Reminder: MLAX vs. Maryland, 6:00 Saturday, ESPN2. B1G Championship on the Line

They were the better team today, but those two a-holes announcing were enough to make you vomit. Alleyne made some fine saves that they didn't even mention. In the first half when Maryland scored I thought the color guy was going to have an orgasm. Love to see us make the tourney. Either way this program is on the rise. Go RU.

As a Maryland fan I have to say that the one-sided commentary felt just as gross from the other side. You are right and it feels a bit embarrassing. As a Terp I'm more used to being the Washington Generals vs. Duke or UNC.

Great job, Rutgers lacrosse. Hope to see the Knights get into the NCAAs. I've lived in Jersey for a while now and love to see Rutgers do well!

I am thinking this is the Terps year. They seem to have everything. Depth, great goaltending, maybe the best defense, and a lot of playmakers. Plus you are on a roll. Success breeds success. Whoever beats them it is going to take a massive effort to do it. I like your chances.

Classy post. Good luck to the Terps in the NCAAs... Unless by chance we get in and see you guys again!

Maryland looked very strong this evening. Played well in all facets of the game. Their goalie was very solid. Jules seemed to be a non-factor the last two games. We actually held our own on face offs. Announcers were pro Maryland but they are the program with tradition. Those guys thought Hopkins was definitely in over us despite two losses head to head. I think they thought Marquette was likely in as well. Harvard seems like a key match and Navy and one other school was thought to be a similar position as we are.

Agreed. Terps were better team today. Better coached too perhaps. they really showed early they wanted to limit Rutgers chances in transition. They committed to it (coaching) and players executed it perfectly. Frustrating to watch from this side.

Quint was talking up one of our assistants (Jessie Bernhardt an ex MD Lax player) for the Jacksonville job. Evidently Princeton is expected to be open too and they thought the Marquette coach would be a candidate there.

Maryland should be the favorite to win the National championship.

Rutgers still has a great team this year, hopefully we will get a bid tonight.

Lax magazine still has us as the first team on the outside looking in .... hopefully the committee puts us in ahead of or instead of hopkins

I'll be annoyed if Harvard or even Hopkins gets in ahead of Rutgers...

They have Harvard getting in at 8-8. Might as well bend our entire program over and say "hahahahaha" if that happens.

Go Yale.

Harvard getting in at 8-8 is rewarding losing. In this age of parity, that can't be allowed.

What a SICK coast-to-coast play in 9.2 seconds, by Keasy, to give Yale a 7-6 halftime lead! Wow!

Since both my boy's play LAX they are members of US Lacrosse which gets them a subscription to the magazine.

Call me thin-skinned if you want but it always seems in all the years I have been reading the thing, it pains them a great deal to type/write anything positive on Rutgers.

We better be in ahead of Hopkins. If we get snubbed, the system is flawed.

According to the guy doing the Duke/BU game Hopkins is a lock (guess he thinks as others have that the B1G is a two bid conference?) and we should be strongly considered for the last remaining at large spot between us, Navy and Harvard.

Rutgets' problem is a very weak SOS. Except for the losses to Rutgers, Hopkins has a much stronger resume.

The Hopkins losses to Rutgers can be written off to match-ups. Rutgers beat Wisconsin in basketball last year, but that doesn't mean Rutgers should have received Wisconsin's NCAA bid.

Both Laxpower (website) and the ESPNU graphic shown at the end of the Yale-Harvard game shows Villanova, Hopkins and Rutgers fighting for the final at large berth. IMHO Hopkins is only there because of history. Two losses to one of the other two "finalists" should be dispositive. Villanova vs. Rutgers is about as tight as it gets. 9-5 record vs. 11-5 record. Villanova losses were to Harvard (OT), Brown, Marquette (twice) and Denver. Not a bunny in the bunch. They beat Penn State 19-9 early in the season. Rutgers had a stronger late season and made the tournament finals, but has the Princeton and Ohio State losses as blemishes. I think that's about as close as it gets.

A loss can but not losses. And RU MBB had a losing record.

Who left the window open? Looks like a Blue Jay flew in. ;)

Rutgers didn't beat Wisconsin TWICE last year

Rutgers wasn't ranked #16 in the country and 2nd place in the B1G in men's BB when they beat Wisconsin.

That's a horrible analogy. Our hoops team last year had a losing record. The lax team has a winning one.

The point was that head-to-head results aren't the definitive word in rankings.

UConn lost to Cinci twice in basketball last season but were ranked ahead of Cinci.

All things being equal, Rutgers would be ahead of Hopkins based on h2h wins. But all things aren't equal. Rutgers' biggest problem is weak SOS. That is why it is a close call on which team has the better resume.

It is a good example to show the absurdity of only relying on head to head results. Obviously Wisconsin was a much better basketball team, despite the loss to Rutgers.

It's even more absurd to do so with a losing team in a sport where 32 games are played compared to a winning team in a sport with 15 games. It's compounded when that winning team beat the team in question twice.

I think we understand your point about SOS potentially trumping head to head results but the Wisconsin basketball analogy is not a good one.

Let's use your analogy with Navy, Upstream. You've been refuted with JHU, most would agree. We have a stronger SoS than Navy, so we should be in before them right?
