125 Nick Suriano
133 Scott DelVecchio
141 Mike Van Brill
149 maybe Eleazar DeLuca
157 John Van Brill
165 Richie Lewis
174 maybe Joseph Grello or Jordan Pagano
184 Nicholas Gravina
197 none unless Kevin Mulligan earns spot in B1G Tourney
285 none unless Razohnn Gross earns spot in B1G Tourney

Who do you think will qualify for Rutgers this year ?

Maybe Deluca? I think Deluca makes top 8 at Big Tens and I think that would be enough to qualify this year.

6 wrestlers from big ten last year got bids last year, not including at-large bids.

I think 149 is a qualifier for sure. I also think Pagano should wrestle in March over Grello (mainly because of seniority. I don't think we get a ton more from Grello and Pagano knows what March is about. Grello only beat Pagano by 1 in wrestle-offs if I remember right?)

Mulligan and Gross won't qualify.

I also am not sure we qualify 141. Mikey is good, but who has he beat?

I think they should stick with Grello although I understand your point. Tough call. If you look at RPI, Mulligan qualifies but needs at least a 70% win percentage or top 32 ranking as well to secure a bid for the conference. It’s doable so he has a shot. MVB has beaten a top 20 guy in Austin Headlee from UNC and is on the cusp. He will have to auto qualify which means top 5/6 at the BIG. Tough, but can be done.

Mike Van Brill beat
#35 Mike Longo Oklahoma
#32 Mike Pongracz Chattanooga
and recently
#19 AC Headlee North Carolina

His win over Headlee showed that he is getting better.

149 in the B1G will be top 9 get in. Super deep weight.

Same with 165 and 184.

I'll hope for at least 7 Rutgers qualifiers:

125 Nick Suriano
133 Scott DelVecchio
141 Mike Van Brill
149 Eleazar DeLuca
157 John Van Brill
165 Richie Lewis
174 maybe Joseph Grello or Jordan Pagano

Best guy wrestles... Right now that's Grello... Pagano knows how it works... It was only a year ago he took the 174 spot from Backukas... And I think your wrong... Grello is just starting to click a lil for him...

Grello beat Pagano by 1 point in the Black Knight Invitational.

Pagano is currently sitting out with an injury and I heard he is already walking around at 195, so I don't think we are seeing him at 174 this year.

My WAY TOO EARLY thoughts are as follows:

125 Suriano - will place 1-3. Obviously we all hope for our 1st NC, but that will come down to the tourney. Whoever wins it will have to be on fire and steal it from the others.

133 Scott D - possible R12 at this point. Heading in to the year, I would have said definite R12, probable AA, but he is just not looking great right now. He needs to ramp it up in a big way.

141 MVB - possible NCAA qualifier - he is coming on a bit, but needs to keep the momentum moving forward. Let's not forget #20 Headlee was what, first match back off injury? Needs to keep getting better, and needs a good BT tournament to get to NCAA on an auto bid. 1-2 at NCAA.

149 DeLuca - Definite NCAA Qualifier. Definite sleeper candidate for the tournament. He could go pretty far if he has a good tournament. Kid has the chops, but like others, needs to get better between now and then to make any noise.

157 JVB - Definite NCAA qualifier. I don't think he makes it to R12, but should have a good showing in March. He is ultimately a beneficiary of Lewis's questionable decision to move up.

165 Lewis - R12. I just don't think he can AA at this weight. He would have been a sure fire AA at 157, and possibly a high AA. Its a shame. We will see though...he does seem to be filling out and getting stronger. This Sunday will be a big test and show us where he stands. His advantage is that he is a total nut job, lol, so anything is possible in March... a lot like Perrotti. Brackets will be extraordinarily important with respect to how he places at NCAAs, as he is technically very very good.

174 Grello - NCAA Qualifier. It seems to me Grello is coming on in a big way. Just my opinion, but I don't think there is any chance we go back to Pagano. That is moving backwards. March will be a great experience builder for a young guy who is just starting to scratch his potential. But I have always been a big Grello believer, even when a lot of people were down on him.

184 Gravina - R12, possible AA. Gravina has R12 written all over him. If he gets a big upset, he will AA. I just don't know if he can do it at this point. Will depend on how well he stays out of trouble with his shoulder early on in the tournament. A couple easy wins out of the gate could make a huge difference. Beyond that, his offense is always going to hold him back.

197 Mulligan - who knows. Correnti came on out of nowhere last year, and made us all believers, after we were thinking bust. Maybe Mulligan can do the same. 197 is a hard weight to win at when you are young. That said, the effort looks pretty damn bad on the mat, and you can see the coaches are not pleased with him (although they were positive after the Nebraska match). They are pushing him hard right now it seems. Things will have to change significantly for him to be a factor for us.

HVY Gross - Sad to say no NCAA. I was very hopeful for him with the way last year ended, but it doesn't seem to be coming together for him this year.

Yep, best guy wrestles, but I wonder if Grello beats Pagano because they practice together? Or if he is actually better. If its close, you go with the guy who can advance in the tourny.

I disagree with RL.. he beat 10,11,12 ranked wrestler and lost only to Marinelli, whom we don't know how good really is yet.... he's in thick of things to AA imo but I guess we will find out where he really stacks vs Joseph

At this point I would be surprised if DeLuca doesn’t qualify. I firmly see him as blood round potential. He was one bad move from winning vs. Nebraska.

Grello is improving weekly. Love how Pagano came on last year but I think Grello is firmly taking control of his lineup spot.

Lewis will AA this year. I wasn’t sure a few weeks ago but he’s just starting to round into form.

I think we will get 7 wrestlers, maybe 8 into the dance. MVB right now is the only question mark IMO. Mulligan and Gross won't make it to NCAAs.

Any chance Pagano moves up to 197 next year as a senior? Mulligan needs to hit the weight room HARD in the off-season.
