RU fb Press conference now

Coaches Ash, Mehringer and Niemann hit it out of the park. Very excited for next year. Coach Ash reiterated there will be no talk of bowls or winning championships--just get better each day, and those things will eventually happen. A real straight shooter, no BS. He and his staff will connect well with recruits.

Also, not sure if I heard this right--Did Ash say they could take 25 in this class? He said he does not care how many they take in this class. They are not going to take anybody just to fill the class. They want the right players for there system. So if there are 25 spots (if that is right), they are not fixated on taking 25 pleayers.

I think you heard right (if you could make out what he was saying between the adagio crescendo of thumping and heavy breathing going on in that room).

lol the "podium thumping" you 2 guys were whining about I literally forgot about it until there was about 2 minutes left in the presser. That's how unnoticeable it was and, even then, I had to actually listen for it and it was barely audible IMHO.

:D

They must have remixed the audio before posting it. Because trust me, it was very loud and very annoying live. Or maybe I just have my bass turned up too high.

I wouldn't be surprised, this is right out of Urbans playbook. He has said before it isn't about the number of players you bring in, it's about bringing in players that fit into what you want to do.

Urban's a Marley fan too?

Seriously though. It's easy for him to say that. OSU never has a problem bringing in a full roster of players that fit what he wants to do. Harder to say that when you're looking at 25 open scholarships.

Take your Urbans back to Columbus. Please.

So I take it what could happen is that they leave some unfilled this year and use them next year when they've had a full cycle to dissect and recruit.

Yes, if some spots are not filled then it leaves more to take next year. Scholarship count is not by year it is total scholarships on the team. Tressel used to always leave 1 or 2 scholarships open to award to senior walk-ons in the spring.

I thought all three came across well. The DC has a quiet confidence about him and I feel better about his hire after listening to his portion of the presser.

Love how the staff comes across. You can tell they have fire, but it isn't typical Jersey tough guy stuff.

Funny, engaging, and interesting. Certainly a change from the past.

1) The loud audio of the tapping on the podium is an AUDIO problem. The mike should not be picking up that sound. It should be isolated from the podium. Something for the RU A/V guys to fix.
2) No one mentioned Drew Mehringer's ears. I have worked for two guys with ears like that (one was Ross Perot) and I can guarantee that he will be very successful. Anyone remember Alfred E. Newman?
