NJH,

You dont want to remember tge Paul Mulcahy that put the team on his back in ‘21-22 or how he performed tge 1st half of ‘22-‘23.

You also say Cliff isnt a go to guy. He was when players got him the ball. Simpson isnt afraid to take a shot and that is the primary reason we suck on offense. Our point guards are bad offensive players who look for tgeir own shot over getting good shots for others.

I actually think it is fairly obvious.

Those numbers don't add up to points on the scoreboard....efficiency is one of many items you can point to.

The obvious takeaway for RU fans is the only thing that matters is how efficiency counts against Q4 opponents. And they're excited when the efficiency last year was "run up" because the staff attempted to mask the lack of depth....if the staff used its depth and took out players up 20, those efficiency numbers would have dropped.....having Cliff getting dunks up 25 and Cam hitting 5 threes vs Central Connecticut State is the standard.

Does anyone honestly believe that is the most effective way to use the roster?? I certainly don't.

But as I said, if Q4 games from last year to this year is the standard, then I will just disagree. You fans are correct, it's most important.
It’s not just the difference in how we performed in the cupcake games. In fact, the performance in cupcake games year over year is further evidence proving my point.

We were good enough last year to blow out cupcakes and then “pour it on” late. This year, we have struggled to score against several cupcakes, and so we’re not in a position to run up the score.

That aside, the efficiency number for last year takes into account 22-24 non-cupcake games, so even if there was a bump from the cupcake blowouts, that evened out with the rest of the schedule.

Further aside, what about the eye test? If you think this year’s offense is better than last year’s before Mag got hurt, you’re just wrong. I could use a more pejorative phrase for effect and humor, but “wrong” sums it up enough.

FACTS.....from jan1 thru Feb 4 (mag injury) we were 7-3 in B1G losing to Iowa 2X and at MSU. We beat Purdue on the road.

In that time period we had an adjusted offensive efficiency of 1.078 and a defensive efficiency of .881 (120th and 7th).

Paul Mulcahy over that 10 game stretch
11.8 PPG
5.3 APG
2.1 to per game

At this point last year Cliff had 35 dunks. He has 23 now. What the heck happened to faster players leading to more opportunities to Cliff?

Our guard play obviously has been just above horrendous. The expectation from Noah , the sophomore climb from Derek , the freshman impact of JMike derailed by the injury at Miss. State and the less than impactful overall impact offensively , defensively from Austin has all tanked downward. Our shooting has somehow become worse. We have played like the worst guards in the conference let alone not great against any other team in the nation. If that doesn’t improve , trouble is ahead.

Couple that with Gavin ‘s very slow start to his career. Everything I thought of him is not happening . He is playing robotic , throwing cross court high school passes that are easily intercepted, his failure to attack either the defensive or offensive glass is appalling . He is 6’7-6’8 . His reputation as one of the best shooters in the country coming in has not materialized. I think he is not positioned correctly with his body or feet and his utter failure to extend his follow through. He is side ways . Catch and shoot with total arms and no legs. That seems easily correctable with film study. However , he has to do more to impact his minutes on the floor especially rebounding.
Aundre has been remarkably our most consistent best player. He has hit threes and driven to the hoop a little better and starting to rebound a little better.
Cliff and Wolf has been an absolute disappointment especially how they are used and the utter failure of the guards to pass the ball to them properly ,

It was hard watching that game yesterday and not point out 10 things wrong. Almost unrecognizable. The rebounding issue not even addressed or attempted to resolve it. Pike bears some blame here coupled with an almost team wide player underachievement maybe excepting Aundre.
