Pike must go

If you think this year is bad, wait until next. He must go. Oh btw - Kirk C got a contract extension. But but we can’t fire pike because we have - lame duck president and ad. Stuff can still happen folks.
It will be morgue next year. It’s all freshman and sophomores, many not highly rated. He would need a competent coach to recruit 5 starters out of the portal for us to keep us out of last place. He’d still probably mess it up.

I
This has to be the worst team that pike has had. 1-17 in B10 play this year? Amazing.

We already beat PSU lol.

That's what I don't get!? We looked much better just...what...three weeks ago? Not great but not this. I really do think the Dylan illness was just the setback that made the whole thing collapse

Good to hear. It will be easy to pick up seats cheap on Seat Geek.

Yeah I'm sad to say it but the Pikiell era is over. I'll always appreciate what he did here but there's no coming back from this.
Yep. I realize our situation isn’t the easiest to find comparisons for — I mean only so many programs have had two top 5 picks at the same time, and we’ll obviously end up as the first to not make the tourney

But even removing the embarrassment of that fact from the equation, how many coaches build a program from the ashes, completely bottom it out (…somehow next year might be even worse) and then build it right back up?

It doesn’t really happen. And in an era of free agency, “what have you done for me lately” type thinking — it’ll be even harder to overcome the stain of this season

Pike is finished

Here’s the issue - no one will give any NIL for next year while pike is coach. But we know pike is toast since everyone will transfer out after this year and no one worth anything will be coming.
Pike raised the floor for a FEW years and made the RAC fun again for a FEW years. But so did Bob Wenzel.

And not counting the Harper/Ace deals the NIL was just rolling in prior to this season? I know you are talking all definitive like you are some authoritative source but news flash the few real money folks I am fortunate to have come across are not abandoning Pike or Greg as of yet.

Would you just please STFU?

He gets 2 more seasons due to massive buyout. He aint walking away voluntarily from this kinda money.

Anyway, next 2 seasons will be ugly but when we do get a new coach due to how the portal gives you the ability to fund a solid team each season, if the coach is good he can get us back towards pike’s ceiling of the bubble in the first year or two.

What blue chip in their right mind would want to play for a coach that can't figure out how to construct a roster around them? Even worse, while his assistants have ties to players they have no coaching skills so who is going to get them better. The writing was on the wall with Pikiell since the Notre Dame play in loss. You could see it towards the end of that season start down this path. Too many, including it appears our prior AD, had way too tinted Scarlet Colored Glasses.

????

That was the year we went 12-8 and finished 4th in the conference!

This is reality, but probably aligns well with new President and AD. That assumes, however, that the President is supportive of college athletics (in its new form) AND the AD is competent at the job of being an AD at a Power 4 institution. WE ARE! Rutgers!*

*Which means we have a 50/50 chance to screw all of this up further.

I don't know if that was the year but I think that was it. However, we finished in a 3 way tie for 4th with Iowa and Ohio State. Reason was we tailed off at the end of the regular season. It was the year that we tailed off at the end of that season and thanks to Jacob Young in Minnesota we got enough to get in. Then we bailed early from the Big Ten tourney and could not figure out how an inbounds works in a play in game despite numerous tries. It was all starting to become clear then. We had a coaching issue developing.

They will choose a president who hates big time sports, and the AD will come from the Patriot League.

We "bailed early" in the sense that we had a double bye and started in the quarters against a red hot Iowa.

Jacob Young wasn’t on that team. We also played Minnesota in January and lost that year.

You are right. Though we did lose to Minny that year. We lost to DePaul, Lafayette, Seton Hall, and UMass early the year in the classic Pikiell needs 2 months to get a lineup together. That was the year we also lost 5 of our last 7 including the tourney. If there was a positive note, we did win our last two regular season games to eek into the tourney.

Serious question for you. Do you know how much money we'd owe him to fire him after this season?

It's not happening. And it has nothing to do with not having a president/AD.

Better to just accept it now and hope for surprise teams every 2-3 seasons going forward.
