Just sayin’
Noticed it on The Round Table too.
Lotta redshirts and freshmen.

I hear you on this, but feel this type of mentality permeates (and understandably so) our fanbaseYeah I agree. The players won’t care about the AD per se. But it would be so Rutgers like for us to finally crack the top 25 or some other great milestone and instead of the news articles being about that - this would be when the SL would roll out some bomb story. Maybe I just worry too much - but I feel like that kind of thing has happened to us often throughout our history.
In the words of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush-this song is a great salve during rough times:Yeah I agree. The players won’t care about the AD per se. Did he get accused of something that I missed or has it just been Reddit and our message board? If he did what he's being accused of, I wish it would all be swept under the rug for the sake of W's and success
Call me crazy, but I think we're starting to get to the point as a fanbase
In the landscape of big-time college athletics, results are what matters - not infidelity, divorces, cheating, etc.
It's all about winning
Virtue signaling is noble and all, but public positions at public universities interest the public. If his private life was of no consequence, it wouldn't be discussed. However in this case, it may have been. His contract was worded in a way where it is. His exit could affect some of the programs many of us follow.
It's not a conspiracy theory to question things when they appear out of the ordinary. Press releases and media aren't always factual. People quoting them as gospel must live in a different universe than the one where these things are frequently used to control narratives. Skepticism is warranted.
With that said, if all the smoke is nothing but rumors and he truly did step down for ONLY health related concerns, it's pretty terrible to kick a guy while down for entertainment. Even with no rumors, the way it was handled would raise suspicion and a similar conversation would go on.
It was sold as serious enough to abruptly resign so yeah, the assumption would be that’s it’s quite serious.
Nothing formal (thankfully) as of yet, and hopefully everDid he get accused of something that I missed or has it just been Reddit and our message board?
If I found out I had a worsening heart condition and the stresses of my job would make it even worse, and, I am already set for life $$$$ - my wife would insist I walk into the office and give my notice.Serious. Sure. Catastrophic health emergency that he can’t travel? That’s just a dumb assumption
No one suggested that he can’t travel but the timing of the trip can be viewed as a bit curious.Serious. Sure. Catastrophic health emergency that he can’t travel? That’s just a dumb assumption
Is it being reported, or threat of it being reported, the reason for the resignation? Chicken and egg.If it results in a resignation of someone in the corporate hierarchy it is often reported. What we don't know is if that is relevant here
No one suggested that he can’t travel but the timing of the trip can be viewed as a bit curious.
You have NO idea if there will be " functions" to honor Hobbs.Huh? No - not at all. If there’s another reason for Hobbs leaving Schiano wouldn’t be at liberty to share it publicly. He and Pike would be handling the situation appropriately and with class. It’s not their job to communicate the details of their boss’ departure.
To be clear - Hobbs surely has some kind of documented heart issue and likely had a recent test done. Rutgers wouldn’t make something like that up entirely. And his doctor probably did advise him to reduce stress. There’s no explanation for the Friday thing or the rest of the weirdness though. If it was simply Hobbs wishes to get this overwith and not be in the spotlight, Holloway’s announcement would’ve said something like - “out of respect for Hobbs privacy and his request to be left alone to focus on his health and family - we will not be holding any functions to honor his tenure - however that doesn’t take away from our gratitude for the wonderful things he did for Rutgers. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time”. That’s not how it was positioned.
I hear what you're saying. But the cover up is always worse than the crime. And we aren't in Norman, OK. The local media will not let this go away quietly. So, you're saying we've finally learned how to handle sh*t sandwiches like the big boys do? No media leaks, clean up in house, tell the media to fvck off nothing's going on. When the story does come out, it's week's old and we've already handled that and moving on.
So far you missed nothing.Did he get accused of something that I missed or has it just been Reddit and our message board?
Blame it on Hobbs. He started this mess. This whole thread is a train wreck
No one suggested that he can’t travel but the timing of the trip can be viewed as a bit curious.
But the travel...Depending on the diagnosis, when it was diagnosed/treated, how stable it is and what the prognosis is going forward, a worsening heart condition typically wouldnt have someone skipping off to Ireland, away from their medical specialists. If I found out I had a worsening heart condition and the stresses of my job would make it even worse, and, I am already set for life $$$$ - my wife would insist I walk into the office and give my notice.
Bingo - press will dig and dig until they find something or nothing.I hear what you're saying. But the cover up is always worse than the crime. And we aren't in Norman, OK. The local media will not let this go away quietly.
My uncle Pete (God rest his soul) had a quote that comes to mind: "The little hole will put you in a big hole."
doesn't matter where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Did he get accused of something that I missed or has it just been Reddit and our message board?
Relaxdoesn't matter where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if it was posted anywhere on the internet it must be true and many in this thread are finding ways to make that a valid statement.
An article exposing Hobbs was claimed to be the reason he retired, yet no article has come forward , so his trip to Ireland is proof he didn't retire for medical reasons.
Hell the conspiracy theorists might be right, but I'll wait for the article and/or other facts to come out before believing Hobbs didn't retire for heath reasons
It is kind of sad to see how with the slightest of evidence, sometimes it's just what someone says on the matter without proof, public figures are accused of things and that is considered part of the game.Relax
The guys a public figure - this comes with the territory
The circumstances behind him leaving are definitely sketch
He didn’t come in here squeaky clean - doesn’t mean he did anything wrong, or does it mean he’s completely innocent
Nobody on here is hoping it’s true
it could tarnish his reputation for what has been otherwise stellar tenure here, propelling us into the next level of big 10 competitiveness and hopefully elite status
But onjecruvely speaking, his departure, coupled w the curious timing, SL inuendos, quick trip abroad and subsequent rumors are certainly caused for questioning
I’m going to reiterate, nothing is official until it’s proven, and nobody on here hopes that it’s true
But to simply dismiss it because it does not fit the narrative of our fanbase is foolish to say the least
Nobody on here is hoping it’s true
Maybe not so much a coverup as more of a delay. Get to as close to the start of College football as you can, so the news dies quickly. When you have Clemson vs Georgia kicking off, nobody who cares about college football is going to care about a Politi article on an AD. Those who don't care about College football may kick and scream, but nobody cares about them anyway.I hear what you're saying. But the cover up is always worse than the crime. And we aren't in Norman, OK. The local media will not let this go away quietly.

I’d like to think we are all on the same page here, and are hoping that this athletic department reaches elite status, which is where our university deserves to be, especially after decades of futility and scandals out the assWell that just isn’t true
There are certainly a few trolls on here hoping exactly that. In fact that’s exactly why they are here
If something bad happened, There is no cover up because there have been consequences. Pat Hobbs is no longer working for Rutgers. Question is, does the public have the right to know EVERYTHING that happened? If there is an active NDA that has been executed, that can’t be accessed via OPRA, we may never know.I hear what you're saying. But the cover up is always worse than the crime. And we aren't in Norman, OK. The local media will not let this go away quietly.

Short of something criminal, the more time that goes by, the more faint that "bad light" gets.I agree. I don’t want to know because I think I have a right to know. I want to know because I think it will come out eventually and the effort to conceal whatever it is that is contributing to the less-than-warm send off for Hobbs will present Rutgers in a bad light. Fair or not.
Is that the same actor who was the black jack dealer in Vegas Vacation? It is kind of sad to see how with the slightest of evidence, sometimes it's just what someone says on the matter without proof, public figures are accused of things and that is considered part of the game.
Not one shred of evidence was produced , but speculating wrongdoing is defended by many posting here.
As for no one wants the worst, maybe that's true/ maybe if nefarious deeds went on or if any really did, but until valid proof is presented I will believe Hobbs' claim he retired for medical reasons and ask those speculating what real proof are they going by or just following the crowd listening to an unsubstantiated rumor and believing it true .
Some are saying : "wait for it"
I just think it's not nice to accuse someone that has done a good job for Rutgers as it's AD of being a lowlife and he retired because that was going to be exposed and not supplying any more proof than:" I heard it through the grapevine"
My attention span is short. Yes, I'm still posting in this thread, but I will never care about an article that Politi and NJ.com write about. It will be sourced as "according to sources within the Athletics department who would not be named for this story. . . . . .".Maybe not so much a coverup as more of a delay. Get to as close as the start of College football as you can, so the news dies quickly. The one and only Wallace Shawn. Great character actorIs that the same actor who was the black jack dealer in Vegas Vacation?
Good point, especially : "perceived as lying by ommission. "I agree. I don’t want to know because I think I have a right to know. can't say but was one of the cast that made the Princess Bride worth watchingIs that the same actor who was the black jack dealer in Vegas Vacation?
What’s being described is affair with a subordinate who by all accounts wasn’t doing stellar in her position of employment, covering up the subpar performance via adultery & quasi nepotism, then resigning 10 days before the start of football season under the guise of health issues, compounded by lack of press conference & subsequent current trip with his wife (overseas, no less) soon after his health related retirement would be, unfortunately, the textbook definition of a coverup, if said actions prove to be trueWhat's being described isn't a cover-up.
Well, the reason for his dismissal is that it's health related. Nobody said there was a violation of company conduct or a morals clause. So they are kind of covering it up right? What's being described isn't a cover-up.
IF all those things are true (a big if), I still don’t see it as a cover up. A cover up would require that Rutgers as an institution had knowledge of the inappropriate conduct and made efforts to ignore it and/or sweep it under the rug. What’s being described is affair with a subordinate who by all accounts wasn’t doing stellar in her position of employment, covering up the subpar performance via adultery & quasi nepotism, then resigning 10 days before the start of football season under the guise of health issues, compounded by lack of press conference & subsequent current trip with his wife (overseas, no less) soon after his health related retirement would be, unfortunately, the textbook definition of a coverup, if said actions prove to be true

It’s entirely possible that upon being made aware of the supposed behavior, Rutgers took immediate action.
At the end of the day, none of this is known at this time so I’m in the camp of everyone shutting up about it until more info is confirmed…if that ever happens.
We’ve got a football game in 10 days.
in addition it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he resigned from AD position but is/was allowed on backend to just go on LOA from the overall working for RU (which would keep the insurThat covers that one then. Not weird that he left abruptly. Schiano’s behavior is what was odd. And even Pike. Neither one of them seem to want to talk about Hobbs.
but how do you prove a negative? That’s part of the issue for your concern—-it will just loom because you can’t really squash it prior to any actual accusations solidify. And if there’s nothing then the rumors will just linger for a while.I agree. I could care less about what went down - for me it won’t change the fact that Hobbs did a great job as AD during his tenure.
My concern is that we have an opportunity to do great things this year in football and basketball and I hate the idea of any potential distractions down the road. This feels like a loose end - time bomb of sorts where at some point the SL will release an article with more information about the departure. I really hate to be negative on this and hope very much to be wrong. Damn Politi already published an article foreshadowing more to come. It may not even be something that bad and I could see it being framed in a way that’s distracting and reputationally damaging to our program in an untimely way, because that’s just how the Star Ledger tends to roll - anything for clicks. Sigh
