RichRod said no to South Carolina

He publicly turned down the offer, so he must be getting a raise or it was a crappy offer.

It didn't sound like he's getting a raise but you never know. He said on the plane ride back he decided to stay at Arizona. The AD also said something to the effect of "great news he didn't not to commit to an offer from USCe." It sounded more like "whew" than we did what we needed to keep him in Arizona. You never know but it just didn't have the feel that Arizona did anything particularly special to keep him.

If that's the case frankly, I agree with them. I've said before there's only so far you should go and sometimes you should let these coaches go. Same for Fedora. He's had a very good season but a 7 year contract off 1 year? Seems long to me. I hope there's a reasonable buyout in there for their sake if it turns south.

the thing with RR is that he learned his lesson. unlike a young guy who thinks invincible. RR thought he can parlay his success at WVU to Mich. learned that there are things outside of his control. is USCe better than UA? his perspectives on BETTER prolly changed over the years. he is no young pup. he is choosing carefully.

Wow. I thought they'd offer Muschamp first
I'm guessing he's probably next on their list. He said he's going to be different about his offense this time around. I'm guessing that means he'll be using some sort of spread if he gets the chance again.

If he winds up at USCe the SEC east is going to be the Nick Saban school of coaching with Muschamp, McElwain and Smart.

Muschamp gets the spot - and now the cupboard is bare - unless you would like a serving of East Carolina ... or BYU(?) . .... interesting how few HC vacancies were created via the hiring process - especially with the high number of openings.

And - there are some significant names continuing to circle in a holding pattern - some anxious to land - some with enough fuel (severance) to wait quite a while.
- plus some may have ended up being unavailable to make any serious effort to be considered because they were up to their eyeballs in championship / final game prep.

Wonder if Ash takes a look at one of the more "seasoned" veteran coaches who are looking for a role and gives them a spot to re-position themselves by making a contribution to a rebuild.
