Pike is a problem. It’s year 8 or 9 and he still has issues filling out the roster with B1G players. You have Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey and still have issues figuring out how to win. As great as 2019-2022 were, this is an issue

Center is the least of our problemsIf we had NIL we would have had a center.
In this day and age you can’t buy filet mignon with hamburger funds.Center is the least of our problems
Pike doesn’t do a good job of identifying B1G players. I’m not talking about an all league player. Just some guys who are serviceable. It’s not difficultIn this day and age you can’t buy filet mignon with hamburger funds.
The other supporting cast is all 3 star, low and maybe mid major talent. Martini was a bench player til last year no? Ogbole no one even looked at besides seton hall. It’s a poorly constructed roster. But again we were told how great they were.In this day and age you can’t buy filet mignon with hamburger funds.
Dercack and Acuff will both be fine in b10 play. Even Hayes will probably end up being the sharpshooter we expected. Martini clearly not.Pike doesn’t do a good job of identifying B1G players. I’m not talking about an all league player. Just some guys who are serviceable. It’s not difficult
They had NIL. Apparently their 17 year old center didn’t want Pike to take a transfer C and he embarrassingly listened to the kid.If we had NIL we would have had a center.
He sleep walks in OOC play. Late with getting guys in or out. He almost coaches like it’s a glorified scrimmage trying to figure out his rotationsPike was bad in-game again. He let a 9 point lead evaporate without calling timeout and leaving a weak defensive lineup in the game for the whole run.
he did call timeout up seven or five i believe. At some point the players have to do their jobsPike was bad in-game again. He let a 9 point lead evaporate without calling timeout and leaving a weak defensive lineup in the game for the whole run.
Bad take IMO.If we had NIL we would have had a center.
The team, including the freshmen, will continue to improve over the course of the year. I realize that’s not good enough for the freakazoids on this board. We are a work in progress. At the same time, I find it a bit odd that fans are saying we don’t have B1G players when we just lost to 2 ranked SEC teams who are clearly built differently than almost every team in the B1G. Let’s wait until league play actually starts before we write off some of these guys.
You do realize we out rebounded one of best rebounding teams today. This team just needs to find a way to go from an atrocious defense and rebounding team to a mediocre one. Most of the players have begun showing flashes of ability. Really surprised at how little Martini is bringing to the table despite plenty of opportunity.
i mean today we outrebounded the best rebounding team in the country so that has improved in this tourney. This team just needs to find a way to go from an atrocious defense and rebounding team to a mediocre one. Most of the players have begun showing flashes of ability. Really surprised at how little Martini is bringing to the table despite plenty of opportunity.
Yes, but the defense would still be woeful.Rutgers is scoring enough points to win games if Rutgers had a pulse on defense.Sadly, Rutgers still has problems winning games away from the RAC.If we had NIL we would have had a center.
This team is a Top 10 team with Cliff.Bad take IMO.
If we had NIL, Cliff would be our Center and people would be bitching about same old same old.
Either way, that’s not the problem right now.
Maybe, and I love Cliff, but more likely is that Cliff gets into foul trouble early and becomes a ghost in games. This team is a Top 10 team with Cliff.
It was horrendous, was there right near RU bench and heard all the RU fans giving the refs grief. It was well deserved. I yelled at Anderson to stop worrying about doing his high knees BS and worry about the calls. The whistle was ridiculously one sided, RU offensive plays at the rim rarely were called a foul, not many and one calls, etc.. A&M got calls nearly every time they went to the hole and got more and one calls. I always think it’s a weak excuse to blame refs, but this was really bad.The refs sucked. Like really really bad. It was worse in person
Agreed. It was too egregious to ignore and cost us the game for realIt was horrendous, was there right near RU bench and heard ll the RU fans giving the refs grief. It was well deserved. I thought Lathan’s 5th was bad. Shout out to you Scangg, I heard you giving them grief, especially in 2nd half.Watch the 3rd foul on Ogbole. Pathetic
You are asking us to something we likely are not be capable of.This team just needs to find a way to go from an atrocious defense and rebounding team to a mediocre one. Most of the players have begun showing flashes of ability. Really surprised at how little Martini is bringing to the table despite plenty of opportunity.
This has been the issue for years and years and years. You are asking us to something we likely are not be capable of.
I just want us to stop taking bad shots. Stop doing something we are not capable of.
Kudos. I would only change “Some” to “Lots.” I think lots of Rutgers fans deserve good things, and lots don’t.Some of you guys are a disgrace. Our guys fought hard against one of the top rebounding teams in the country and lost. They are one of the most experienced teams in the country and we took the game down to the end. We even outrebounded them today. Instead of criticizing Pike and our guys some of you should support the team. That game was a war and we fought the entire time. We lost to Alabama that was rated # 1 in the country in a few preseason ratings and they went to the Final Four last year. Today we lost to a very good Texas A & M team yet you rip our coach. I guess you guys would like to go back to the Littlepage and Hill days. We are playing in one of the best conferences in the country and will have a Top 20 strength of schedule at the end of the season but all many of you can do is to complain. I support Pike as he has made this team one to get respect again. I also will always support our players. If you can't support our team maybe you should root for another team.
100%, an even whistle and we win that game. I thought we outplayed A&M and the whistle was why they won. We actually beat them on the Boards 42-35. We outplayed A&M, whistle had an insane influence on this game.Agreed. It was too egregious to ignore and cost us the game for real
JMike will be alright too. Acuff can't stay in front of a telephone poll.Dercack and Acuff will both be fine in b10 play. Even Hayes will probably end up being the sharpshooter we expected. Martini clearly not.
Pike was bad in-game again. He let a 9 point lead evaporate without calling timeout and leaving a weak defensive lineup in the game for the whole run.
This team needs more time, but it doesn't really have it.
There was virtually no carry over from last season to this season, and we were nearly starting from scratch with concepts, culture, etc. We returned just 17% of our minutes in the form of 3 players, two of which played in fewer of half of our games last year.
Harper has come in as a very mature freshman, though he does still make some freshman errors. Bailey and Sommerville are still clearly shaking off freshman immaturity. We brought in a rogue's gallery of guys who found success at lower levels to fill out the rest of the roster (Acuff, Derkack, Martini, Hayes), but these guys have also never played with each other, within Pike's system, or at this level of competition/expectation.
They are getting better game to game, but it's in fits and starts. There's still no real chemistry, no connectedness - they are uneven and haven't really figured out their roles yet.
We will definitely not be the same team in February that we were in November - but we need to make sure we amass enough wins between now and then to be in tournament conversation, can't dig too deep of a hole while they're still figuring things out.
Pike isn't taking those shotsDylan Grant took back to back shots in this stretch
Inexcusable from Pike
He did identify Centers to replace our starting C who got a million from Alabama. Pike wanted to upgrade the C position but with no money those players went to schools where the fan bases actually contribute $$$$. and not bash players and coach’s It’s easier to bash Pike.Pike doesn’t do a good job of identifying B1G players. I’m not talking about an all league player. Just some guys who are serviceable. It’s not difficult
Pike needs to tell guys time and situation and who can and can’t shoot. This has never been the case. Dylan and Ace and J will should have been only ones shooting other than layupsDylan Grant took back to back shots in this stretch
Inexcusable from Pike
