Recruiting

Wonder if this NIL stuff is going to lead to top schools not even bothering to recruit anyone other than the elite guys. Might be better off not wasting resources and scholarships on guys who may not pan out at the next level when you can just throw a boatload of money at a proven commodity in the portal.

NIL is a disaster. Why not just have a formal online auction process where a player enters his name into an online auction portal and schools openly bid for those players. Going once…going twice…sold to the Wolverines!
Because the player has the final say, not the organization. But it sure feel like what you said, the highest bidder probably wins a great majority of the time. Amateur, collegiate athletics....what a joke.

Yep already a monster on the national scale.. now spends another year training all focus on wrestling.. by time he hits the mat for Penn state going to be a monster cog piece in their wheel.
Will be interesting to see if these kids can stay healthy. Wrestling is brutal on the body and kids are piling up the mileage at a young age. Tons of knee and shoulder injuries at districts, regions, and states this year. Look at a stud like PJ Duke who’s been wrestling and doing judo 24-7-365 since birth - he’s had several major injuries last two years.

Yep injuries are mostly up to chance though, unless there’s been a history of inj w/ someone. Seems like every year ppl r getting less n less matches in college thin, either to prevent inj or protect seeds… so really hoping the committee passes the MFF = loss next season

Michigan will still get beat by Penn Stste even with all of these transfers
They well get beat and it won’t even be close.. Penn state might even break scoring record.. they are competing w/ the 97’ hawks.. Michigan will only be competing for 2nd-4th trophy.

“Santaniello asked for his release from the national letter of intent about a week later, his father said.

It took Oklahoma almost a month to hire a new coach. Roger Kish, who was North Dakota State University’s head coach the last 12 seasons, was hired as the Sooners’ head coach Tuesday night.

Among the schools who have expressed interest in Santaniello, according to his father, are Pitt, Iowa, Nebraska, Rutgers and Michigan.”

Michigan again. Isn't he a lower weight where Michigan grabbed 2 of the lower weights from NW.

I'd guess Pitt with his brother. OU's Henson also entered the portal. This will be his 3rd school in 3 years as he transferred from Iowa after his RS freshman year.

Good point w/ his bro at Pitt that probably makes the most sense.. not sure if he would beat out Teske at Iowa but he does have sleeper potential.

Henson was a very sought after recruit coming out of hs and had a very good RS season.. maybe he would want to join his teammate, Butler, here?

It’ll get worked out. Suriano was able to get out of Penn State and transfer without penalty and that was after a year of wrestling for them. NCAA will do the right thing here and let them leave without penalty.
I'm sure it will, but it'll make for some interesting social media, and who knows how quickly.

Penn state didn’t deny the release and try to block the transfer …only thing the Surianos needed was to be cleared of transferring in conference, the Oklahoma AD can really hold him hostage if he wants

I like our recruiting momentum for the 2024-2025 year.

Per this week's Flowrestling high school ratings, we do not have one kid in the top 20 in any weight class enrolling this September.

We do have two kids ranked who will be enrolling for the 2024-2025 year.. They are Nini ranked # 11 @ 138lb. and Harer ranked # 9 at 152lb. Plus it seems we are in on other highly ranked kids.

Oklahoma gains absolutely nothing by blocking a decomittment other than making life difficult for an 18 year old kid. If they don’t release him they send a message to all future recruits - we really don’t give a shit about you

Who? Cerchio & Knox? What other schools are they considering?

Quite the revisionist history. Cael originally was blocking the in conference transfer. When everyone found out and he was made to look the bad guy only then did he change his mind. The clearing you’re talk about is psu had to OK it. Specifically the psu AD with Cael and then with the conference, they had the option to block it and originally did.

At one point Knox intent was UPenn but that’s going back. I wrote knoxes dad a few months ago and he told me he could not talk to colleges yet.

I told u like 2 years ago he told me u penn. And he works with lizak and McKenna. But maybe their failure to develop so many big recruits will have him rethink that.
Heard Knox is a heavy lean Iowa or ivies
as of a couple years ago, that was their hope, particularly UPenn. I can probably find more.

For Cerchio I know RU and Cornell were in his short list. Was another team too but can’t remember. I haven’t head much about where he plans in a while.

That's sounding like 0/2.

I think it would be a great fit both ways, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a fan.

I am hearing we are very in on the Knox recruiting and so is the Knox family. Until a Delbarton wrestlers comes to RU, will be skeptical....but this is closer than other Delbarton kids, so who knows.
I don’t think it’ll be a huge problem when he gets to college but I think the father wants the open communication Goodale has with the families. Not sure if the Iowa’s and Penn States of the world offer the same two way conversations

Agree and I hope my post did not come off against Knox family. The Dad when Anthony wrestlers for SJV is pretty hands off and sits in stands, unlike some other Dads we have had to deal with in the past

Plenty of Delbarton wrestlers have come to RU, it’s the Blair kids that we haven’t got a hold of..parents should let their kids have the final say especially when they could get a front row seat to the matches if they came here. Goodale is as open and transparent of a coach as it’s going to get. Anyways glad to hear we r on a lot of bluechippers list.. now just gotta close.

Since the Stoll era and Delbarton becoming a NJ powerhouse what blue chip wrestler has come from Delbarton? In Goodales first year-Melde(and he did not finish at Delbarton) and then Casale who also did not finish at Delbarton and would have gone to Lehigh if accepted. Am I missing someone? Could be, but I cannot think of one.
