Pritzlaff

Probably a factor but what are they supposed to do? Pritzlaff and Rivera are similar type coaches in that they’re both lower weight guys. You can’t really have both of them as assistant coaches.

I don’t think there’s as much ill will as people here are speculating. Rutgers loses here obviously but the two guys leaving are essentially leveling up in the coaching field.
Donny wrestled with 174-197 a ton in the room. They wouldn't have been on the same staff if Rivera replaced Donny. That was my point them going after Snyder and not giving it to Rivera maybe that's what the comments were about

Yeah, hey, what's going on here folks?! The way I see it, either way, this opens up opportunities for guys to step up. So all in all, it's a positive and net win! Go RU!!
Yea it's always good to lose the lead assistant, who is the primary voice in the corner and top athlete from the RTC. Net win!!!

Going for Snyder instead of giving it to Rivera sounds like a blunder..

Give me a break. Are u serious? Going after a 13 year Nebraska top assistant rather than Seabass who could not give us an answer due to concentrating on the Olympics.

Ur right then Seabass should understand the situation and not think “it coulda been handled better.”

The problem is the negative pundits have no idea how big this offer was. I can tell you he turned down a large bag of money from Rutgers.
That's his choice. Instead of taking the high road he says it was handled poorly. How about you just wanted to go with Donny and get more money. Maybe he really did not want to leave but greed had a play in it. If anyone handled this wrong it is him by saying what he said. Show some maturity. Take the high road.
Snyder was offered a great deal to be a coach in waiting. He and his family did not want to leave Nebraska. You can't compare Snyder and a guy that has never coached a day in his life.

I would have loved to have Rivera coach at Rutgers. But if Goodale waits on Rivera and he still decides to go with Donny then we have everyone criticizing Goodale for not having another plan before the season starts. He went and got Labriola, which was a great hire.

Not sure why they couldn’t create an extra spot for Rivera. I’m guessing budget constraints.

Bill: I think if I was offered a job I wanted, it would be an easy decision and only take a minute from my current priority. I suspect Rivera was waiting to hear of a formal offer from Donny before committing to Rutgers.

Well, there's the anticipated and expected spin. "You can’t really have both of them as assistant coaches" Really? Who would have thought?

"Rutgers loses here obviously but the two guys leaving are essentially leveling up in the coaching field" What? WHAT?

This was so easy to see coming. Look back to my posts on page one or two. Tell me where I was wrong? The only thing I didn't see coming was the Hobbs' debacle. I predicted his failure to manage this situation, but had no idea he was more interested in gymnastics (of any type). No one likes to hear "I told you so", but if it annoys the giggle boys, it's worth it.

I have been accused of hating Goodale, which is far from the truth. I made that clear in my page two post. I admire the guy's enthusiasm and very much appreciate his contributions. I do also realize he has reached his potential and ability to advance the program. I'd like to see him in a meaningful role until he is ready to retire. The opportunity that I first spoke of has seemingly passed. Maybe not, but now with the AD thing in flux, I don't know. Here is the question I pose and should have been considered by Hobbs: Is any one person more important than the program itself?

I love Seabass but he was offered a lot of money to be the Assistsnt coach and did not want to upset Donny so he said no. So Scott went after Snyder and Labs would have come with him. Snyder said no so we got Labs
It seems like no assistant with any credentials wants to work for Goodale. They struck out last year and got stuck with pollard. Ash left for Princeton. Donnie and seabass bailed. The coaching staff is a shit show. It’s more like a D3 staff.

Was he offered a coaching or recruiting position?

Donnie was a faithful soldier under Goodale for plenty of years. He wanted to run his own program and got an offer he liked. How is that bailing?? Seabass, for whatever reason wanted to be with Donnie. Sure it sucks, but Seabass making a decision to stick with Donnie is not Earth shattering news. Ashnault is perplexing...he up and vanished like a fart in the wind from Rutgers. Mikey joins the staff with plenty of credentials which bucks your theory as well. While I do agree things are messy right now, it is fixable. The team appears quite good this year and a very solid recruiting class just arrived.

We Signed The #4 Class in USA...Return more NCAA qualifiers than Everyone...Program is at its All Time High heading into 2024/2025 season...Haters going to Hate
We’ll still finish around the same as we do every year unfortunately. The number 4 class lacks top talent. Some will be good but I don’t see any surefire kids that will be multi time all Americans. Harer probably has a good shot to all American.

I think we make a big jump this year and next couple

Well I certainly hope you’re right I just don’t see it right now. I’ll be at all the home matches.. dying to see us win a big match or two. I just feel like it’s been really stale for awhile.

How is Mason Gibson looking in the room?
Is he coming off an injury? (Can't remember)
How does he do against Dean?
I am hoping Dean P gets over the hump and gets an AA.
Of the wrestlers who HAVE NOT AA'd, i think he may be the most likely to break the bubble

Bad take

And there you have it. Sounds like Goodale f'ed it up. What the hell happened?

Hey now that's what I like to hear!! Who needs the brains behind the operation? And who needs Ash and Rivera? We have this. #4 class! Attendance! Facilities! We're the best! It says so on this here message board! Go RU!!!! And if you don't like it folks, there's a train station right here in New Brunswick and you should buy a one way ticket... OUT OF HERE!!

And don't forget, if you criticize, you must be a hater. Such simple minds!

I don't think the sky is falling but fans forget how things were before Pritzlaff. Rutgers had good attendance, good recruiting classes, a great area for wrestling, lots of national qualifiers, and couldn't develop an AA. I'm not saying he is solely responsible for later development but great classes, big crowds and lots of qualifiers aren't convincing.

Rutgers did well last season correcting course and securing some post season individual honors. Hopefully that can continue! If it does, credit will be given for navigating this hurdle and keeping program on course. If not, criticism will be warranted.

Rutgers still does well comparatively.

I think any setback confirms the program is off course for some fans eager to take the next step, while other fans use the setbacks as reasons the steps don't happen and are less interested in results. Maybe they prefer process over outcome? Hard to say.

I try to focus on the results. Last season was good. These personnel changes may hurt performance but they may bring positive change too. If Rutgers manifests post season success, that's all that matters. Results will tell us what these changes mean.

Maybe its not too late to Drop to D3 and get out of B1G for Wrestling...We are doomed to get embarrassed this season 🙃
Just saying it seems odd we can't attract high quality assistants. Last year we tried and everyone turned us down so we ended up with Pollard. This year we struck out again and hired an assistant with no experience. Labriola could turn out to be good, but who knows. I mean at least he has some credentials to be a coach in the Big Ten. Pollard should probably be sent back to the SKWC, but unless we can actually find a good coach that wants to be here I guess it doesn't matter.

Will the SKWC continue or will it just fold up? If Buxton leaves what's left? Just the Russian guy?

I would like to know this too. If Buxton leaves what's left? I donate but have really not kept track, I'll still donate but it seems our wrestling club was once rising and now seems to be having a tough time.
