Question for people who want Eddie to stay

How many Big Ten wins does Eddie need to get to keep his job through 2018?

What is enough progress for you?

and then what in year 5? When does Eddie have to make the jump?

Then you win 2/3 more and you're .500 - that will help recruiting going forward - and then returning with number one player in the conference with eye balls on what I'd imagine will be a very love/hate personality come senior year.

It's just that simple.
Does he ever have to get to the NCAAs or is that just for other schools?

Let's see according to posters, if not for injury it would have been--4 this year
6 next
8 the following
and then 10 (when Corey is a senior.)

Which means he'd still have to win ten out of conference games to sniff the bubble.

Come on.

For me, he has to keep the program together and then next year .500 overall record. To get there realistically, I would expect it would mean 5-6 conference wins.

10-8 in B1G play likely gets you into the dance. So yes, NCAA by Corey's senior year

if Corey gets that good, he isn't staying a 4th season..and realistically the only shot at a NCAA bid would be his senior year, Freeman/Johnson/Wiilliams gone by then so where are all the top recruits....oh yeah they haven't been recruited..anybody confident they will be

People (Rutgers basketball fans) have this great (Sike) talent for predicting any four star recruit to become an NBA draft pick that leaves early.

I've been laughing at these people for the 15 years. Wake up

I don't necessarily want EJ to stay but if he does, then I would need to see actual progress next year - around .500 overall, minimal blowouts, competitive games and a few upsets or near upsets. Then Corey's Jr. year we'd need to be s bubble team/solid NIT team.

Assuming no transfers and no early departures, Corey's senior year would be:
Seniors: Sanders, Doorson (5th), Diallo (5th), Laurent, Goode
Juniors: Tripp, Thiam, Dailey, TBD
Soph: None
Freshmen: 4 TBD

Upperclassmen would be 3 guards (Sanders, Tripp, Goode), 3 wings (Laurent, Thiam, Dailey), 2 bigs (Doorson, Diallo), 1 TBD

We all need to realize that with all the injuries this year we cannot expect EJ to be able to show progress next year with so many "new faces" coming in (Diallo, Freeman, Doorson, Johnson along with the 3 recruits). Next year, may be worse than this year- and that's OK. This is a process and we all need to be patient. Year 13 we may be sniffing double digit wins...you fans don't get how long it takes to build a program...at least a dozen or more recruiting classes.

Corey is a very good freshman. He is the point guard on the worst major team in the past 10 years. He is a good player, but only a piece.

He isn't the savior. Just a good B1G player. People's expectations are too high for him.

NO WAY we have a worse record next year.
Come on.

I am sure you are being sarcastic, but no Eddie defenders are saying they don't expect progress next year.

If hes not making the nba then he is not making the ncaa with the talent level surrounding him

More wins and guys like Foreman who look like they have been in weight room. We need to get stronger too, look at a MSU.

You're clueless brotha and no I'm starting to feel bad for you more than Eddie.

Good luck.

Edit*

truth hurts...do you know RU doesn't exist in a bubble...do you care to stack up our talent vs the 13 schools ahead of us in the Big 10 pecking order

Our talent is bottom third of the Big Ten and better than it should be after Mike Rice left us as biggest disgrace in collegiate athletics in the country. Thanks to Eddie. Now that needs a chance to grow.

really? because with Sanders and Freeman its in the bottom 3-4 so where are all these guys coming in..next year? doesn't look like it

Have you read about Baylor?

IMHO, with EJ back, no defections and a couple additions (possibly a JUCO front court player) we can be a 500 team next season. Sanders, Laurent, Freeman and Foreman are players to build around. Shaq and Diallo have to shore up the middle. Williams and Goode should be better. I know we have a transfer sitting out that I believe is a forward. We need another big and wing that can score.

Next year is a very very interesting group talent-wise.

1)The most important thing is that is Freeman back. If he is thats huge huge huge. He alone probably would have given us +3 in the win column if he played the whole season for us.

2)Next year we are essentially replacing Daniels with Nigel Johnson. That right there is such an improvement its not even funny (I am not a fan of Daniels).

3)Sanders as a soph as opposed to Sanders as a freshman.

4)We add AT LEAST three more bodies to the rotation in Tripp, Dailey, and Thiam. All three are 6'4" or taller. Just getting 3 more bodies, including supposed shooters, is a big deal and adding a 6'9" guy in Thiam is even a bigger deal.

I really felt we were probably a 4-5 B1G win team this year if we had all the pieces. Therefore I am going to say he needs at least 7 B1G wins to definitely keep his job next year.

I also hope that we can press a little bit, impossible this year with no bench.

I would like to see this team play. I don't think we have ever had 5 seniors who played four years together make it to their senior seasons in all my 30 years of watching this team.

And the point with Dooson is I realize he might not be so good, but Lewis would get more rest. Lewis played like 40 minutes in Illinois game with bad knee.

Give me a break! He is the best point guard in the last 15 years and you try to diminish his impact . He is the crucial piece. A three point assassin and a low post scorer and Ru is winning.

The biggest loss from this year to next is Lewis. Yes he's been playing hurt and hasn't been hugely productive - but having a senior big man under the basket who can play defense and isn't a fouling machine is an important thing. Next year, whether we go with Doorson or Diallo, we'll be playing with a center who has had a season or less time on the court.

I don't know Nigel Johnson enough to know what he will or won't bring. I too am not a big fan of Daniels' game, but he does have the ability to get to the basket and score in transition. And Grier can be a threat from three when he's on. Johnson will have to replace both of those threats just to maintain status quo. To progress, he has to be either much better from range or slightly better in both areas.

What if Freeman doesn't make it?

If Freeman flunks out Foreman has to step up. needs to get in weight room so he stops missing layups. And hope Laurent can score maybe what 12 points a game next year. Agree with GoRu, Sanders is best talent at guard in a long time. We have had Sherrod, Beatty and Coburn at guard. Corey is a very good talent.
