Our wrestlers open up at 9:45 with George Mason and finish up at 11:45 with # 8 ranked Cornell.
George Mason has only wrestled in the Navy Classic where they finished 8th behind winner Princeton. They have a heavily laden senior team with several tough wrestlers. We have superior depth and talent and hopefully can give some of our backups in the upper weights a chance should our lead going into 174 is big enough to guarantee a victory. Cornell is generally recognized as the jewel of the east and has been ranked as high as #1 in the past few years. They return NCAA champ and # 1 ranked gabe Dean at 184 and # 4 ranked Nashon Garrett up this year at 133. He has been 2nd in the NCAAs and is a multiple year AA. Recently 157 pounder Palacio dropped out of school due to injury which will hurt Cornell in team bouts. Our Richie Lewis will face his backup, Chris Dowdy there, a break for us. It will take a superior effort from us to beat them and we must be on our A game and not yield bonus points to Garrett and Dean.
Projected Lineups:
George Mason:
125 Sean McCabe vs Ibraham Banduka R-So
133 Anthony Giraldo vs Vinnie Rodriquez R-Sr (one of their best guys and 2nd in Navy Classic)
141 Anthony Ashnault vs Tejan Anthony R-Fr
149 Tyson Dippery vs Kenbeth Korong R-Sr
157 Rich Lewis vs Greg Flournoy R-Sr (their best guy)
165 Anthony Perrotti vs Patrick Davis R-Jr
174 Phil Backukas or Anthony Parfumi vs Ryan Forrest R-Jr
184 Nick Gravina or Anthony Messner vs Luke Ludke R-Jr or Andrew Thomas R-So
197 Hayden Hrymack vs Cameron Houston Fr or Anthony Rossi Jr
285 Billy Smith or Ralph Normandia vs Matt Voss R-Fr
Cornell
125 McCabe vs #18 Dalton Macri (PA State Champ, key bout here)
133 Giraldo vs Nashon Garrett ( multiple year AA and beat Delvecchio 6-1 this year)
141 Ashnault vs Mark Grey or Will Koll
149 Dippery vs Joe Galasso (key bout as Galasso beat Dip several years ago in PA State finals in OT)
157 Lewis vs Chris Dowdy ( a must win here for us to have a chance to win the meet)
165 Perrotti vs #18 Duke Pickett (another must win for us)
174 Backukas vs #13 Brian Realbuto (he is up 2 weights and had wars with AP last year)
184 Gravina vs #1 and NCAA champ Gabe Dean UGH
197 Hrymack vs Joe Taylor or Owen Scott (another key bout and must win for us)
285 Smith vs Jeramy Sweany (a freshman that Smith needs to score bonus points)
It should be an exciting give and take and hopefully we will give more than we take.
