Football Rutgers Football collapses against Kansas State in wild Rate Bowl loss

Agreed. On offense. The game was lost when Kirk went away from what was working in the first half. KSU couldn’t set the edge. We were gashing them off tackle. …..
On D it was more of the same. Bad angles and bad assignment football. LB’s can’t scrape and get lost in coverage. And we fell back into a loose zone that allowed for easy passing angles and horrible run support. Our young DB’s played better than our seasoned vets.
Who are you referring to ? #3 Bo maybe. #5 Sanders ??

Shea had a winning record in 2 seasons at San Jose State before the RU disaster, but that's not exactly Klieman at North Dakota State pre KSU.
True.. 9-2-1 then 6-4-1. Losing every game vs. what is now P5 teams..cept tie with Louisville. His in conf. Wins were solid beatings though.
Parlayed his credentials to become OC and then QB coach next 3 years until blessing us with his HC skills.

I guess when I think of a successful HC elsewhere I think of more sustained success .

Oh well. I'm trying to not get worked up about it. My reactions to Bball game and bowl game result have become just acceptance of what we are as a sports program.

And then there is Lance Leipold. 109-6 at Wisconsin Whitewater.
Four years at Kansas, one winning season, 22-28 (0.440) overall, and 13-23 (0.361) in the Big 12. But some think he is some kind of coaching hero to be worshipped. On the other hand, Greg 2.0 is 26-34 (0.433) overall and 13-32 (0.288) in the B1G. Slightly worse than a guy who lit it up elsewhere. There is no guarantee that what the Indiana HC did this year will be replicated in the P5- will be curious how he does next year. That does not mean you don't try. Would be interesting to see a larger data set of FCS coaches that move up to FBS/P5.

But the question is does Greg deserve the contract he got plus extension..alot of time and money to go 7-6 as ceiling

How do we know 7-6 is his ceiling? That could be a premature conclusion. Leipold was prematurely extended through 2029 in 2022 (that's one year less than Greg at over $5M/year. That's a general problem with ADs. They hand out extensions like Halloween candy for mediocre performance.

Schiano is a good recruiter & program builder who runs a clean program. He is also a very limited game day coach. For example, in the second half he began almost every drive with a run into the line.

The problem was not so much that he began every drive with a run into the line...although that did seem stupid.
The problem is they ran into a brick wall every time. Some blocking and maybe a hole to run through would have been nice.

I'm a Schiano supporter but I don't think he deserved the extension he received
ADs have a tendency now to extend their HCs after a season that was at best called pretty good in the hope it will help recruiting and keep that HC's eye from wondering .
Greg's eyes could wander all he wanted , but I doubt another P-4 program would be looking back .
Schiano is a good fit for what Rutgers needs immediately to improve , but he's not a long term solution when it comes to making Rutgers a top program that will compete for the Big Ten title and a playoff spot.
That is the reason he didn't deserve his contract being extended , what he did was what he was hired to do and he only should have been extended if he turned Rutgers intro a good program, not just the pretty good one he made.
I feel one year rollovers and bonus money based on performance would have been the way to go

Tough to fit a square peg into a round hole when the hole knows what's coming. One of a coach's prime jobs is to put his players in positions to be able to succeed.

Some kind of play action or a screen pass might have worked.

that's on Greg as well as he does not work the ref enough

one thing Kirby does well is let the refs know when he'll tolerate
Turned out I was wrong on that first missed Def Hold/PI call.. ball was well out of bounds so def not PI.. uncatchable.. but these guys were coming up and grabbing our wideouts regularly.. 10-12 yards off the LOS.. that should have been called a couple times early to get them to stop. And surely, it happened on our last possession on 3rd down and no call came.

BUT.. we did get away with a couple too.. not as many since we play off receivers so often.. too often..

Overall we lost due to our lack of intelligence in the 2nd half.. on D and O. On D we had players taking themselves out of plays.. even taking out a pursuing defender when you couldn't reach the ball carrier to make that TD-saving/delaying tackle... Longerbeam had the tackle lined up and maybe a ball-swipe and got his legs taken out. That was just one of many in the tragic comedy of errors.

And on O.. damn.. just call the same offense you called in the first half and stop this inside run on first down BS. Unbelievable.

Sometimes people talk of lack of halftime adjustments but when you are up big.. exactly what kind of adjustments do you make? That's what I would normally offer in this situation re: the offense... BUT.. KState had some success on D when they blitzed late in the first half.. and they kept it up even though it cost them some chunk plays. They kept it up in the second half but, suddenly, we forgot how to punish them for doing it. THAT should have been a second-half adjustment... to reinforce punishing teh blitz.. talk about some screens.. *SOMETHING* !

Very dissatisfying 3 -point loss and cover of point-spread. Like Illinois.. this was our game.

Really ? You can’t be serious or you have been watching a different Coached team than everyone else.
BTW you lost your bet…. Sara blew away the 8 wins you said won’t happen. LOL

I see you are in the total negative mode, stamping your feet and cherry picking parts of posts to refute.
I'll give you that you won the wins bet. Good on Syracuse and their pillow soft ACC schedule and scrub team bowl opponent.

Their quarterback was pretty good.

See you are wearing your rose colored glasses again. If we played Sara on Thursday we would have lost by 2 scores. McCord would have shredded our Swiss Cheese Defense. { which will most likely regress next season}. Sucks they got 10 wins and are trending up. You’ll never admit or acknowledge that Fran Brown is a good coach and would have a field day Coaching against Schiano in a game. Although that bar is not high.
