I wonder how much of a role alcohol played in the actions of both?

Seems like Ray might be a good guy caught up in a drunken moment between him and his wife after they both indulged to much.
But even though I believe Ray's probably a good guy, not personally knowing him keeps me from claiming he is.
I just hope he is and will give him the benefit of doubt because of how his wife explained the incident , also because I never heard of any bad actions by him before that or afterwards .

I think he only averaged 3.1 ypc his last season. It wasn't his character that kept teams from bringing him back, NFL teams are pretty liberal on who they will let play, Rice just looked like he was done in his last season.

As a die hard Ravens fan, the Oline was not up to par that year. Ray didn't light it up, but the Oline wasn't helping. Nor were the receivers.
