Let's see what we all think, and tell us why. Lots of discussion let's get the consolodated view

Tix,
This is weird man. Why this poll? You really think a bunch of guys watching from home on tv can tell how our coaching was? The amount of coAching we don't see off the camera is crazy. As far as playcalling, we don't know what checks are made and which checks are never made.
Any responses to this thread are based off nothing

It is a common thing for people to rate coaching after a game go find a family member to biotch about. Jeez

I gave it an A.

Simple, really: RU was a TD underdog, on the road, opponent homecoming (often gives the home team an additional emotional boost), their stud Senior QB back after injury, and RU lost its star WR to injury late in the 3rd quarter, one of its depleted young CB to injury midway through the 3rd quarter, had its best remaining defensive player dinged (still played but not 100%), and had one of its starting Safeties dinged, missed some time with a dinged back-up replacing him ... and still found a way to win.

Stupid poll is stupid. Can't rate coaching as a single componet when their is 3 major units and many sub units in coaching.

Offense A++
Defense F
Special teams F

Combined is an A as Rutgers won.

Defense would be a C- or D, not an F. Because the defense gets an A+ for the 4th quarter ... and stopped IU in the end, when it REALLY had to stop them: 2 interceptions, 2 HUGE run stuffs (on 3rd down and 4th down).

Special teams gets a B- or a C, not an F. The punting was excellent - and actually superlative in the 1st half, solid in the 2nd half. The extra-point team was awful (both the interior blocking poor, and Federico's extra point kicks too low). But RU also scored a TD off special teams (even though RU played that punt for a punt fake, and IU had a bad snap without RU forcing anything ... still, RU actually SCORED a TD off it, by tackling the punter, forcing him to fumble it after he tried to pick up the bad snap, and then ran the ball in for the TD). Plus, Federico and the field goal kicking team DID hit the game-winning FG.

Sounds like the sky is blue then?

The defense gave up 52 points and over 600 hundred yards of offense. That's an F in anyone's book.

Special teams got the game winning FG only because they missed the extra point on the previous drive. The second blocked PAT of the game. Sorry. No excuse for more than one. the punting unit was good/great but can't over come the short comings of the rest of the kicking game.

I would grade the ST PERFORMANCE in the game as an F, but I don't think I'd rate the ST COACHING as an F. It's not the coaches fault that a senior kicker misses an extra point.

Offense: A
Defense: C
Overall: B

I felt bad giving the Defense the "C" -- didn't seem fair due to the super green backfield. However, if you give up 50+ points, I can't give a "B".

But zero points and only 50 yards and 2 first downs, forcing 2 interceptions and 2 punts (one of which turned into a TD) in the 4th quarter ... an A+ in the 4th quarter. That ending raises the grade above an F.

And special teams has more than just 1 component to it, more than just extra points. And just because RU's extra point team screwed the pooch on 4 attempts (2 extra points and 2 2-point attempts), does not mean the SUCCESSFUL FG attempt does not count - that is ridiculous and of course SUCCEEDING on a FG attempt counts. You only do not want to count it because it goes against your narrative. That is like saying a QB throwing a TD does not count because it might not have been needed if only he had not thrown an earlier interception. Or stuffing a run on 3rd and short does not count because the DL gave up an 8-yard run the play before, and it would not have been necessary to stuff a short run if only the DL had not given up the longer run earlier.

And I forgot ONE special teams play (as did you) that was huge: The fake punt for a 1st down!

So, on special teams:

1) Extra Point/2-point execution: F

2) Punting: A-/B+

3) FG Kicking: A+

4) Returns: B ... Grant did a poor job on his 1 kick-off return (too hesitant, not enough blocking), but RU DID return a punt FUMBLE for a TD, which counts as special team play.

5) Punting Team "Special": A+ on the punt fake and TD - both coaching and execution.

Kickoff and punt coverage teams did a good job too, right?

That fake punt was a thing of beauty. I saw the guy coming in motion and thought, that looks different. Snap, fake, big run. Nice play all around.

What jellyman said. End of thread and poll. Haters are going to hate.

Not much hate so far...so we close threads because a few don't like them?
