Pritzlaff

So we've got,

Labriola
Kermerer
McFadden

We were just poking around Nebraska so by process of deduction Labriola would be my bet. McFadden would have been good, has 3yrs coaching experience at Drexel and now Cornell just picked him up as a volunteer assistant. But like we all know in Cornell land he's probably getting paid in some type of work around.

I think the Nebraska connection may be good. Perhaps he was part of a package deal with Snyder...
But Mikey is NJ right?
I was going with PA and i know Kemerer was in same high school as Spencer Lee...

McFadden is another good choice

EDIT: Mikey L is from Easton...., there you go..puzzle pieces fit

Dont love it if it’s Labriola. Yeah he has B10 experience and was an AA but no coaching or recruiting experience or resume. Very little if any International Experience or really Senior Level experience. With our resources would think we could do better. Start the giggles but we should expect more IMO after losing a coach with the credentials of Pritzlaff. Doesn’t seem like there was much of a succession plan in place which anyone with any business experience knows is essential. Not a hater at all but we should expect more. Yeah we tried on Snyder and thats great but at end of day we didnt get him and should have Plan B’s and C’s.

Only way this is an OK hire is if we keep Rivera or add someone of similar caliber for lower weights and spread Pritzlaff $ across multiple coaches.

Great guy to get in the room and on the mat. He was creative and competitive; very fun to watch.

I think some fans wildly underestimated what Pritzlaff brought to the team. It's not fair to blame any hires for that though. New blood from the outside and from a program with consistently good results is exciting. This doesn't look like a replacement for Pritzlaff regardless. That position remains open, right?

I am not sure anyone underestimated what Donny Brought.
He is a program maker which is what he will be doing at Columbia.

I imagine the potential new hire is NOT a replacement.
It looks like RU is going to leave associate hire until next year.
If they could hire 2 AA's this year, it will hold them over until next year(it will have too)

I really like the hire to add Labriola to staff...Bringing in a Bethlehem Catholic, Pennsylvania and University of Nebraska Legend is a great move. I think it will be a boost to our upper weights and recruiting in the Keystone State ( by far the best HS wrestling state in the USA). Our Upper Weights should all be in the running for 2025 All-American Honors Again!

His NCAA career as a Cornhusker was Great
Only 5x All-American in Nebraska History
NCAA Finalist
120-28 record

Welcome to The Banks and RU Wrestling Mikey Labriola!!

Let's Go RU!

So if we end up losing Donnie and replacing him with Labriola that’s extremely weak. We’ll have one of the worst staffs in the big ten if not the worst.
Hold on, Judge. While I easily predicted this, there is a curveball being played. There are two openings instead of one. If Labriola is joined by Seabass (still questionable), it'll be as good as we could realistically expect. That would secure Seabass, which we didn't have before with him as a SKWC athlete. While neither of them boasts a NC, Labriola came close and was defeated by Starocci. No cigar, but he's a quality wrestler fresh off the mat. Rivera defeated Lee twice; I don't think anyone else did that - Suriano lost to Lee twice. The bigger opportunity will be lost, but if Goodale retires anytime soon or transitions to another role, the opportunity arises again. It'll just be a matter of Rutgers being serious enough to spring for a top-name coach.

Having more NC as a former wrestler doesn’t translate to meaning being a better coach… Labriola would probably be more up to date wit the more current style of wrestling and he’s from PA which could help with recruiting… at the end of the day it’s recruiting the wrestlers w the best potential imo… whether that be a blue chipper or a diamond in the rough… if we wanna move up in the b10 pecking order it all starts wit recruiting “the right guys”. We can get the best coaches in the world but if we don’t recruit “the right guys” it won’t mean too much….

Are there two openings on the staff? Can Seabass be added without removing an existing coach? What exactly is a recruiting coordinator? Thanks for clarifying this. $$$$

Yeah I don’t know why some people are down on Labriola. The only thing between him and a national title is potentially the only guy to ever win 5 of them. For years the same people whining about Labriola not being a good hire were complaining that we need to upgrade our upperweight coach.

Donny handled everyone but had more impact with the lighter guys. Probably why we’ve had a good run with guys at the lower weights. Labriola while joining the staff will be in a different role. Hoping he has the ability to push Soldano to the next level and can get Poz and Turley back to form.

Theres a lot to like about this current roster. There are 4 returning AA’s and that doesn’t include Peterson, Olivieri, or Soldano. The remaining weight classes return national qualifiers, plus we have a couple of highly touted freshman looking to make an impact. We’re not going to have 7 or 8 total AA’s but we have 7 or 8 guys that are capable of getting there and I don’t think 10 NQ’s is out of the question depending on where Harer ends up and how effective he is as a freshman.

Speculation from what I have seen posted, it appears that there is one assistant coach opening and a new position (new headcount?) for recruiting. The hiring of Labriola, if confirmed, would fill the assistant opening. If Seabass accepts, they have to use the recruiting headcount to add him. However, I suspect Mytych will be moved to the recruiting position to allow Seabass as an assistant coach. Does this sound logical? If so, at least they're thinking creatively.

I don't think a recruiter position is allowed in the corner. There's a set number of coaches allowed to actually coach during matches.
There's no way Mytych gets moved to a non coaching role imo.

Then pick someone else. I only said Mytych because he has been heralded as a great recruiter. I don't think Rivera, should he accept, will want to be anything less than a coach. Messner could have added some clarity, but could only offer a giggle.

Haven't seen anything re: the status of Goodale's contract. An old NJ.com article reported that his most recent extension (years back) would run through the 2023-24 season...

Agree. Posters should not reveal others' real names. If someone wants their name revealed, they can do it themselves, like Bill. And apparently, the revelation was incorrect.
Yea pretty stupid. But not sure you had to remove the entire thread from Tuesday to Saturday over those 2 posts. Remove those only.

I know someone in RU compliance who said he was asking for a hefty raise. Outside of that I have not heard much.

We get an in home visit and with the number one recruit in the country and the response is negative. Oh well
Same story with the same people. People were whining that we weren’t Knox’s first phone call at midnight. Instead we’re the first visit for Bassett and “I wonder if he approves of the coaching situation.” Just miserable trolls. Better off ignoring them

Oh phew read it wrong, as in his home visit did not go well.. think ppl are just trying downplay our chances since we were so close to so many elite recruits and came 2nd… C. Schultz, Ferrarri, Knox.. etc.. eventually we gotta land a top p4p.. Basset is a generational recruit.. much like Spencer Lee.. once Spencer went Iowa PA guys followed him and helped Iowa win a title during the PSU era.. whoever lands Basset will land much more then just him.. he’s a program changer..
