RU up 24-3.
184: Pafumi vs jermaine john a redshirt junior.
Pafumi gets first two points

Pafumi gets tilt and td. Wins tech 16-1 after 7 min.

197: Hrymack vs high school teammate Oxley. Hrymack gets first two points

Hrymack cuts him then gets quirky takedown. Up 10-2 plus riding. Io let out, then taken down again 13-3 final,
RU up 33-3

285: Wes Bernard vs mike Hughes. So no redshirt for Wes. Hughes is bigger than Wesley and pushing him back a bit. Conditioning will be important.

Hughes rides him all second, then gets quick escape. Bernard down 2-0 with riding

Sumo in the third...no offense by Wes at all. Finally a stretch shot with 3 sec...loses 2-0.
Ru 33. Hofstra 6

Even with two starters out we looked GREAT. Dominating matches. Excellent start to the season. Good to see Ashnault get pushed then respond at the end. Heck of a start to the season.

Thought the Del Vecchio and Ash matches were the most exciting. Nice job by the upper weights starting with Orr and then Bakuckas. Lots of points there. Is Hrymack our 184 when Camp is eligible?

I believe January 1st, which means he'll be back just in time for B1G conference play which begins the 2nd against Iowa.

Yes Hayden goes at 184 and Camp will wrestle the Wilkes Open the end of December and then Iowa dual will be first dual on Jan 2.

How bad is Smith's injury? He's on crutches.

A bunch of exciting matches. Ash didn't have his usual aggression & O until the 3rd period; very strange match & very glad he pulled it out.

There's no love lost between DelVecchio & Passaro.

Orr's win was very impressive since he worked out most of the day to make weight at the last minute so he dropped a lot.

Q and A was good, coach Goodale went up and down the match-ups. Let us know about the injuries to Gravina and Smith. Explained the 133 decision. Then took questions and answered honestly.

He he mentioned that Bernard would wrestle for Smith, so I asked if the match is out of reach would it make sense to forfeit 285 to not burn the red shirt? Coach said if he thinks Smith will be out more than this match he will need Wesley so he would get him a match (paraphrasing).

At the Q and A my son and I sit at a table with some other people as it was a little crowded. One guy has on Hofstra shirt the other has on Oklahoma State (they were with a 3rd guy). Turns out the Ok State guy was Nick Piccinninni's dad, he was there with Passaro's dad (the 3rd guy with no team shirt). They were very nice and talked to my son and I. So here is the part that has me scratching my head. They are leaving to go over to the match so I ask Mr Piccinninni "if you don't mind me asking how much did Rutgers recruit Nick?" He says to me "not one phone call, and Nick would have considered Rutgers". Not sure why he would say that to me if it wasn't true. Not looking to cause controversy but thought that Needed to be shared.

So what happened to Ash during his match? His opponent came at him and he seemed go back and landed hard on the mat. I thought he hit the back of his head really hard but then it was obvious he sustained some type of cut on his forehead? How did that happen?

Took a real hard head butt. And then the guy appeared to keep poking him in the eye.

Gravina shoulder, same one that he hurt in the past but coach didn't seem to be too worried. And Smith, coach didn't say what but WNG mentioned it was a freak thing that he hurt it jumping rope Saturday night.

Thanks for the run down ! And who the heck knows about Nick Piccinninni (sp?), maybe Goodale didn't think they had a shot, maybe grades, maybe no room, who knows. Why was his dad there in the first place? Buddies with the Hofstra kids family?
Anyway, the Oklahoma match in NY on Nov 29 will be a good indicator where the team is at. Just hope Smith is back for that. Gravina too, although I don't think there is much dropoff if any , with Orr in there.

Great info for those of us who couldn't make the skull session, obrats. Smith definitely looks like he'll be out for a few weeks. How the heck did we not recruit Piccinninni??? I definitely need to hear more about that.

I'm going to guess re: Piccinninni, that we wanted to save money this year for some guy named Suriano. Plus there's Paetzell.

I have zero wrestling connections outside of this board, so in truth, I don't know.

PhilaPhans

Hard to know with Piccinninni, as TTFP was thought to be an early favorite but he never made an official visit there (strange). It's shocking if we never reached out. As for saving $ for Suriano, I'm not sure about that, as either could eventually be 133 anyway. Also, while we seem to be in a good position with Suriano & his teammates, we were in a really good position with McFadden who decided on VT, so nothing is a given until the LOI is signed. Therefore, you can't really take the save $ approach.
