it was certainly very good yesterday but it pales when compared it to some early 90s tussles with SHU, Missouri, UNLV and Penn State
If the score was close down the stretch we might have approached them. The game was decided early enough for people to not go really crazy.
Nope. Here’s why:
- No students behind the home team bench
- Student section 20 feet behind the baseline and only 2/3 (?) of it was filled with students
- No students in the 300s
..I honestly think some people forget how insanely loud the RAC was some of those afternoons and nights.

Not disagreeing with this but if there were ever several nuclear detonations during a game a diehard will crawl from the wreckage claiming "yeah it was loud...but nothing like that UNLV game...."it was certainly very good yesterday but it pales when compared it to some early 90s tussles with SHU, Missouri, UNLV and Penn State

...BUT hey GREAT to see AND hear that type of atmosphere again!
There were a few!iirc there was a Syracuse game in the Waters era which was ridiculous loud as well. Deafening.
Anyone old enough to remember the 1989 PSU game is now old enough to be experiencing hearing loss. That's why yesterday's game didn't seem as loud.I have been at all but a few home games since the RAC opened in 1977. It is hard to compare the loudness level on yesterday's game against the 1989 PSU game or some of the older games vs Seton Hall or Las Vegas. They all were very loud as was yesterday's game. I've been at all of them and all of them plus yesterday's game were all extremely loud. I will not choose one over the others.
RU really needs to eliminate that gap to the student section. Deal with the cheerleaders somehow else. Even on TV it looks bad.Nope. Here’s why:

WHY WHY WHY did we push the student seats back? This was done years ago. Is it a safety issue with rushing the court? Is it just to have cheerleaders in that spot?Nope. Here’s why:

Remember the old days when the stands came right up to the baseline. Cheerleaders had less space, but they still cheered.Funny...lol...but in my case I’ve got phenomenal hearing so
ZERO reason they can’t be right behind the baseline.

2/3’s filled with students?? Please explain yourself.Nope. Here’s why:

I can't wait for more B1G schools to experience what Big East and A10 schools had to deal with back in the day. Several B1G schools question the size of our arena and the impact of the crowd on the game.I agree. I remember games vs Syracuse that we’re deafeningly loud. There have been many, many extraordinarily loud games at the RAC. We just haven’t had a lot of them in recent years because the team wasn’t competitive under Hill and Jordan. When our team is decent, the RAC is a weapon. Always has been.
No the wooden bleachers of the 100 level that were once filled with students are now bleachers with padded single seats (reduced capacity), making it easier to sit than to stand, and filled with big money old peopleOne question, and based on some assumptions: does the RAC still have the wooden flooring in the seating areas? Because I seem to recall us stomping on them repeatedly to raise the noise level even more...
Anyway, I haven’t been to a game since 1990 but the A-10 Championship game was the loudest event I’ve been to EVER for ANYTHING! And being in the band before all this canned music crap was also a reason to get the crowd riled up! When 8000 people are chanting “RU RAH RAH RU RAH RAH HOO RAH HOO RAH RUTGERS RAH! UPSTREAM RED TEAM RED TEAM UPSTREAM RAH RAH RUTGERS RAH!” during The Bells Must Ring is something to behold! Followed by half the crowd doing “R!” Followed by “U!”....
I have spoken.

Days before smart phones
Everyone actually watched the entire game and cheered rather than take video of it
There were a few!
Can't tell how loud it was from a video but my standard from being in the student section for Waters is "rock concert loud for entire possessions"
Yes and I really think the crowd was directly responsible for several Cuse turnovers down the stretch that helped ice the game. Very loud that night.iirc there was a Syracuse game in the Waters era which was ridiculous loud as well. Deafening.

Agreed. Still the high water mark to beat for me too.I wasn’t there yesterday but A10 final vs PSU will always be my barometer for loudest game. Couldn’t hear the person next to me.
There have been moments where the crowd should have been cheering but instead they trot longtime season ticket holders out to the court or when Bells should be playing we have the [fill in the blank] cam. Instead of cheering the crowd is staring at their phones or at the video board. One question, and based on some assumptions: does the RAC still have the wooden flooring in the seating areas? That Florida game was a very charged atmosphere with the Rosario angle. Plus Carter and to a lesser extent Seagears and Mack, all freshmen, legit outplayed Bradley Beal and Kenny Boynton. Add to that two OTs? Crazy game. I was up in the 300s for that one so I didn't get the full sonic experience but it was one of the more fun games I've been to. Man I was loving Mike Rice at that point.I think what we had in the late 80s/early 90s was sustainable noise for long periods. During some Bannon and Waters years it got crazy too but I dont think yesterday approached even those years because while loud at times, overall it wasnt sustained as long being that RU was comfortably in front for a long time (as someone said earlier if the game got close at the end....)
people have short memories...that said it was the best since Florida for me....people forget about that game, it was the Rosario return and it was absolutely insane in there as RU rallied to force OT and then win. I believe it was the night before the Pinstripe Bowl vs Iowa State
