Pike outcoached. Again. Disgusted.

The game has passed Pike by. A coach that wants defense and rebounding before offense is a dinosaur in college basketball today. Good offensive talent will not want to play here. I think its why Bennett retired from UVA, same type of coach.

I’m wondering if he ever actually was “hot” 🤷‍♂️
You have to know absolutely nothing to hire him. We had 5 turnovers just trying to inbound the ball under our own basket. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Without those turnovers we probably win. Knight stinks worse than Pike.

Remember when people used to say Pike taught rebounding. Pike is being exposed.
How can you rebound when for 5 minutes we played with a lineup where we had 6’7 guy and essentially 4 guards
His lineup s suck and he has absolutely no feel for the game

Coming out of that timeout at the end and turning it over is all you need to know. Jarper taking 3s when he got to the basket with ease. Bailey not touching the ball. 5 sec calls on inbound and having inbound ball stolen. The list goes on and on.

Forgot to add that it took 35 min to figure out we need to clear out for Dylan. So frustrating

They rebounded ok. They just played soft. Every 5050 ball went Iowa's way.

They are young and you need to go through things at that age but one thing you can't live with is lack of effort.

They thought they were going to just roll out and win the second half because they won the first half. The coaches didn't get through to them they weren't tough enough to understand it.

Ultimately it's on the coaches but if you are a player on that team you are having a long look in the mirror and saying you fvcked your coach.

Or maybe they don't care. They are all making some money, Ace and Dylan are multi millionaire's about to have FU you money before they turn 19...as fans we you don't want to think it's possible but maybe they just don't give af.
I've been thinking that for a while, but after tonight, I convinced they just don't GAF.

It's a harsh thing to say, and I didn't want to believe it, but after tonight, it's pretty obvious.

What is driving them? They are here because they have to be. They are millionaires already and about to sign for tens of million more. Winning this game means little to them. None of that is going to change whether they win lose or draw.

This is a short six month blip in their lives on the way to what will likely be long careers in pro basketball. Would have been great if it worked but it's not a problem that it didn't. Nothing changes.

Too much, too fast can kill peoples drive to excel.

Would have been nice if it worked but it's fine that it didn't. They are millionaires now and will be extremely wealthy in two months.

Contrast that with a guy like Sanfordt...the college ball experience is everything for him and has to work hard on his stock to make the nba

We are not upper echelon but we are throwing enough money at this program and Big ten finances to be better than we are

Ace and Dylan will both be on campus for less than a calendar year. Amd both are making a ton of $$ with crazy money on the near horizon. How much vested interest in Rutgers and this season could they possibly have.
The same can be said about someone like pJ Hayes or Martini. They DGAS about Rutgers. They likely got paid some stupid amount of money, stink for 14 weeks, leave and likely never return. We probably bought Noah Fernandes a ton of diapers and baby formula last year to average like 8 ppg and get his shit stuffed twice a game.

Same type yes, but Pike couldn’t carry the ballbag for Bennett.

Rutgers needs to come to some agreement with Pike the end of the season, and if he doesn't step down and accept a buyout then he needs to be fired. He CANNOT coach this team next year period.

There’s like a 99.9% chance he’s coaching here next year and the 0.1% is probably much worse. People just need to accept it.

Isn't Martini a jersey kid who wanted to play here, was named captain and is playing better now than he was a couple of weeks ago when it really got important? And filling in for our monster 5 now that he is out and giving good effort?

He has had a good handful of games recently I will give him that. He stunk in November, December and most of January. He is a Princeton kid don't fool yourself into thinking he's coming back to alumni events here and giving RU money. He's a Tiger.

Unfortunately these players are all mercenaries these days. Really hard to build any connection to that as a fan. Especially when some kid making more than me wants me to fund his NIL. Much different from when you played. There was a legit connection both ways it seemed

Martini is limited. He is doing everything he can. It’s just not enough in the B1G. Especially if you ask him to play the 5 spot.

And what exactly does that have to do with his play recently for our team? He cares. You can see that.I don't expect a 1 year rental who's got a 4:tear degree to bend a knee and kiss Rutgers soil

This. I believe we would have been better off if they had never come to Rutgers.

Why is it so hard at Rutgers for sport teams to have coaching staffs and players that can successfully compete in the B1G Ten?

What coaching is he really doing? The roster sucks. So fail on player evaluation. We don't run an offense. It's playground basketball. So fail on x's and o's. And the same issues come up every game with no team or player improvement. This team is as bad now as game 1. So failure on player development. I don't get the love.
You forgot not making adjustments on defense and making inbounding the ball an adventure.

We reward minimal success and leave bad coaches in place when they don’t deserve to be here. We don’t operate as a Big ten school. Anyone lobbying for Pike to stay or defend his abysmal season are the problem.

If you want to be successful hold the coaches accountable.

If Pike and this team played for ANY other school in the Big Ten he would be fired the day after the season ended. Facts

Not really. Amount owed matters to all schools. But it’s true, football and basketball coaches are paid and extended far above their performance and aren’t held accountable. Winning doesn’t matter here.

Do not blame the roster. Tonight I was convinced it is coaching. We went from 5 down to up 11, most of the time without Dylan & Ace. Up 9 at half, then he puts the original starting lineup in to start the next half. We quickly lose the lead. The lack of Substitution Sense if baffling sometimes .
Iowa has its worst roster in a decade, but run offensive sets that average college talent can run. Easy layups on cuts, backdoors & inbound passes. Our inbounds plays are horrendous. Even the safety valve backcourt lobs were a disaster. At one point the crowd cheered on a successful inbound. Not for a bucket off the inbound. Just for getting the ball in.
I was optimistic coming back from Vegas seeing this team go to the final minute against 2 teams that are now in the top 8. That seems like ages ago from what I witnessed tonight.
Perhaps next year’s team will be better, there were signs of it at the end of the first half tonight. Maybe bring in another assistant that specializes in offense.

Will agree to disagree on any school keeping him after this season. But we definitely agree on the rest
