from a couple nights ago. I dont know who theyre playing but the team doesnt look very good. What stands out to me is how smooth he is finishing at the rim in transition for a kid his size. Hes very thick, what is his real height? 6'5?

Smooth is the right word to describe RHJ.

Some athletic guys just naturally carry extra weight but I gotta believe he'll trim down slightly and get more cut during his time here.

We know he will have to dedicate himself to working hard on defense and rebounding to earn PT with Pike. But it sure seems like he has a head start with offensive skills that we desperately need.

I think they played Patterson Kennedy. They are usually pretty decent but not great . Harper looks smooth but definitely needs to sculpt his body which he should be able to do in a college weight room . Seems like he has all the Jelly finishes working .

Has skills. Different build than his pops but should be solid when he gets in the strength and conditioning program at RU.

GO RU

His has deceivingly good hops. He will be a solid player when he transforms his body

Love the way he can switch hands at the last second around the basket, that' s a really difficult thing to do for an 18 year old. The nice thing is that we don't need him to play a huge role here next year. With his shooting ability I don't think he will be redshirted but will be interesting to see how the staff uses him. Is he strictly a guard or can he play SF?

He's got length, skill, and can shoot. I'd probably say he's 85% to not redshirt.

Kid is looking real good. He's going to be a force by the time he is leaving the banks. Great size, finish, and poise. No way he red-shirts, but hard to say how many minutes he'll get early on.

Pikiell will really transform the play of Harper Jr.

Next year, he will be asked to get a couple rebounds, defend at a high level. If's not an if, but when. He wants to play, so the buy in will be quick I am sure.

It will be tough to predict minutes given how many guards there are. I could see Pikiell playing 3 guard sets quite often with the players he has. Nonetheless, he will get some burn.

His offensive skills are too good to pass up. He stands out on the court in HS, which is the first prerequisite. The game looks like it comes so easy to him, and it looks like he is barely trying. He has high potential to be a great contributor here on the banks. Baker had an offensive skill set like his in HS. Still, I would say offensively he is the best we have had in five years coming in. 3, jumper, finishing with both hands, slams. Very deceptive athleticism as some have mentioned. He goes from ground to dunk without a ton of effort.

Hard to beat.

He looks like he’s getting better and better but I agree that the other team on that clip doesn’t look good at all. My only question is what his defense is going to be like with the fast guards in the Big 10. Will he be able to defend them? He does have a thick body and if he gets into better shape which I think he will, he has great potential. That’s NBA size for a guard. Great to have tall guards.

Its pretty rare for a hoops kid to redshirt. I can't think of more than a couple kids on basketball scholarship at RU in the last 30 years that have ever redshirted who were healthy.

Need him in a little better shape but the touch, feel and IQ seem to be there.

Send him the S&C packet asapppp. Hopefully a good get from Pike.

Still blown away by his Baker find.

doesnt wisconsin typically do a lot of redshirting?

No chance he red shirts. That would be a very bad sign. There are only 13 scholarships, Souf and Bullock take 2 of them, at least for the moment, so we can't afford additional non-productive players. And this is not football, red shirts are rare except for injury.

This has me wondering, does Dell Curry have any other Sons?

The thing that makes me excited about the kid coming into Pike's program is that PIKE is excited and high on him.

I agree. I'd put more money on Issa red shirting than him.

I think it will take 1-2 years for RH to reach his potential. Think about what his body will look like after proper training. Don't get me wrong. The skill is there, but he should blossom at RU. I like his foot work! I

I was just going to say this, he has that “baby fat” on him. I think he could come in like Eugene, where it takes him a year to adjust and transform his body and game and then be a real contributor for us.

One is Myles.. So the staff hasn't shown a fear of it

Saw him play in person last week. I would agree with all of the checks except not sure of the unselfish. Didn't look like a real hard worker either, and was the last guy back on defense much more often than not. I would expect, however, Pikiel to fix both of those things and he will be a very good player for us. The talent is certainly there. Great shooter with NBA 3 range.

Disappointed to hear. Sounds like he either just makes it look easy or needs a serious lessen in leadership. We'll see.

Not every 17-year old has "leadership" qualities. Actually, the vast majority DO NOT have them, let's be real.

I think the perfect elixir for Harper is Thiam and Peter Kiss.....one has to work tirelessly to add strength and size and started out one dimensional as a shooter....and instead of staying one dimensional, Thiam has decided that at 6'10", he can grab a few rebounds and be a plus defender, because his long arms have the ability to bother shooters....he's on the right path towards a contributing upperclassmen next year.

Kiss is the prototype player that has a blend of Harper and Thiam....he can dribble, shoot, pass, defend, but has not done any of those items at a dominate level, but isn't going to hurt you in any of them....he is going to be the player that Harper ultimately works towards becoming, because Harper's a larger version of Kiss....

Once Harper realizes how much work has to be put in to succeed at a B1G level, is when he becomes a factor....that doesn't need to happen at Bosco, but the ideal situation is here....

For the first time in seemingly forever, a Harper-type of player comes in without the pressure of playing or just plays out of necessity or lack of depth....whatever Harper does best to start with, is where his role can begin....if he embraces the conditioning and work ethic, he develops into a player that plays every game and becomes a key piece of the rebuild.

He can shoot and on that alone, with the way the roster is being built, he will definitely play, especially if teams decide to play zone against RU.....we are looking at 20 B1G games (edited and removed Stony Brook away), Seton Hall away, Fordham away, UMass away and perhaps the B1G ACC game away next year....these are learning curve games and practices that are great for a freshman to break into.

There's going to be a much more challenging slate that will require players like Harper to come in ready to help out....I don't see a situation (unless another 4 star player falls into our laps after attrition), where he doesn't fit into what has to happen here at RU next year and beyond. He's got too many tools to work with and just needs to get here and get to work....

Sorry, didn't mean to be critical of a 17 year old and your point is taken. If what Chow says is correct, then I'm still disappointed. You're not a little alarmed at "last one back on D"? Unless you're Kareem Abdul Jabar, it's not OK.

Agree with that BUT maybe it’s just a conditioning thing? Which isn’t good, you would think the son of the former ballplayer knowing he’s getting big time offers would have himself in better shape, but that’s just the laziness thing And simply won’t cut it once he’s played his last game at this level.

Since when are we playing at Stony Brook again next season? I thought this was only a two year contract.

Harper will not play guard for us, as he doesn’t seem to have the quicks to guard college guards. Seems like strictly a WF who will be in the WF rotation with Thiam and Kiss.

I like the ability to finish around the basket. Wish there were some long range jumpers on that tape.
