Rutgers Hosting San Diego Transfer PJ Hayes

Oskar wasnt immune from losing his man AND he got taken off the dribble at will. He was lightyears ahead of Gavin on D and he wasnt petrified of contact. The 2nd being critical.
Well I assumed you weren't a fan with the "Noooooooooooo". And why are we still talking about Gavin, he's gone - sayonara. IF we land this kid, hopefully he keeps the defenses honest and not just clog up the middle of the court, because that is where Dylan and Ace will make their money.

Gavin was a frosh playing his first year of college ball. Most of the players on the court were older and stronger than him. It matters.

Hayes will be a super senior. Experienced like Oskar. A better career 3 point shooter. Competition level tends to be less revelant for sharp shooters. If you can make open shots at a lower level you can probably do it a tier up.
There is someone who posted film, the kid can cut and get himself open, which is key.

He's a one year risk

3 years at Black Hills St. University, D2

1 at U of San Diego

It adds more depth and experience in the front court.

JWill, Dylan, JMike, Acuff, Derkack

Ace, Martini, PJ Hayes?, Grant, Dortch

Ogbole, Sommerville

Acuff, Martini and Hayes? will be on their final year, JWill, Derkack and Ogbole have 2 years left., JMike 3 yrs. Still one available for a big.

The classes are more balanced if we can land him and 5 scholarships, 3 seniors, Dylan, Ace, available for Class of 25.

This is the type of kid we are going to get and hope for the best. The better options are out of our price range.

The Noooooo was NickyNBA wanting to give him a guaranteed starting spot.

All of these players other than JWill are untried at this level. You can't make promises. Even if they were proven at P5 level, players grow and regress...can't make promises. Will just come back to haunt you.
Ha, you think Dylan and Ace don’t have all sorts of promises?? It’s the way the game is played in a world of one and done’s, NIL and transfer portal.

Dude for Oakland who was lighting people up from deep in March Madness was a D2 transfer.

Can't understand why anyone would not want this kid

The WCC is a really good conference

Catch and shoot 64% EFG (94th percentile)

That's an amazing number and exactly what he will be asked to do here

Quick release and smooth looking stroke

Sign him up
Listed at 6’6” so a problem for a smaller guard trying to defend him. And if a guy gets in his jock, it’s 4 vs 4 with Dylan and Ace on the floor.😂
Teams might struggle defending all that space.

correction: for players in high-demand, it's the way the game has always been played. only question was, which was the top promise.

Ok how about telling him this:

I can't promise you a starting spot or significant minutes.
However......there is a specific (and important) role on the team next year for elite outside shooting. To create space and draw defenders away from Ace/Dylan.
Ideally Ace/Dylan will have the ball and run the offense mostly. We need a 2nd/3rd option to catch ball rotation passes leading to open shots while the defense is scrambling back out to the 3pt line.

You'll be competing against Acuff, Derkack and Davis for the important role........

Seriously, whoever is hitting the shots and playing good D is gonna get the minutes. Doesn’t matter what was said.

Money is obviously a huge part. But there are lots of other things that recruiters at other programs can point out as negatives. We are a tough sell.

The more I learn about this kid, the more I want him here. Seems like the personality we want. Didn’t make a whole dog and pony show parading around the country for visits. Ours was the only one he took. Entered the portal early - no drama.

Agreed. There really isnt much.

The only negative recruiting I could imagine is "you'll be stuck on the bench. They don't shoot 3s so you'll be useless to them. Their offense is all one on one isolatation. You'll never get the ball."

Hence, my earlier pitch of assuring a transfer they would potentially be the 2nd/3rd option (after Ace or Dylan) and how valued their shooting ability would be.

We've already lost out on Jadon Jones partly because of questions around his role (according to TKR podcast) and competition for minutes with JWill, Acuff, Derkack and Davis.

I may be wrong but I see Jones/Hayes as a completely different role (off ball shooting threat) than the role JWill/Acuff/Derkack/Davis will likely be filling (on ball facilitating the offense when Harper/Ace aren't).

Only one visit doesn’t mean much. Perhaps little interest.

We can promise a recruit we will run a certain style that favors them, and show them how you intend to use them. That's standard.

Completely different scenarios.
He appears he would have the best shooting resume of anyone else on the roster.
Which is the exact role we need to fill.

Assuming JWill, Ace and Dylan are already starting - an easy argument can be made to play 39% 3pt shooter significant minutes over Acuff or Derkack to start the season.
If he can play an ounce of Defense he should be starting over Jwill. Catch and shoot guard better fit for Dylan and Ace

Oh wow ! Lol. Did not know !

I always affiliated Carter as a Raptor fwiw. Wonder if Raptors also retired his number?

Carters 5 years with Nets were terrific averaging approx 23-24 ppg
As you know, I'm a big Nets fans, but I always identify Carter as a Raptor, too. He was fun to watch and is a very likable guy.

Surprisingly, Toronto has not retired his number yet.

INTERESTING TIDBIT: The Raptors and Clippers are the only NBA teams that have not retired any numbers.

He's obviously a very specific skill set player at the B1G level. Catch and shoot 3 point sniper floor spacer

Acuff's 3 point shooting is being slept on bc of him having to force shots on a terrible team last year

Bottom line, this kid is a perfect fit for what we’re looking for — an experienced shooter who can space the floor. From the tape, it looks like he can give us what we THOUGHT we’d be getting from GG.

If the kid can’t see the need/role for a 3 point specialist on this roster…..

Well to be fair, it seems Jadon Jones couldn't see it reportedly.
Or it wasn't communicated well enough from the staff?

I believe, TKR podcast said that part of his reason for not commiting was questions about role.

Doesn't matter if the player (or fans) can see the need/role if the staff sees it differently.

That would be great if Acuff is an outside shooting threat.
Realistically, we need 2. Having one already on the roster would be perfect.

Make sure Acuff or "Transfer outside shooting threat" is on the floor at all times.

Toronto basically ran him out of town for stupid reasons, and there is bad blood on both sides. Glad to see the Nets doing this, he was a great player and is a great guy.
