Pike Enthusiasts

Right so give you hope and tickle your mind with possibilities of sweat 16 and NCAA magic. Talks of remodeling the RAC. NBA prospects . The excitement through the roof.

Only to fail miserably at his job and have it all disappear in a historic season that will have us as the laughing stock all tournament long.

So is it worse to be awful or provide hope and then prove to all big time recruits not to go to Rutgers? The team next year will be at EJ levels, we lost all big recruits, corporate donors, remodel, and became a larger national embarrassment story.
Listen no one is arguing that this year is not a complete shit show and major disappointment and that is in part of Pike. However the other absolute forward looking worse cases aren’t true. We could have a few top 150 players returning next year, we have at least one other top 150 player coming in and we are very much in it for a few top 150 kids for next years class. We lose all of them then your no big ten talent statement can hold some water. The national embarrassment story line is true but for right now. Yes articles will be written leading up to the tournament about the big miss but guess what shortly after articles will be written about two top lottery picks both playing at Rutgers. The pain from this year will live on much longer for the members of this board not the general public. The corporate sponsors were a Bailey Harper thing not a Rutgers thing. On the upside we will have rev share to play with next year (new upside) and my guy tells me Pike will approach NIL outreach for donors differently as well. We are looonng way from Eddie Jordan days.

If we had Pitino as coach with the same roster, illnesses and injuries, we’d have 20 wins right now.
That's completely absurd lol.
Sorry we are all upset but this is crazy. We are nowhere close to Jordan level. At least pike showed it’s possible to win here.
RUDivision is almost definitely not serious lol, he's been posting this over and over and also that Pike will be (not that he wants him to be, that he WILL BE) fired after this season. If you're engaging with him, you've already lost.

Pitino definitely would be in the tournament with this roster.

I don’t think Pike is a good coach and never should have received his extension . You can just watch Pike prove me right game after game and no reason to engage with me. I see the end an am willing to do the right thing and move on. You can pray that it works out and allow this University to fail.

The only difference is I know we have to move on you HOPE it works out.

Hope is not a strategy

Not engaging is harder than it sounds, as evidenced by the fact that...

I don't even agree with that, given the roster problems combined with the injuries, but it is a lot more reasonable of a claim than that he would be currently at least 20-5.

Strategy? We're posting on the message board. You posting that Pike WILL BE FIRED after the season doesn't make it more likely to happen, you understand that right?

Not in part 100 percent ALL on Pike. Umm is true . The only two you could argue are potential Big ten talent are Lathan (offensively) and Grants athleticism. Neither are guaranteed to return and odds are Lathan is gone first. One Top 150 recruit? lol Gavin coming back???? As far as the others are you watching spikes guys quit on him?? I know the world saw it and that means those kids were “in on” for recruiting see it as well. Maybe Pike can bring them to a sold out crazy RAC game?? Nope, those are gone too.

Corporate sponsor relationships are HUGE in the new CBB world. Corporate sponsors will rule CBB moving forward and we just lost 2 big ones. Rev share is split amongst all sports and how much do you think BB will get?

Your guy? Tell your guy thank you for the Pike insight but it won’t matter because he’s gone. Tell your guy rewatch last nights game and ask him what one singular aspect of Pikes coaching last night proves he can coach at this level?

He had more talent, less key injuries, more players available, he was at home, and he could not even run a simple inbounds play all night long.

Typo gut not guy. Let’s see the level quit the rest of the season. Some on this board were praising grit in other games this past season including as recent as Maryland. Young men can get emotional and caught up and last night was the bad kind for sure sports has always had an element of emotion and momentum or lack there of. And yes rev share is not only Rutgers thing but the wanted additional 2m should help especially compared to where we are now (outside of the Harper/Ace money which were separate). It’s Pike ship for at least another year so either he will figure it out or he won’t and be let go. I am rooting for him to figure it out.

You do realize Pitino took the worst program in the country over the last 20 years and in one year made them a bubble team and in his second year a top 10 team? Yes I know he brought in his talent but his ability to coach would have had Grant and Dortch on the floor from the first game. He would identified the 8 guys who were willing to play his brand of ball. He would have called out Ace or Dylan for lack of hustle or commitment. Pike can’t even carry Pitino Ties into the gym let alone coach with him. What is are starting lineup? Does Pike even know who his guys are?

We can agree to disagree all good. You can look back at every thing I have said and just let Pike steer us off the cliff.

Pikes coaching
Does not run college offense
Can not inbound the ball
Bad out of timeouts
Horrible rotations
Poor Ft shooting
I said Pike costs us a sweet 16
Pike lost us a play in game
Pike cost us a tournament bid
Pike historic miss w 2 NBA lottery picks

That’s a resume that deserves to be fired.

Ppl try and create excuses for his awful coaching but the reality is it’s over.

You can hope and pray it will get better .

lol! Artistic licensing on what we choose to read and don’t! Well done!

Is there any stat or spreadsheet that can show how great of a job Pike is doing? I know the eye test says he is just an awful coach. Maybe another luck stat or games coached on a inclement weather day?

I never said he was doing a great job, and the roster problems are also mainly his fault, but people way overestimate how much blood even the best coach could get out of this stone imo.

Bring Hurley or Pitino in here, give them the same roster and injury/sickness luck, and maybe we're on the bubble right now. But that's not a given and we sure as **** aren't 20-5.

All fair ! Would Grant and Dortch have played from game 1? Would they have sat Dylan or Ace and called them out for lack of discipline and effort ? Would we have a set rotation? Would we run a ball movement offense? Would they get our shooters open looks? Would they be able to inbound the ball? Would they run a 2 man game with Ace and Dylan forcing teams to choose who to double and not?? There are so many simple things Pike does awful that add up to loses. Both of those coaches would have this team comfortably in the tournament

Ok so we won’t engage in conversation because it’s not a spreadsheet or data dump and I forget you can not swim in that pool.

Those responses show you haven’t watched or do not watch college basketball broadly. All good I appreciate the answers.

Fluoxetine has always had blinders on when it comes to assessing Pike.

A) he’s not holding anyone hostage.
B) he has proven to be a very good coach over the course of his career.
C) Rutgers owes him a lot of money
D) this season was a failed experiment. Given the chance to do it again everyone would still take Dylan and Ace.
E) NIL funds were not there for this year. Schiano didn’t have much either. Pike needs to embrace NIL (Like Greg did the past few
months) to get the right roster.
F) 2023-24 Pike got screwed with 2 starters leaving in May and the Mag Injury.
G) 2015-2018 he improved every year. 2019-2023 he built tournament quality teams. The past two seasons were unfortunate and a step backwards with departures and injuries. Progress isn’t linear.

He’s not leaving, unless he wants to.
The biggest negatives in regard to Pikiell is the inability to win conference games especially in recent years at the RAC.

Sorry we are all upset but this is crazy. We are nowhere close to Jordan level. At least pike showed it’s possible to win here.
You don't know the worst of it and I liked Jordan. He had no discipline, no one went to class and we lost badly. That was a disaster, he had no control at all and Pike came in and turned it around. Like I said he still has a lot of earned good will that will last awhile with the board.

So because he has nice kids he has earned goodwill? I guess the board missed the problem athletes when they were here or still here? He is hired to WIN games. He has fallen off a cliff with no bottom in sight .

However, Pair them with Pike and they’d suck too. They be left to entirely create for themselves with no designed player or ball movement and no accountability for shitty passes, screens, cuts, etc
No they wouldn’t suck. These are mature smart basketball players that would be good anywhere. But you’re right that they can flourish in that system/culture. Iowans are different they tend to be smart and tough.

Who said anything about " nice" kids?? I said Jordan and coaches before him had no control and had big academic issues, never went to class etc. If you don't think that's one of the key issues the board considers in a coach you're uninformed . He's not just hired to win games, RU is not some win at all costs type of school -- check the resumes of the board members. We're lucky to have had people like brown and now Towers on there who care about athletics. Pikes not a Schiano but they loved the job he did not embarrassing them like those before him. So yes he has built up good will that will carry him a bit linger.

Perfect! The board is doing a tremendous job. No president , No AD, 2 failing athletics programs. If we are not careful in the next five years we will be out of power 4 athletics. Hope the board will be happy then.

You better just hope we have people like Towers on the board, you have NO idea how bad it can be for athletics here.Thank god for Schiano and his influence, don't wish for what you may get.

I see a scenario where eventually we throw in the towel. The amount of money needed to keep the lights on and compete in big time sports could be way too high. The onus will turn to fans.

I wish we get a Gov, President and board who actually understand.

Are the blue bloods or big time collegiate schools bad Academia’s?? No

The board and individuals who don’t understand how collegiate athletics help a university are lost .

Brandon Knight is responsible for player rotations. He did a lousy job today. We also played without an urgency in the second half. Basically this team is more talented than Iowa but we were out coached and out hustled. Bad sign for the rest of the season.
I'm not sure anyone is responsible for player rotations. They are so ridiculous that there are times I think guys just get up off the bench and put themselves in like my men's league. How else is Hayes 6th man at this point in the season.

Nope, being in the BIG has been monumental for RU. OVER 78000 APPs for Rutgers new brunswick is unreal. The academic reputation of the BIG will never be given up.

He was horrific as well you’re right. We have such a wonderful history of coaches.
But I'm sure you noticed,he became the AD at Virginia,a school that values academics. Bad coach but a guy that fit a certain poll that great colleges love.

That's great...how much are we going to ask NJ residents to pay?

Not sure how accurate this is.....
The Garden State lost 20,820 tax filers and $5.27 billion in adjusted gross income (AGI) during that 12-month period, the foundation said

Not to make this too political.....and i am on the other side.....what happens when a political candidate for governor says he/she is going to go through the state with a fine tooth comb and get rid of wasteful spending and lower taxes. Do you think it is going to be OK for NJ tax payers to be paying $50,000 for a backup center for the Rutgers basketball team?

Does the B1G have anything to do with that or is that purely a result of RU changing its app process? Didn't these numbers just sky rocket more than a decade after the B1G

Given last year and the utter disgrace that is this season, what’s the rationale that Pike deserves to keep his job?

Yes…..I understand he’ll be here till 2030 because he’ll hold us hostage for the $3.5 million a year Hobbs promised.

He’s earned it. Huge many huge wins. Sold out RAC. Trips to Vegas, garden. Program hasn’t been in a better place.

Plus we have no AD to make that decision. lol

But he’s earned two years to get the team back to where it was.
