Pike and he failed miserably tonight. He let them make up the 9 point lead and never put his team in position to put a foot on Iowa’s throat. Then he must have forgotten how everybody other than ACE and Dylan played in the first half and tried to rely on Dylan and ACE to ratchet up the offense. Dylan arguably had his worst game of the year but his lack of energy offensively and even worse defensively . Ace also was not active enough offensively but even worse defensively. Iowa ran almost the same play with screens and pin downs to get Sandfort and Dix looks and then allowed them and everybody else to drive to the rim unabated. Pike didn’t change his defensive look the entire second half. No trap , 1/3/1 or anything to get them out of rhythm and just allowed them to run the same stuff over and over very efficiently. When they missed , they got the rebound since our effort was just lacking all night on the glass.
Everybody is mentioning it was effort but to me it was allowing your team to get outcoached and not coming out after halftime with a killer instinct. That is all on Pike. Granted Dylan and ACE were subpar all night and didn’t have drive , effort , intensity for reasons unknown, but what a fail not getting his team to realize how important this game was coming out of the half. That is where game was lost. Coach has to take the blame and the finger has to be pointed straight at him. He is 25 games in and still doesn’t know what rotations are working and need more time and which guys just have to sit. That is a coaching failure. I am a big Pike supporter but I have to call it like I see it and he has done a terrible job with this team. The team is playing better now than they were a month or 2 ago and games are being lost because coaching adjustments are not being made. Huge indictment.

"Very good coach over the course of his career" You're delusional. He is 9 games over ,500 in 9 years at Rutgers, 40 games under .500 vs. Big 10 competition, and has one post season win. That's very good? LOL.

Listen Chow you sound like an idiot. What did Jordan do his last year ? Now without real BIG 10 recruits he developed a culture of tough defense , rebounding and teams knew they would be in a fight all game. So take away the first 3 years like any reasonable person would ,,what is the record ? Then throw in the Big 10 has been the top 2-3 conferences in the country for the last 9 years and we were a dumpster fire when Eddie got canned. Even you should be able to use common sense. Pike has failed this year , not making coaching adjustments in game , not mastering his rotations and not getting his defense fixed because he failed in the transfer portal. It sucks.

His career B1G winning percentage is .400. The last three years he’s .407.

Just reread my post and look in he mirror when you call someone an idiot, and a good basketball coach doesn't need 4 years to rebuild a program. This isn't football where you need to develop 22 starters. Pike is becoming embarrassing to Rutgers and is the laughing stock of the college basketball community. Look at his record and just watch them play. Learn the game.

There is no rational, and from what I've read here, his buyout gets cut in half in 2027. Considering what we'll be making by then in TV money his buyout will be chicken feed.

It wasn't about the players around him. It was about the way they used him. Pike almost never ran stuff for him. He might have even been the best player on that team, and I think he was MVP of the final four.

How is it that Pike has proven to be a good coach on his career? Taking a Rutgers team to the NCAA for first time in 30yrs?
It’s sad every year that we have discussions about his teams run ZERO offense, can’t manage and inbound play, and his substitutions are out of whack. This year is not an anomaly!!!

We just had better TEAM talent that overcame bad coaching to win games.
The comparison to Schiano is eerily similar. 2006 that guy had immense talent that overcame bad Gameday coaching that has persisted though out his career.

If we had a coach like Pitino we would be sitting at 18+ wins right now with the SAME roster

If we had Pitino as coach with the same roster, illnesses and injuries, we’d have 20 wins right now.
If he was our coach last night he would have needed to be physically restrained.

Here’s the difference Pike gave you hope and then returned you to Jordan levels while souring big time recruits on the school. Pike also destroyed corporate NIL relationships leaving a hole in his wake. I remember EJ and Pike is doing way more harm than good

Sorry we are all upset but this is crazy. We are nowhere close to Jordan level. At least pike showed it’s possible to win here.

Right so give you hope and tickle your mind with possibilities of sweat 16 and NCAA magic. Talks of remodeling the RAC. NBA prospects . The excitement through the roof.

Only to fail miserably at his job and have it all disappear in a historic season that will have us as the laughing stock all tournament long.

So is it worse to be awful or provide hope and then prove to all big time recruits not to go to Rutgers? The team next year will be at EJ levels, we lost all big recruits, corporate donors, remodel, and became a larger national embarrassment story.
