PSU game Wed night

Except Tastee's isn't anywhere near the route from the NJ Turnpike and Rte 18 (where the PSU fan is coming from). It's in Edison about 15 minutes north in rush hour traffic.
.
yes, this was the plan. you guys have to step it up, jeez.

If you really want to get a drink before there's plenty of places downtown in NB or on Easton Ave where you can pop in for a quick one.

I'd try to get to the stadium at least 45 minutes before tipoff if it's going to be crowded.

Basically, if you can only get into the area by 5:30 or 6:00, your food/bar options are very limited, as the traffic for a sold out game (this game will be a sellout) is pretty congested around the RAC, and it will take you a good bit of time to get in the arena. You really need to plan to arrive at the RAC area by 6:30 for a 7:00 game.

roughly 15 minutes out of the way, but worth it imo. simply take turnpike exit 9 to rt 18 north to route 1 north, then exit onto plainfield avenue towards Edison. grab your sub, then drive to the game. The RAC is roughly 10 minutes from Tastees. go the local way. wolf your sub down just before you enter the arena. i've done this 100 times just before the game, and its worth it for me.

no, but it serves awesome waffles with a Block R in the center
And very nice people too boot. They were the savior's of one of our many breakfast tailgates during our AAC days. Wife forgot the butter and syrup for pancakes(somehow, someway it was my fault). Anyway, Henry's provided all the butter and syrup for a tailgate of 8 for only a $1.

i gave you a wow? sorry man. didn't mean to come off arrogant. i guess i'm simply ignorant of Rutgers' fans enthusiasm for their basketball squad (hey...kudos). Rutgers is typically a perennial bottom half Big Ten squad like PSU, so i didn't think people gave a sh*t. but what do i know. again...my bad. Conversely to PSU/State College, I suppose it's much easier for alumni to attend a game during the week.

I guess coming off the Iowa game and PSU coming to town, good chance of a sell out again.
No worries, I didn't think you intended it that way.
You do realize the RAC is indoors, don't you?
Sssshhhhhh.......you shouldn't have said anything: he would have been standing over at HPSS wondering where everybody was!

I would target getting there 6:30 at the latest... there was a game this year where it took 30 minutes to park (and I have a yellow pass). Then there was the walk from the end of the lot to the game...

Also there is no outside food or beverages allowed in. If you grab a sub or water to go, you don't want to carry it into the game since the staff will confiscate it.

Cypress Brewing is 3 miles away. Grab the sub and go to a local brewer where you can walk up and try 10 beers on tap from that brewery. You can bring food in. campus is still 10-15 minutes away

some of these guys are pulling your leg--don't come-- parking and traffic is difficult, you will have to buy from a couple of scalpers that hang out on the side, if you go to Henry's, it takes forever for service, the climb up the hill to the RAC is very steep and will be icy with poor lighting , give yourself an hour after dinner to travel to the RAC and an hour when leaving, and do your bathroom run before getting there, the bathrooms are packed--all in all you'll have a terrible experience and truthfully you're not wanted and PSU will lose anyway

Of course there’s outside food and beverage. It’s called putting it in a coat pocket. You think I’m paying $5 for a Diet Coke?

Shhh... don't give away our secrets. Next year they'll be doing part downs. ;)

One misconception in this thread. Anyone can eat at the Rutgers Club ( if it is open with no private function). You need to be a member to get alcohol.

Are you sure? Thought that was only for students that are over 21 that can eat not being a member. If they want to buy alcohol, they need to become a member.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Yes, I was a member but this year I did not renew. I go over there before the games and sit up at the back area and order off the bar menu. You cannot sit at the bar.

One caveat, not sure what the rules are if it is not a game night.

Have you ever walked across the parking lot in the wind to a car parked in the back? That's the arctic cold I'm talking about.

But yeah LOL
I'm pretty sure that the RAC parking lot has officially been designated as the coldest place on earth. My wife will attest to that though i tell her that since the new dorms went up across the street and the solar panels put in place that the wind has been reduced and now its only in the top 5.

Tastee's is a Rutgers institution, but it's basically a soggy sub on stale bread with limp smelly onions on it. Someone from out of the area will be very disappointed.

But along that same route, you can grab a quick bite and good beer at Quaker Steak and Lube on Rt. 1. That's where I go to pregame. If you are meeting someone, you can consolidate cars there and it's only 4 miles from the RAC, about a 10 minute drive down Plainfield Ave to Ethel Rd, which brings you into the RAC on the Rockafeller Rd. side of the lots, so you can avoid the shitshow on Hospital Rd.

so wait....we're not gonna be friends?

PSU fan in section 316....look forward to hugging it out:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

231 seats still available on StubHub. Around the $24 range for the nosebleeds, a small handful left under $100 in the 200s, and a handful between $120-180 in the 100s. Have a feeling most of these will go by game time tonight.

I'm thinking about driving up to the RAC on Wed night to catch the basketball game. It's my first time, so I had a few questions:

  1. I don't need to get a ticket before hand, right? I can just stroll in there and get a general admission seat (and hopefully move down)? Or do fans actually show up your basketball games?
  2. I'm hoping to get there around 6. Where do I get a good beer and bite that's fairly convenient to park and close to the RAC? I'm 44, so something on the nicer end, but is also a 'Rutgers' bar. looking at the map, looks like George St has a bunch of places. But i'll leave it up to the experts.
  3. Do they serve beer at the RAC or no? no biggie, just curious.
thanks in advance

Hey PSU...we actually have a secret passageway to get to our basketball stadium. All you have to do is find the tallest bridge you can. Has to be at least 100 feet above the body of land/water. Then take your vehicle and drive it as fast as it goes over the apex point of the bridge. During the fall, you will be transported to front row seats at the RAC.

Trust me!

Wow, I don't know if you realize it, but that's kind of arrogant. Yes, fans do go to our games, and we've already had 3-4 sellouts this year. Sounds like tickets could be tight for Wed. Someone else can advise you on where to go, but keep in mind parking is tight in New Brunswick, and the RAC is on another campus and will take a while to get to. Also, they don't sell beer at the RAC this year: that starts next year.
During the dark years of my divorce, I had to give up my season tickets. The 2006 Louisville game I did not have a ticket and my usual tailgate crowd ticket were all spoken for and the game was oversold. So I had all my RU gear on and a Printed sign that said, "RU Fan Needs ticket", not sure if I was going to get in. I stood by the gate for not more than five minutes before a fan came up to me and said they had a ticket. I offered to buy it from him and he just told me it was his pleasure to give it to a Rutgers fan, no charge. So while the game Technically may be "sold out" there are always a way to score a ticket.

Wow that's crazy. Those were the hardest tickets to get for any game in Rutgers history probably

how many camo hats did they give away cple weeks back? 100?

Agree. These promos are a joke. If you're not there as soon as the doors open, you're pretty much out of lucky. And I'm convince they hold back half the supply of whatever's being given away for "VIPs" and other cronies and special guests.

Either do it right and have enough for everyone (or every kid at least) or don't bother.
