Politi NAILS IT on Pikiell’s Postgame Comments

I think the heat turns up on Pike and the criticisms of this season dominant the conversation around this team from mid Feb on. A lot of national writers and media personalities are going to want to analyze how a program squandered two Top 5 picks and aren’t even being talked about for a March madness birth.
We will also be fighting for a big ten tourney birth which all add another dynamic to the discussion.

Per the Pike fan club the program is in great shape.

Not defending pike it’s his roster and the negativity will obviously be severe but I think people will recognize that not having Harper functional is kind of a big problem.

The Politi article seemed fair based on this pathetic year.

There is a culture of losing at Rutgers that makes it OK to lose because things were so bad in the past.

These results would get people fired at any program that is serious about sports.

As passionate as people on this site are about RU athletics the people making decisions--The-AD--The University President and the Gov do not seem to care or know what they are doing.

It is nice to see some news outlet actually criticize this program when other news outlets just do not care.

Pike gets a break on Dylan with me, it’s very easy in retrospect to say Pike should have never played injured/sick Dylan, and had he not, arguably he’d be healthy by now and help us down the stretch.
But I don’t know a coach who wouldn’t play their best player and huge difference maker after getting clearance from Doctors and Trainers.
You learn as you go, by now Pike should have learned he needs to sit Dylan out

You’re right he had the flu before that.
Come on. We lost to Kennesaw. And Princeton. Barely beat a hapless Seton Hall team. Barely beat a bad Notre Dame team without their best player. Didn't even show up at Ohio State.

If you want to argue that with a healthy Harper we'd have a couple more wins in Big ten play, ok.

But there's no excuses for any of the stuff before Christmas.

What is he supposed to say?

Sorry I made a massive mistake going the one and done route.
Complain about the lack of NIL
Question why Harper didn't play like the guy who practiced yesterday
Say the team is fighting for shots after Ace takes a few bad ones
Say the team takes on the identity of their freshman stars

What is a guy who knows this season is over and the future of the program is based on guys on other teams right now supposed to say?

He’s not nearly the coach that Wright and Bennet are/were but when they noticed they couldn’t or didn’t want to compete in the new world that wasn’t suited to their strengths, they had class and stepped away. Perhaps he’s not there yet, but I hope he does what’s best instead of CViving if/when that time comes.

Amazing how 2 coaches we pursued have won National Championships (Villanova and UCONN).

I am having a real problem with Pikiells deflections and non informative comments

Its getting old exponentially

No one gives a shit about GPA and its insulting to Rutgers fans.

For once tell it like it is
You know the truth. I know the truth. Pike knows the truth.

What benefit is there to throw people under the bus?

Pike doesn’t get a pass from me because of Harper’s ankle. Every team has injuries. It’s not his fault that Harper got hurt; it’s his fault that he surrounded Bailey and Harper with nobody else and left no margin for error
He could have demanded harper wear high top sneakers 😃 .

Are there studies that i missed showing hightop sneakers don't actually reduce the chance of rolling your ankle?

Exactly..remember the team was so fragile and lacked depth 2 years ago that Mag went down and the while shebang collapsed

Last year the excuse was J Will wasnt eligible

A few years ago it was Caleb and Mulchay banged up...before that it was Geo

Alot of excuses. Politi is right

The fact is this team was boatraced at Kennesaw State 40-15. Played like complete garbage vs an atrocious Seton Hall. Mailed it in at Ohio State and put up one of the most pathetic defensive performances vs Princeton

you can call out your team for underperforming without throwing specific players under the bus. smiling and waving while your team is a dumpster fire doesn’t seem like the way to motivate your team.

3.2 million and soon to be 3.5 million and still many many excuses. That’s part of the reason we might never be better than we are. We accept and even applaud mediocrity. One NCAA tournament win in eight seasons and a program that’s trending way down is mediocrity (at best).

Yes, not having Harper playing at peak efficiency now is a big problem. At the same time losing to Kennesaw State and Princeton were bigger problems because it left the team with no margin for error.St.Peters and Seton Hall at the RAC almost were losses with Harper playing. The only consistent performance at both ends of the court was against Columbia.

Per ChatGPT: A 2014 study in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine found no significant difference in injury rates between players wearing high-top and low-top sneakers. The study concluded that injury prevention depends more on external factors like conditioning, bracing, and tape.

While high-tops may provide some added support and comfort, they are not a guaranteed solution to prevent ankle injuries. Strength training, proper technique, and additional protective measures (like bracing) are more effective strategies for injury prevention. Players should choose footwear based on comfort, fit, and personal preference.

Q: How many people calling out Pike would have been OK (not NOW, but at the time) with Pike benching Ace and putting him in the doghouse against Kennessaw State and other games?
A: Very few

Pike is officially absolved then.

Next ChatGPT project......why do players don't take layups with their left hand on the left side?

Pike isn't one to call out himself, his coaching staff, or his players during a season. Just not his personality. I am sure you will see him reflect in the off season on how he has to adapt his approach. Whether or not he is willing to change is a different thing all together, but he will acknowledge it. He's done it every year.

Pike blames himself all the time.....it is obviously lip service

Ace is the only guy on the team who has consistently played at a high level. He was hurt early and rushed back from injury to ensure he was there for his team.

In my opinion Ace is to be applauded, he’s playing his ass off while being supported by massively flawed Frankenstein roster.

These same passionate fans on this board who won’t give Pike an inch are the same ones who continue to refuse to give him pocket change so that he could get players. Our roster is not a Big Ten roster aside from our 2 Five Star players and maybe 3 more. Let’s just bash Pike and demand wins but play the game as other schools do and donate to NIL? Nah not me I don’t believe in that. Lol

I’m fine with Pike lighting the dumpster fire, he got in over his head and it happens in all professions. I just hope he isn’t arrogant enough to think he can fix this mess and gracefully walks away when the season ends.

If his arrogance dictates that he believes he can fix the team for $3.5 million next year and stays on…that becomes a huge problem.
