Recruiting

Who is current 184 for OSU?
Well 4 time AA Dustin Plott, will graduate. Brayden Thompson was set to take over 184, but Ok State just had Facundo transfer in(rumor was he was going to go 174) since super recruit Ladarian Lockett has said multiple times he wants to go 165 and not redshirt. Ryder is a 174/184 so someone has to leave or sit if Ryder goes to Ok State.

All the NIL players use 3rd parties to contact athletes and it's not illegal at all. Coaches can't do it but boosters can. ASU turned Iowa in and the NCAA laughed boosters don't count 🤷
I have to admit Corby, you being a wrestling fan in general and of no particular program, I think it's quite noble of you to go from the Ok St board to the PSU board and now to the Rutgers board to defend anything and everything Iowa. :)

I dont think he was recruited over. Welsh reached out. What coach says no thanks to a returning finalist who has no disciplinary or academic troubles? it's not like this is a senior's spot after years of starting. Ryder has never started and is an underclassman.

Penn st helped develop him. Lots of wrestlers would love that chance. Now he can stay and compete for spot or leave and take that experience with him. Both choices are wins.

I dont think Cael is perfect but this is just complaining to complain. How could someone who has never started "lose" a spot?

Cael’s job is to improve the team and he does a damn good job at it. This move wasn’t even necessary but like I said ur just another cog in Cael’s machine at PSU.
Pretty much. Cael is going to collect talent and if anyone wants to walk, then they don’t have the makeup he’s looking for anyway. And if he loses a top 5 kid in the country in the process, he’ll just replace him with another top 5 kid.

Yup he was recruited over by Cael so I guess he is not the Saint everyone says he is.
Ryder best win in college to date is a 3 OT win over SCW ,after that his next best wins are pinning 12-12 TJ stewart and a 4-2 win over soldano, you are saying Cael needs to turn away a national finalist who basically wanted to walk on for a guy with that unproven of a track record ?

I believe the issue wrestling people have with Penn st fans is when others do it it's they're recruiting over guys and when it happens at Penn st it's well they wanted to come what are we supposed to do say no. When someone decides to go to a school it's because they want to go there regardless if it's Penn St or Sacred Heart

Kinda wild how some PSU fans will turn on Ryder now or view him as inferior prospect to Rocco. Before this it was Ryder is the future wooo woo woo(real ZR fans know) now it’s ppshh his wins weren’t good enough anyways lol.

Since we are critiquing wins, Rocco’s finalist* is fools silver. 3 SV, on the weaker side of the bracket, he coulda easily lost any of them and perceptions woulda changed big time.

Ryder was a loyal PSU soldier. Guess he has his reason now to go complete his career with DT. Woo woo woo!

Ryder gave up his senior year in high school to train at PSU so he was a dedicated guy to PSU was all I was referring to.

Log jams everywhere at PSU. I’m sure current recruiting class didn’t make Ryder feel too good especially when a kid like Jayden James could project as a 174.

I personally never complained about any school “recruiting over” anyone , it’s wrestling the best guy gets the spot

Just saying he hasn’t been a world beater in Folkstyle yet , hadn’t shown nearly enough that you turn down an ncaa finalist who apparently reached out to Penn state first . I’m not turning on Ryder by pointing out the fact his best win is in 3 ots over the ncaa 16th seed I will most likely being rooting for him against everyone but Penn state and NJ guys like i do for all the guys that leave Penn state

Outside of his ncaa title run Welsh has wins over AAs Kennedy, Wask,Ruth and Simon Ruiz and went 11-0 with all bonus wins this year so it’s a pretty impressive hit list so far …5 career loses 3 of them to national champs and 2 to Ruth which he avenged, all by 2 points or less ..just too good of a resume to turn away when he basically shows up at your door

Do y’all need him ? With the roster cap this year does he have a spot?
Agree, was not a high recruit out of HS and has wrestled 1 match in the last 3 years, so who knows how he looks. He is a 165/174lber so an area of need, probably would still make the 30 man roster. If he wants to come here with his brother, worth a shot.

I would "Assume" Eric G. would have started this year for RU.
I am not sure thou. Maybe i am giving too much credit to PSU Room Depth

PSU, OKST, Iowa, have simply become RTCs pretending to be college wrestling programs. I’m trying to understand what these wrestlers even have to do with the colleges they represent = supposedly they don’t or barely go to class, no academic casualties (seemingly ever) leads me to believe their grades are basically rigged so they don’t have worry about school work, zero loyalty as evidenced by the transfer portal, etc. I don’t see how sports like wrestling can survive at most schools outside of those with $$$ to burn. But, seriously, are there academic requirements anymore? Am we supposed to believe kids like Ferrari are attending classes and doing the coursework that other students are doing?

Operating under the current rules.

But mostly agree.

Very little oversight and doubt that improves much.

College wrestling as a whole is becoming a considerably worse product and it’s currently a runaway train with no sign of stopping. Unless you are PSU, Oklahoma State, or Iowa there is really no point of spending a ton of money because there is no chance to actually compete/challenge those programs.

It’s a sad/unfortunate reality.
