Rutgers No Longer Leads the Nation

No not yet but it will. One time expenses drive the 40 plus mm in the last report. You also have to adjust for differences in calculations.

why the heck is JMU spending that kind of money???? That's crazy.

They only have two games they even need to take a flight to....

Their 500-member band is in the athletics budget, and they have a lot of debt service for their stadium expansion and Olympic sports facilities showing up there too. But I agree it's dumb to spend that kind of money if you're only getting CAA revenue.

That 16 non-P5 schools have a larger subsidy than the most subsidized P5 school tells anyone with a brain everything they need to know about financing collegiate athletics.

It's expensive. The schools who don't have marquis, money-making programs within their athletic departments will spend, on average, more money out of pocket than those that do.

Or how about the fact that NJIT's Athletics Programs are 91% subsidized.

In terms of Rutgers they only subsidize at about 30% whoch at the end of the day is pretty damn good.

What the heck is Jurich doing at UL? They went from CUSA a decade or so ago to over 100 million in revenue and a decidedly P5 subsidy. They too were getting BE revenue.

No way this last's. These smaller schools in this this, being subsidized upwards of $20,000,000, will fail at some point.

With the tuition that way it is, it is absurd, actually. But I get it, lousy sports, prestige suffers. Spend to grow, only to spend more.

Having a 22,000 seat basketball arena and a premier basketball team cant hurt

When it comes to Athletics subsidy. With a $23MM subsidy, RU ranks #17 among Div 1 universities. RU ranks #1 among the P5, however. The increasing B1G payout is undoubtedly helping us here, and the future should be brighter still.

The actual expenditures by the school were $12.9 million. This is the lowest since at least 2004 (records only go back to 2005). This is a significant improvement from any recent year, and a big step in moving towards becoming more revenue neutral.
