Pike

I mean, you do realize that was reported on this site, right?

That’s not just some random thing posters made up.

I was very much involved with that thread. I hated seeing it because it was a reminder of how different college basketball now is.

But Flow is right - the spin being put on it now by some is fictitious. It’s not true that we decided not to pursue guys like Cliff because we didn’t want to lose Lathan. It’s been reported multiple times that we offered Cliff and other top centers and our offers were nowhere near the stratosphere of the top offers. If you like, you might make the argument that we should’ve marketed more and pleaded with the RU community that funds were needed to buy a center.

But the problem with that is - we still wouldn’t have known what we could raise. Once you collect you aren’t giving the money back. So the only way to do that is to campaign - “donate money to buy the best center we can afford”. It’s quite possible that if we did that - Latham would’ve left and we still can’t get anyone decent. Then what? It was a tough situation to be in. We obviously used the bulk of our resources on Ace and Dylan.

Ah okay, I misunderstood your point.

Honestly my take with the whole NIL thing is that this specific situation is all on Hobbs and Pike.

Hobbs reportedly dragged his feet with NIL because he’s a lawyer and didn’t want to play it risky.

Pike WAS slow to adopt NIL, that’s a fact not an opinion.

Lots of people like to point fingers at the fan base, and don’t get me wrong we do need to be giving more, but Pike and Hobbs’ job description changed a couple years ago.

When this Dylan/Ace stuff kicked off, it became part of their job to put on their sales guy hats to get big money from big donors.

Pike doesn’t have to like it, but it’s true. And I’ll go a step further. If Pitino was our HC, do you have any doubt that he’d be able to find additional funds for this year?

Pitino is going to benefit from this debacle. I’m sure RU being in the NYC area plays some sort of role as to why Harper and Bailey are here. Pretty sure the NIL money was from Wall Street. If true, ain’t no way those guys will spend another dime on RU NIL with Pike here
