Rutgers vs Rider / Match Thread

Classless Rider asst coach was heckling a woman in the front row. Always nice to beat Rider. It's like beating SHU in basketball. Hate em both.

hope it wasn't our friend Diane (rondiane) she sits right next to the visiting bench. But she isn't the type to be vocal.

PS- if Glasgow's knee continues to be a problem I wonder if a medical RS would be a serious consideration?

I think it may have been, if she sits on the floor near old 118.

I'm curious about his knee injury. He may need to redshirt

Hope Glasgow is ok. Knee is going to be a problem all year it looks like. Sucks that he's undersized a bit as well.

What was the score at 165? How did our guy look?
IMO the Glasgow experiment at 165 lbs. just needs to end. He's just not big enough to wrestle the weight. Two takedowns today that he would normally have he didn't because of the weight discrepancy.

Just forfeit it if you have to, you were too incompetent to recruit a true 165 pounder, so just forfeit it. I fear more harm will come to Glasgow than good as the competition rises. He's a gamer and is going to tell them he wants to go. But the coaches should know better. End this and see if you can garner a medical redshirt.

Maybe I'm biased, but it seemed every single Rider wrestler stalled a lot, even Tropea.
You weren't, the ref didn't make anybody push the action today(us a couple times as well). It was refed like a high school wrestling match.

Yep, it was our friend, lol.. I texted her and she confirmed.. I will let her come on and tell what was going on. Seemed it was the Assistants who were the jerks, not their Head coach.

They're the Temple football of the college wrestling world. Next to no fans, but the ones they do have are among the worst fans you'll ever come across. Always nice to kick their asses.

JVB will be fine and he wrestled exactly the kind of match he needed to win. This will help him move forward. MVB really impressed today as I told him. Before the bout he told me he would get this for me and he kept his word. I told him he needs to keep pushing the pace and he will. It was nice seeing you and your husband today.

A win is a win at this level ..why throw cold water on it ....don’t like it ..don’t go anymore.we won’t miss you

A win is a win? So you think a back flip is warranted beating a backup 2-1 with no takedowns? What a joke

I’m sure his coaches were impressed with that display.

I’ll get out of the thread at this point. For any fan to actually think that performance warranted that celebration is either uneducated or just has scarlet colored glasses to see what they’re watching.

I enjoy kids celebrating wins! I liked Ashnault pumping up the crowd when he PiNNED his guy. Do something on the mat though and at least get a takedown against a backup.

Would love to hear Surianos take on that performance and if he felt the backflip was consistent with the performance on the mat.

No I thought same exact thing. We wrestled like a B10 team today. Aggressive and strong rides. A few of our guys could have won by more but their opponents would not open up.
I liked the way MVB wrestled today. I thought all 10 guys gave great effort. Still looking for more from Colucci and still concerned about 197. 125 I say stay with Metzler and let Aguilar RS.

I loved Glasgow’s effort but I am also concerned. He’s a 157 and not strong enough for 65. I remember it was on here Grello was certified at 165. Id like to see him drop to 165. Go with Scott at 174 and seek a Med for Glasgow so he can get 4 years at 157.

Having been a fan of sports for a long time, and as a person among the world's worst fans (Iowa Sqwawkeyes), I suspect that there were two sides to that story. Outside of Terry Brands, it's pretty rare to see a paid collegiate coach unilaterally begin heckling fans.

The previous Wisconsin Head Coach, a short guy who was a good wrestler, I'm forgetting his name, was quite the yapper with the nearby fans. Mostly funny, but could get nutty.

There really isn't a wrestler alive who would turn down the opportunity that Glasgow has right now... Is he ideal for the weight? No... But he's the best option right now...

I think long term that is what's best for the team.

The best option might be JVB going back to 165 for the benefit of the team, letting Glasgow go at 157 IF he is healthy enough.

and to piggyback on my last comments,, These coaches wouldn't risk Glasgows season just fr one match.. Very obvious he was hurting... But not in danger of serious injury... Crowd showed their appreciation for finishing the match...

JVB wouldn't be any better at 165... It might be better for Glasgows development down the road.. But flipping them doesn't make the team any better now

Glasgow I thought was the aggressor and really could have won this match.
They need to figure out what is going with his knee.It looks quite serious and we have not hit the big ten schedule yet.I do not see him making it through without been healthy. The kid is quite talented but with a serious knee injury it is only going to get worse.

Hopefully with a team doctor or orthopedic can pinpoint the problem.

I do not think Glasgow is healthy enough to go 157.The knee will still be an issue regardless of the flip.Get the kid to a specialist and figure out the main issue with the knee.Fighting through the injury will not help.I think a better diagnosis will help the coaches make a better decision moving forward.

Glasgow showed a lot of heart in finishing the match. That would have been a 6 point swing. As we hit the tougher part of our schedule, this is going to be an ongoing problem if they don't fix whatever is wrong.

JVB was almost All American last year at 165. Obviously he can handle that weight class. For the good of the team, and to maximize team scoring, that might be the best option. Just like Bo Nickal going to 184, letting Hall go 174, and Shakur go to 197. Sometimes the team benefit should outweigh the individual preference. BUT IF Glasgow is seriously injured, which Goodale seemed to disagree with in the presser, than it doesn't matter. Just put Donner in, and take the lumps.
It's too bad Willie Scott couldn't make 165, lol. Coach G did say Grello is injured, that stinks.

Abro… I luv ya... But damn you can be a fountain of misinformation!! JVB was 157 last year Lewis was 165!!

LOL, I stand corrected. Let JVB STAY at 157, he showed he's All American at that weight class !! I'm not even going to edit my post. Standing tall for all the arrows to hit me, ! lol.

And I won't even criticize Richie Lewis for not going down to 157.

Based on my observation he looked injured.Except Goddale is a Doctor and knows something he is not sharing with us.That knee has not looked right from the last couple of matches.

Is Donner cleared to wrestle on the team? Scott would would fit in nicely if he can make 165.

Wonder which wrestlers go to Midlands...Goodale said our big 3 of Ashnault, Suriano and Gravina won't be going, but I could see JVB, Grello, Correnti and Collucci making it out there to boost their RPI chances. If Aguilar kills it at 125 unattached I could see the RS coming off in B1G season after New Years.

I still think red-shirting Aguilar this season would be best. One full wrestling year will help him grow stronger and better.

Sounds like from the presser that if Aguilar does well at Midlands (and/or Wilkes) he might have the RS pulled. I guess with this being Ashnualts last year, the time to strike for a top 10 finish is this year. Just don't know if Aguilar is a potential NCAA qualifier if they pull his redshirt. And if he isn't, then it was a waste to pull it, imo.

PS- those were very encouraging wins today by Mike Van Brill, Willie Scott, Matt Corentti and Chris Colucci ! mostly toss ups.

Several things. We will have 10 guys going to Midlands, some unattached and several RU guys. We have mostly backup and redshirts going to Wilkes next weekend. Agulair goes to Midlands. We know what is the matter with Glasgows knee but not for me to divulge his medical condition.

Will Gravina & Glasgow be part of the 10?

Wow. Van Brill does nothing all match, no take downs, wins by riding point and has the energy after match to take a bow and do a back flip.

Pish69 you sound as if you wrestled in college. If so, I am sure you remember how brutal practices were. This kids still bust their butts and deserve to celebrated. Rutgers is not like Penn State where most kids won multiple state titles. More that half of the kids who wrestled for Rutgers today never won a state title. Let the kids enjoy themselves. It is sad that an adult takes time to criticize a college student who is trying his best.

So Glasgow's knee has a "matter" and the coach's feel it's best for his development to wrestle him up a weigh class against bigger guy's and not redshirt him? Something doesn't sound right here. Sounds more like someone screwed up on recruiting the 165 lb. weight class. I guess the coaches feel that's best, however he's one of our future set pieces. To risk him for a screw up just doesn't sound like a smart move.
