We all moan about how offensive our offense is and it’s fine that Pike is quote a defensive coach but my god you have 4 assistants that are all or were point guards and not one of them can come up with an offensive game plan or coach offense?
If we make foul shots of course it’s not close but my god he can’t start Jmik he’s such a black hole on offense we are basically playing 4v5 when he’s in the gameI’m happy as a pig and shit that we won today but, I don’t get it, one game the coaching is fantastic and the next game the coaching is goddamn abysmal. Today was the case for the latter. This game never should’ve been close.
Funny you say this. I don’t get why we are not putting full court press I. When Jmike and Jwill are in the game…otherwise Jmike really is a liabilityPike switching to full court pressure in the second half won the game. That and Dylan getting hot. Outscored SHU by 9 in 2nd half. 13-28 from the line and 11 first half turnovers are pretty tough stats to put up and win a game.
No the coaching is still abysmal but the win covers it up. We run no offense! It’s embarrassing how little offensive schemes we have. It’s not the talent this year so that excuse is gone for the blind Pilke lovers. When we make shots the coaching is good. When we miss it sucks.
Coaching is also getting beat on a pick and roll repeatedlyHow many foul shots did Pike make/miss today, how many screens did he lose his man and get beat on, how many turnovers did he commit? You want to find something wrong, starting JMiike did not work well and that does go to coaching. If you are going to play Hayes he needs to get shots, if he's not shooting the ball then you need a better defender on the floor, that also probaby goes to coaching and you rotations
So I guess we just recruit guys who can’t shoot Free throws or forgets how too. It’s followed Pike his whole RU career no matter what year or what players. At what point is that a Pike problem? How many foul shots did Pike make/miss today, how many screens did he lose his man and get beat on, how many turnovers did he commit? The problem is compounded with the lack of scoring from Williams which makes it 3v5 when they are both on the court.Rutgers really needs a 3 point shooter on the court in addition to Bailey and Harper. If we make foul shots of course it’s not close but my god he can’t start Jmik he’s such a black hole on offense we are basically playing 4v5 when he’s in the game
Where have you been!!!!!Pike switching to full court pressure in the second half won the game. That and Dylan getting hot. Outscored SHU by 9 in 2nd half. 13-28 from the line and 11 first half turnovers are pretty tough stats to put up and win a game.

Totally disagree. That is such a simplistic take. Is this coach Pike??We score 80 points a game and have played a pretty tough schedule relatively speaking. Offense is not this teams problem thus far.

With this team, it's gonna be tough to get any more out of them on defense. They are limited. The opportunity to improve is on the offensive side. We ain't making the tourney unless we get more efficient on offense.
2 elite players being ISO on the floor is not an offense! Your statistics help further show that we are in fact not running an inefficient offense.Harper is shooting 51% from the floor. Bailey is shooting 45% from the floor. Are we running enough offense for our two best players to be shooting 48.9% combined from the floor (they are 136-280 combined). The rest of the team is shooting under 33% from the floor. Not from 3, funder 33% rom the floor. Which non-Ace/Dylan player do you feel is not getting good shots? Unless you think the entire offensive game plan should be "no one other than Dylan or Ace can shoot" then fine, I guess, we don't run an offense.

We run no action to get Hayes or Acuff or Anyone an open 3
We don’t know how to flash to the foul line with one guy in the dunker spot against a zone.
We don’t know how to get the ball in the post consistently
Just small things Pikes offense misses
Just like it was Steve’s fault that Gavin could not make any shots, and that once he played for a good coach at Nebraska, he would flourish. What do you think is more likely?
(a) Pikiell’s coaching, which is largely a mental undertaking, swings wildly in quality from game to game
(b) you guys don’t actually know how to evaluate coaching and are wrongly attributing player performance differences to coaching
Spoilers: it’s B
Deacon BlueWe all moan about how offensive our offense is and it’s fine that Pike is quote a defensive coach but my god you have 4 assistants that are all or were point guards and not one of them can come up with an offensive game plan or coach offense?
What I see is that no one knows their role on offense (what do we want/not want from you and WHEN do we want it from you). The staff has clearly failed here.Harper is shooting 51% from the floor. Bailey is shooting 46% from the floor. Are we running enough offense for our two best players to be shooting 48.9% combined from the floor (they are 136-280 combined). The rest of the team is shooting 33% from the floor. Not from 3, 33% from the floor. The entire offensive game plan cant be "no one other than Ace or Dylan is allowed to shoot". Which non-Ace/Dylan player do you think isn't getting good shots? And we are still somehow scoring 80 ppg. I stand by my statement that offensive sets are not our problem.
As a comp Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel at Duke are shooting a combined 42% from the floor (98-233).
It’s all Harper and Bailey and ISOs with them begin the only two (other than Lathan) who can get their own shot. Take them away and we might have zero wins. Sommerville is the only player who might be here who should be starting a B1G game in the future, and he’s got a long way to go on D. If Pike doesn’t pluck at least 3 B1G players (not the A10 level of transfers he got this year), next year will be abysmal…and he doesn’t have a great track record with that…We score 80 points a game and have played a pretty tough schedule relatively speaking. Offense is not this teams problem thus far.
It’s almost like the coaching isn’t actually that variable and each game just takes on a personality of its own.I’m happy as a pig and shit that we won today but, I don’t get it, one game the coaching is fantastic and the next game the coaching is goddamn abysmal. Today was the case for the latter. This game never should’ve been close.
we have gone 8-9 minute stretches in many games this year scoring only 2-3 fg sometimes in the same gameWe score 80 points a game and have played a pretty tough schedule relatively speaking. Offense is not this teams problem thus far.
If you have two elite offensive talents who are at their best when they are creating for themselves off the dribble, then why are we complaining about Pike having them do the exact thing that they are good at?It’s all Harper and Bailey and ISOs with them begin the only two (other than Lathan) who can get their own shot. Take them away and we might have zero wins. Sommerville is the only player who might be here who should be starting a B1G game in the future, and he’s got a long way to go on D. Because we would be more effective if we didn’t just roll the ball out to Harper and tell him to do his thing. I get that with the quality of the transfers Pike brought in, it wouldn’t work like it could, but it would get shooters like Hayes and Martini more open looks, an occasional back-door, and a layup or two without Harper having to split through two defenders to do it on his own. It would also get Bailey moving to take even more advantage of his skill and athleticism. He’s always catching the ball in negative situations with the defender already squared up. We’re not using him effectively and relying on him to shoot jumpers while rarely attacking the rim.If you have two elite offensive talents who are at their best when they are creating for themselves off the dribble, then why are we complaining about Pike having them do the exact thing that they are good at?
So true about Ace. Just start taking about 5/6 3 pointers a game. The 21 foot contested turnaround jumpers are analytically such a worse decision than a face-up 3 pointerWhat I see is that no one knows their role on offense (what do we want/not want from you and WHEN do we want it from you). The staff has clearly failed here.
Why is Lathan trying to post up when Ace has the ball on the wing??? Most CYO coaches would fix that.
What do we do for Ace to get looks? Do we run anything for him? We used to run plays for Cam. He doesn't have Dylan's ability to get to the hole. He should be shooting more 3's imo. Too many 21 ft 2 points shots prior to today.
JD and JWill each get over their skis a few times per game, trying to do things they aren't capable of doing. Both could be more efficient on offense with proper coaching.
Davis shooting? No thank you.
PJ, Martini and Acuff play within themselves. PJ is a coaches son.
Almost all of Ace's made twos near the rim have come from transition or an offensive rebound. In a half court set, he has shown almost no ability to get to the rim.Harper and Ace are wildly effective getting to the rim. The last three games the game plan against has clearly been getting more hands and bodies in the lane to slow them both down. Worked v. Harper in the 1H today. I don't think we should be dragging more bodies in to the paint. (IMO) All PJ, Acuff, JWill and Derek have gotten are open 3s. They are 30-87 (34.4%). Bit unfair to drag Hayes in as he is 13-30 and while I like Hayes he needs to get much better on the defensive end to get more PT..
SHU 46.6% FG
Ohio State 55.2% FG
T A+M 42.9% FG
Bama 51.7% FG
ND 43.9% FG
I think each of those teams shot above their season average against us. I just don't see that our issues thus far have been on the offensive end.
But...... Pike cannot coach.Pike switching to full court pressure in the second half won the game. That and Dylan getting hot. Outscored SHU by 9 in 2nd half. 13-28 from the line and 11 first half turnovers are pretty tough stats to put up and win a game.
Cannot and does not coach offense.But...... Pike cannot coach.
If you produce wide open lay ups the fg % improves.Harper is shooting 51% from the floor. Bailey is shooting 46% from the floor. Are we running enough offense for our two best players to be shooting 48.9% combined from the floor (they are 136-280 combined). The rest of the team is shooting 33% from the floor. How about the curls?Coaching is also getting beat on a pick and roll repeatedly
There are 100 teams that average 80 a game, we aren't one of them prior to today. Schedule hasn't been tough either. Offense hasn't been as large of an issue as defense, but its been an issue. Our offense is bottom half of the conference in points, shooting %, 3pt shooting %, ect.We score 80 points a game and have played a pretty tough schedule relatively speaking. Offense is not this teams problem thus far.
