I guess you can say that Rutgers is not a household college basketball name, not after a 29-year NCAA tournament drought.

But we have one of the best home court atmospheres -- we like to call it RACmosphere -- in the country. The place gets as loud as any other venue in the country even though it only seats about 8,300 at full capacity, with the fans seemingly on top of the court. After a game against UConn in the early 2000s, Jim Calhoun said that it was the loudest arena he's ever played in. We are now 14-0 at home this season (the best home record in the country)

Hope y'all "enjoy" your time in Piscataway on Tuesday evening. Bring your ear plugs...

I have no doubt it gets extremely loud. We have several high school gyms about that size. I know your team is playing great ball while IU is trying to figure it out. IU has played poor on the road.

Pretty sure Indiana fans know who we are. We beat them at the RAC last year and MSG the year before.

I like the reminder to bring their ear plugs! Lol!

LOL, y'all sure do love your hoops in the Hoosier state! Our RAC can't compare to those high school gyms I guess... :Shocked

I was at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame this summer and yes there are a few Indiana high school gyms with 8-9000 seating.

Great place to visit if you are in New Castle Indiana.

Basketball is a religion in the Hoosier State.

Are Indiana high schools massive regional schools? Do the gyms need to be that big because whole communities go to games? Or both? Those are some big gyms.

High school basketball is incredibly popular in Indiana. Same reason that there are huge high school football stadiums in Texas.

The USA Today did an article several years back on the size of many high school gyms in Indiana and the frenzy of high school basketball in the state. I saw it first hand when I attended Bellarmine in Louisville just across the Ohio River in Indiana. I ran many cross country meets in Indiana and as a statistician for our basketball team for my first 2 years in college attended many college basketball games in Indiana.

We have some big schools like any other state. I live in Warsaw our gym seats around five thousand. we have 2200 students. We also have a field house for running track indoors. New Castle isn't a big school but have a huge gym. When I was young it was hard to get tickets to high school games. The largest crowd ever was 44,000 for a state final game. Shawn Kemp's team versus Damon Bailey's team.

Just because its a religion doesn't mean it's good. Rutgers is going to ball on Wednesday.

Indy Star had a article a while back about Indiana talent. Per captia the most NBA talent since the league started by a wide margin. The year my daughter graduated Indiana had 61 D1 players. I know Jersey puts out some serious talent also..

How many make it to the NBA?

149 players in the NBA from Indiana, trailing California (408), New York (399), Illinois (282), Pennsylvania (237), Ohio (190), Texas (187) and Michigan (155). New Jersey has sent 140.

I don't like trapezoid of terror. It feels like trying way to hard. We have an awesome nickname. "The RAC" is awesome.

Eh, just think of it as our "alternative" reference (like alternative uniforms). Obviously it will always be "The RAC."
