Renovation survey-Jersey Mike's

It was a good, thorough survey (I got it, so it's being pretty widely distributed), but yes, it looks like some radical changes are in the offing. And that will have an effect on the atmosphere during the game.

It's not quite an apples-to-apples comparison, but here's what Seton Hall experienced in the move from the Meadowlands to The Rock. Beforehand, I always thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be great to have bars at the top of the first level, and all sorts of food offerings ringing the concourse?" And that's what we got in Newark. So, yay, beer and booze. I enjoy both.

But the downside of it is that it takes a lot of people out of their seats during game action, as opposed to just halftime. And the lower bowl is very sparse when the second half begins. And it makes a difference in the atmosphere the crowd provides. Looking at all these new entertainment/eating/drinking areas proposed for the RAC (and if they are showing them, they are doing them), I think it's going to take a lot of butts out of seats and have at least some deleterious effect on the RAC's notable acoustics-driven sound levels. How much is to be determined, I guess.

This is all likely to happen no matter what, but it'll be a different game-day experience once it does.
This was basically my takeaway. I think Carino said it in a video a few years ago, everyone at the RAC is there to watch the game and is fully locked in. Just won’t be the case anymore.

I have to read it first and see the details. Hope it's not more exciting for corporate partners than the regular season ticket holders who helped keep the lights on in that place through years of suckitude.
As Rutgers likes to say, “Money talks and bullshit walks”. when this team gets really good and competing for NC’s. Those loyal RU fans who literally kept the lights on when the team was the dregs, will have to pay up the increase in ticket prices or else they will be left behind. Rutgers gives no points for loyalty, as my buddy was bumped from his seats and parking when football got good in 2006.

Lots of hyperbole and sky is falling in this thread.
1. Rutgers does give loyalty points in our priority point totals.
2. The building seats about 8k and the net result is adding 300 seats to the building.
3. We own “season” tickets, not “lifetime” tickets.
4. They will undoubtedly do a “full reseating” so everyone will be able to pick where they want to sit and pay what they want to pay.
5. The “full reseating” selections will happen in priority point order with everyone given time slots to easily select online or call your rep/the ticket office.
6. Many many many football and basketball programs do a “full reseating” every 4-6 years.
7. If anybody wants to sit in the same general location that they do today, you have been given years notice! Check your priority points, talk to your rep, increase priority points if you desire, start making decisions now to get what you want in a few years.

I think there is a lot of overreaction on this thread, but I think SNobbs caused a lot of this by sending out a stupid survey to regular, loyal fans that was really only meant for the '1%' and corporate partners. SNobbs is not unlike other bosses I've had where they ask my opinion or have a meeting, but really don't want to hear other's opinions because they have their mind made up already. They are really only listening to people who agree with them to reinforce their decision, and zoning out all the rest. In the end very tone deaf survey that only caused unnecessary hysteria among the fan base - stupid!

Yes, tickets will be more expensive but to think that this is going to become the MSG of college is silly. The regular fans will not be priced out. SNobbs and crew may have a short memory, but most of us other fans do not. This is a golden age for RU Basketball, and while we are all enjoying it - this was preceded by decades of dark ages. Yes, I understand going after the corporate partners, the Whale donors, and the $$$, but you have to continue to fill the stadium. SNobbs already tipped his hand that Rutgers will be Rutgers, and make dumb mistakes perfectly shown by the survey he sent out - let's just hope he doesn't do too much damage.

SNobbs and crew should really not forget the landscape of where we are - this is not Kansas or Iowa or Ole Miss. - this is far from the only game in town. You are a stones throw away from NYC and Philly meaning that when the Basketball season is going on there are literally 4 pro hockey teams and 3 pro NBA teams that people can go to. Most of the people on here love RU and will support them through thick and thin - the corporate partners will leave without even a note if Rutgers goes back to its default losing ways of the past 30 years. And when that happens nobody is coming to a game to see there team get blown out with exorbitant ticket prices and out of touch parking prices.

The sense of urgency to bring in Ace and Harper may be starting to come into focus. This feels like the AROD/Yankees signing of them building the new stadium. I think we are all excited for next year, but this feels like an end to justify the means. I think we all know very well getting players like Ace and Harper is far from the norm here - but it feels like it was necessary to bring them in so SNobbs could justify building his Corporate Castle. On the surface and for the basketball program it's mind blowing to have Ace and potentially Harper, but it's tough not to read between the lines here.

This post has gone on long enough - I won't even get into questioning building a 1%/Corporate Castle with such a small arena. Or that sports programs are supposed to be the best publicity for the school - and it just doesn't get any better than the current form of the RAC/JMA. I fully expect Rutgers to be Rutgers on this unfortunately - they will do damage and SNobbs will push his tone deaf agenda. I don't think the regular fan is going to be pushed out, but I fully expect changes and price increases - that is coming as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow. The only thing to see is how much damage SNobbs and crew will do to what is now a close to perfect atmosphere. I'm hoping for the best, but expecting the worst - truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Looks great…badly needed upgrades…will still be loud as heck…the RAC will continue to be a unique venue among college arenas. Those of you who attend all the games will LOVE it!! 🥳

Redo the upper portion above 118 and put all of the luxury options there. In addition, close the corners on the opposite side and add additional loge/premium seating over there. Let’s be honest, suits don’t really care if they’re at mid court. Keep the currents seating largely the same but improve chairs, amenities, etc.

The way these things usually work is these decisions are probably already made on the general idea of what the new RAC will look like . The surveys and visioning is just posturing so they can say they got buy-in from the fans.
The rac won’t be the rac we know and love anymore . Just have to get used to it.
Sadly , the people that sit in what I refer to the “middle class “ seats in the 200 level will probably get screwed the most.

This is not an 8,000 person decision.

The AD creates a strategic plan in the best interest of operating the program. They use the knowledge and input they have received from fanbase and consultants to lay out that plan (renovation not away from stadium vs building new as an example of that input).

Then when the plan is set, they go back to the fans with a survey to tailor what they can in the strategic plan to the preferences of the fan base the best they can.

This is basic stuff.

It’s important they do it this way because the fanbase is already illustrating a lot of selfishness and self-righteousness in their thought process rather than consider the importance of driving the program and athletic department forward.

Sorry but you lost me when you stated that we are only bringing in Ace and Harper (who's not even committed mind you) based on Hobbs wanting to do renovations at the RAC. The constant use of SNobbs also makes you just seem agenda driven and IMO distracts from the valid points you do make.

Maybe the survey is designed to highlight how major renovations and efforts to shoehorn all sorts of luxury amenities into a space not capable of accommodating them and generating lots more revenue is neither feasible or practical. Leading to one conclusion - the RAC needs to be replaced by a new facility with all the revenue-generating bells and whistles.
And an ice rink!!!🤣
