Football Rutgers Football RB Kyle Monangai to sit out 2024 Rate Bowl

Schiano said all the other seniors are available to play. That is very good and I think is a positive of how the program is run. Have no problem with KM sitting this out. He is one of the major reasons they have had 2 consecutive winning seasons. He got banged up this season and suffered a significant concussion . It’s time for him to get ready for an NFL career.

He's selfish with no respect for his teammates.

Thank you Kyle for your great years and commitment to RU. Get ready for your NFL shot you so richly deserve. Enjoy cheering on your teammates in the Bowl game that without you would not be happening this year. Congratulations and thank you again Kyle. #RLegend

I dunno… I can go either way… if it was a playoff bowl, you best believe he would play to get that exposure. I think most other potential “pro picks” are playing in the playoffs. At least take a few snaps and give it one last burst and then come out to a rousing ovation and call it a day…

But I see he doesn’t want to risk it… and maybe that’s the right “business” decision.

He's more than likely devastated by this .

Just like PSU and other players were devastated when posters called them selfish for opting out and said they wouldn't draft them?

KM is just like every other player who got bashed.
Except now it's a Rutgers player so the backtracking is giving posters whiplash.

Don't you think being in the CFP different than a 7-5 team playing in a bowl? I never bashed any player for making a decision that is best for their future earning potential. On the other hand, going forward in the NIL era, I think it would be wise and fair for the entity paying the NIL to put a stipulation in that there will be a negotiated amount deducted from a player's NIL should them opt out of bowl game, and that opt out amount should be larger for a team in the CFP. Does this seem reasonable for a player who is getting paid to play? Keep in mind, it's negotiable.

Sure add any stipulations you want.

Not talking about CFP and PSU this year.
Talking about all the prior bashing of "opt outs" that occurred every year and how these players shouldn't even be drafted because it's a severe character flaw to quit on their teammates.
It's awful and a sign of the decline of CFB that players are opting out.

Until it's KM. Then everyone understands and it makes sense.
Just funny how quick the flip flopping occurs.

And then people being consistent (like @AdventureHasAName ) are quickly called trolls and @$$holes.

Heard from very reliable sources that Greg advised Kyle to opt out

I was wondering if that was the case.
KM was delaying a decision until the last days so maybe he wasn't 100%
He's not a lock to go high and could use a good combine without gimps.
Combine got Pacheco drafted and just barely
Blake Corum's 27 TDs only got him to 3rd round with his 4.53 40

This wouldn’t surprise me at all. IIRCwe had a player (correct me if I am wrong but I think it was Singleton) got hurt when he was declaring for the nfl but got hurt in that Gator Bowl fiasco and the NCAA denied his request for another year of eligibility. Greg was one unhappy camper over that issue. He might not want to jeopardize Kyle’s career.
